Name.com's deceitful way of renewing Free Whois Privacy

I could not get the ICANN mandated Free Whois Privacy at @name.com. Every time I click renew Whois Privacy, their Advanced Security product gets added on the cart despite disabling it on the Account Setting page.

Namecheap can do this so easily for their users, you can renew even up to 9 years with zero renewal fees.

Name.com responded to my inquiry through email.

Hello,
Thank you so much for contacting us at Name.com, I am sorry to hear of the inconvenience that you are experiencing.

You can use our promo code privacyplease (one word, lowercase) to get one year of advanced security for free.

This likely happened because even if you disable advanced security, it can still auto-renew if you do not turn off the auto renew function. Here are some instructions on how to use the bulk settings to disable the advanced security autorenewal for all of your domains.

  1. Please follow this pathway: ACCOUNT >> MY DOMAINS

  2. Click the orange Bulk Tools button on the left side

  3. Select More Bulk Actions

  4. Select Manage Whois Privacy Automatic Renewal

  5. Click either Select ALL domains or manually select the desired domains

  6. Select Disable Whois Auto Renew
This should allow you to disable the automatic renewal for this product. Unfortunately name.com is not authorized to make account changes so you would have to manage these settings yourself.

Then you can also disable automatic Whois Privacy in your account to prevent it from being added to future domains that you might purchase.
Disabling Advanced Security from being auto-added to cart

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns and we will be happy to help!

Best Regards,

Mai
