Hi,
I've just seen that one of my domains is pending sale for $5,988. I obviously didn't receive any email as it isn't sold yet.

The domain is registered on Godaddy, and when I go to my products on Godaddy, and looking at the settings of specific domains, it works and I see it, but when going to the domain that is pending sale, it gives me an error.
What does that mean? someone put the domain on his cart and didn't pay yet? so why I can't manage the domain on my godaddy account?

Appreciate the help,
thank you.

Afaik, Afternic pendingsale can mean anything - domain added to shopping cart somewhere and offline payment method selected, or an extra verification requested for online CC payment, or paypal payment with echeck funding (U.S. based option mostly) needs to be cleared, etc, etc, etc. Sometimes it would be finished sale (up to ~1 week), sometimes not...

Afternic "locks" GD-regged domains on GD if pendingsale. Last time I saw this, domain became invisible @ my GD account - there was no way to manage it or even see it. Your case must be similar - you at least see it, but cannot manage. Maybe they upgraded something... Should the sale be unsuccessful - then the domain should become visible and manageable again in a few days. Should the sale come through - then, in case of instant transfer, they will transfer it to the buyer even though it is currently invisble/unmanageable from sellers end. I've experienced both scenarios.

Unsure what would happen if the domain does not have fast transfer enabled - their system may ask to unlock or to push the domain, but you may be unable to. Interesting scenario, never thought about it before.

Crossing fingers now :) Congratulations Yair, a good potential sale in pandemic time!

Here is how Afternic explained it in a mail to me a while back

Thank you for reaching out to us for assistance.

Domains go into a "pending sale" status when the purchase process was started at one of our reseller partner sites, but hasn't yet been completed. This could mean that the domains were added to a shopping cart but haven't been checked out yet, or that the order was completed, the registrar is just verifying that the payment is legitimate. If the order isn't verified one way or the other within 7 days, we'll automatically remove the "pending sale" hold. To save you time, we'll only send out email notification about a sale when one has actually been completed/verified and the domain is safe to deliver.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Kind Regards,
Josh
Afternic Support

do you know if pendingsale status would remove name specificaly from gd auctions?

I recently had some pendsale names that were pending for weeks! I am starting to fear this what seems to be heavy duty bug (or very poor design at best) is going to be taking off my names off gd auctions, only to end up going nowhere.. as was the case with all pending sales so far for me.

i do not know how much longer some of these things would remain in this status had I not emailed suport to remove it. which they did.... if this keeps up, im just going altogether to remove all my names from afternic... as my main sale venues are sedo and gd anyway

Hi Tony, thank you so much for the explanation!
I really hope it'll be a sale. but only time will tell.

from what i heard so far people say about pending sale status rarely results in a sale. in similar way what i read so far and my experience, most of those price requests emails we get from afternic also rarely result in sales.

if your name is pendingsale too long, i suggest you contact support to remove this status. I had some of them in this status for weeks! then I understood during this time the names are taken offmarket for other potential buyers. which is basically a catastrophic system. which shuld be fixed.

Best guess: No. Better to do it yourself. To avoid potential duplicate sale. I do not use auctions separately for afternic listings of GD regged domains, but I do use godaddy premium listings for these. As a side effect, auctions also show the domains, but from premium listings channel. This is complicated, yeah, but there were bugs with afternic listings disappearing from gd search results (temporary) - and premium listings were not affected. In this scenario (afternic listing + godaddy premium listing), afternic pendingsale lock did not remove my premium listing. So, if I see afternic pendingsale for gd-regged domain - I always have to login to gd and manually remove the premium listing...

Yeah. I complained frequently about this issue. It seems it was finally fixed in the end of 2019, but with godaddy we never know for sure... At least, my last failed afternic pendingsale was returned to manageable state at gd after ~3 days or so.

seriously guys, unless you have bins set, and on certain tlds only, afternic is not a hot sale venue.

if your a makeoffer person like me, make sure you list on gd auctions first... then sedo.. and basicaly forget afternic. i know you can list on gd through afternic, but the sale process is much better on gd, and u get afternic sale process if u list on gd thorugh afternic.. plus u get ability to push to 7 days if u list gd first... and a couple more extra options if u list on gd first.

i know afternic makes alot of sales for many people. u will notice in 90% cases they all have bin prices set. and often limited to .com.

for me, not much action on afternic at all.. except for some price requests going nowhere and pendingsales i had to call to cancel.

i always see afternic as this market stuck in parellel universe that's like 20 years older than everyone else.... a universe where updates do not happen.. nothing ever changes.. and problems do not get fixed. these are the vibes i get each time i login there.. and my experience to basically attest to it.

if its at godaddy, youll get a follow up email that they are moving the domain. Be patient and congratulations! :)

that is FAR from being a guarantee. and in fact, odds are pendingsale status results in no sale, for most people, in most cases. from what I read and experienced myself.

the ony thing it does result in is having your domain blocked from view from other potential buyers during that time.

:)

all im saying is if it is a sale, godaddy sends a followup email to let you know if its at godaddy.

So on Jan 7th I get this email from AN "Great news, we have successfully verified the payment of $2,XXX.00 for xxxxxxx.com". Today on Jan 13th I receive an email that says "We have completed the transfer of xxxxxxx.com". So far so good.

But then things get funny. When I login to my registrar site I can still see the domain there. So I go to my AN dashboard and check the transfer status. Now it says "Pending Sale - The sale of xxxxxxx.com is pending buyer payment approval.....

Wow..so the buyer has still not paid and I thought AN already had the payment secured when it sent me the "Great news, we have successfully verified the payment of ....." BS.

I have made several sales at AN before and never had this kind of weird work-flow.
Red flags all over. This sale is definitely not happening

Update - Fortunately I got paid in the next several days after the new owner transferred the domain to GD.
Note that sav does not have a fast transfer feature so minimum 5 days of transfer time is mandatory.

Funny thing is the domain still shows at my sav.com account although a whois query says it is at GD. I see they are all over the forum but hardly catching up with issues.
