No justification for this at all, especially considering the rhetoric of the CCP and their involvement in every vital industry. When push comes to shove, it will be lights out in the US. This was snuck in the bill halting the Keystone Pipeline.

I have no opinion about the pipeline. That's between the US and Canada. Lots of money involved, so whatever happens is likely to be crooked. And reliance on fossil fuels needs to be reduced.

It would be pretty amusing to see a trade war between the US and Canada, but extremism is on the rise and anything is possible. Politicians love tit for tat - they are fairly primitive that way.

When I had trouble getting into Canada to visit family, my sister brought the issue up with her local representative. And she responded, "the Americans do the same thing to us!" That's how these people think.

IMO it would be futile for Canada (and Trudeau) to engage in the same geopolitical tactics that Trump levied on China (re: tariffs). Our economy would take a serious hit and tank for no common gain. The Alberta government has been bending over to foreign interests and long since sold their one-horse farm down the river. Of course there are BIG bucks involved, and jobs on the line, but if ever it was right to divert attention to the environment and diversify the economy, now is the time.

Your government is just as filled with crooks as any. For all the natural beauty in British Columbia, their politicians are neck deep in corruption and bribes. It would be nice to see Canada stand up to the US, rather than be the obedient minion. They did during the Vietnam War. But those days are long gone. Canada, the UK, Australia/NZ and even Japan stand by to take orders these days. Really needs to change, or you'll sink with the ship.
