Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Word of advice,

Be careful with what domains you list at Sedo for parking. Especially in less 'established' TLDs.

I have a mixed portfolio (thousands of coms but also of other tld's) and lately I've been buying a lot of .xyz, and decided to list the whole portfolio there in a test and to give parking a try (more of a test to see what's what). They've been selling so it's good.

Now just a few days later after also parking for ads revenue, I received email from Sedo that our entire account is banned at parking. (unnatural traffic, 3 sites reported out of 13K)

I'm not really upset of losing the parking revenue (dont' care about that) but I'd be glad to still be able to continue using the sales landers. However that doesn't seem to work anymore, which is intriguing.

I understand thoughnwhy Sedo is doing this. It's pretty common in the ads industry, unfortunately; and Google Ads does the same for example; even though at many times there are collateral victims but anyway. Probably they have even been reported by their upstream ads network instead, and passed on to Sedo.

I think the right option would however be, to switch to a sales lander page automatically and continue to allow landers for domain sales instead. Or at least for the others 99.99% in portfolio which don't have an issue(13K names today and yes, 3 bad apples bought by accident).

Is there an option for that that I'm unaware of?

I could not prevent this happening as I have no clue which out of 13K names is getting what traffic like that. Be careful as it might happen to you.

Anyway, I've sent Sedo an email of being sorry for the situation, but not requesting any review.

I'm happy to sell domains since this is what I do, not for parking (that's pennies).

Apart for warning NP readers to not get into this mistake, I posted here more in the idea that perhaps Sedo would read this. I guess they earn more if they allowed parking for sales only (no ads shown) instead of simply 404-ing all landers in such a situation.

Update:

You can still use the sales landers at Sedo even if blocked from parking, by redirecting to their search page for the domain. As in:

sedo.com/search/details/?partnerid={yourpartnerid}&domain={yourdomain}

This is also the recommended way by Sedo, to promote your sales pages via external links.

Edit: I'm not using it currently but it might be good to have for some users.

I’m trying to sell a domain through Sedo but it looks like they’re on holiday.
I want to use their “external transfer service”, sent them an email since Friday but still no reply and the transaction is not created yet.
Tried calling them but the answering machine is saying that they are on holiday - both US and German support numbers.
Little bit puzzled - isn’t the holiday season over since like 2 weeks ago?
@Sedo - can you please help?

Hi

Yes I can confirm that yesterday 18th Jan 2021, was indeed a public holiday in the US and the LLC office was closed, we are sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused. The American office is also 6 hours behind the German office where we work 9am until 5pm so it was likely if you called Sedo Germany after the US office that we had already closed for business that day. To request an external transfer service for the sale/purchase of a domain, you need to email [email protected] with the subject "External Transfer Request". You mentioned you have sent an email, I can follow this up for you, can you let me know the domain name in question. You can send a PM here and I will follow it up for you.

All the best Chris

@Sedo can you see how many people are watching your names without using a lander?

Hi Griff,

You are only able to see if there are any uniques in your Sedo account (A unique visitor occurs when a parked domain name is typed into a browser by a user or the user comes to the site via a link in search engine results.) You see that if the domain is parked with Sedo, it does not need the sale lander active. Or if the domain is listed as Make Offer, you can see the offer views recorded if anyone clicks on the listing on our marketplace but doesnt continue to make an offer. However, if the domain is not parked or listed as Make Offer it is not possible to monitor these stats within your Sedo account, a watcher is not recorded.

All the best
Chris

Hi Chris, question:

If I have a domain using SEDO nameservers with a BIN price set, but I enabled 'accept offers' and an offer comes in that is accepted, the commission is still set at 10%? I'd expect so but just making sure.

Thanks

Another bug, when using bulk edit for assigning landing page style on more than one domain, it's not registering. The landing pages are still displaying the default 'Auto select' view instead of what was newly assigned.

@Sedo
A small suggestion,
Please ask the tech guys to add language selection option in account setting area.
Do not change language automatically according to
web browsers
every time when logged.

Updates,
checked again and found that you already had this option but it did not work properly,

It seems that the setting here does not work, overrided by web browsers language detection,

@Sedo

When a domain is pending ownership verification,
You can edit registrar, but not price.
It is not convenient,
bad user experience.

Maybe your tech guys can fix it?

Hi Tomcarl,

Thanks for your comment.

Yes your correct, the domain is technically listed as Buy Now, so if it is parked and listed as Buy Now or Best Offer and sells directly on our marketplace, then the commission fee is 10% of the sales price.

With regards to your comments about the landing page style in bulk, I will ask our tech team to look into this further to investigate. In the meantime, if you are having issues, I would recommend, bulk changing the domains back to the normal parking template, allowing 15 minutes for the technical change to take place, then bulk changing the layout back to the sales lander layout template that you want and allowing 15 minutes. Doing this resets the process. If you have any further issues then we would appreciate if you email us from the email address registered with your Sedo account to [email protected] so that we can take a look at the account and see what the issue might be.

All the best Chris

I have listed 71 domains in Sedo over 48 hours ago.
66 domains in pending verification now. All domains using Sedo name server.
Contacted support after 3 hours listed but have not reply yet.

Change your name servers to NS1.SEDOPARKING.COM and NS2.SEDOPARKING.COM before attempting to add the domains to Sedo. That way, the verification is instantaneous. Always works for me. If you add the domains to Sedo, and then go and change the name servers, it takes a lot of time like you are experiencing currently.

You can delete the names pending verification. Change name servers at your registrar and add again. You should be through is my guess.

@Sedo

Is there a sales lander where both the BIN price is mentioned and make offer is also enabled? In the current scenario, it seems that I have to choose between the two.

For example > superapps.net
The lander here has a BIN option. But I would like visitors to make offer here as well if possible.

Thank you. But I think Sedo will check the domain. Check one time per hour or the same is a good idea

...unnatural traffic, 3 sites reported out of 13K...

It sounds like the issue may have been referral traffic ending up on revenue generating parking pages.

Perhaps you purchased some old names with existing 'unnatural traffic'?

You can ask them to have the ads turned-off, although that option might be too late now given what has happened.

Hope you get it sorted out. Good luck.

Exactly. Someone has probably forgot bots running on domains they don't own anymore. Or they are part of a "network" that does that... who knows.

Anyway, not a problem. I don't plan to monetize via parking anyway, was more of a test for now. So I don't intend to re-apply or use a different parking monetizing solution.

It won't work if the domains were already added by the previous owners. The best way to go about it is to add the text record for verification before changing the nameserver. The cname record works too.

Now it does not show my domain is pending verification anymore. But I do not see my domain in my portfolio, and I can't list them again. Sedo shows "This domain name is already listed in your account!" don't know what happening.

Just tried your method with 3 domains. 1 of them appear in my portfolio, 2 stuck with verifying.

I try to use Sedo. But nothing good Sedo show to me!

BAD

These same CHECK_FALLBACK_TOO(US) errors appear in the Domain Management dashboard for years already. I've reported them like 5 times during the past years, but stopped reporting, because nothing really changed.

Hi,

Yes if you activate Buy Now or Best Offer in your Sedo account under 'My Account and then Account Settings', you will see a page which looks like this:

All the best
Chris
