See EU domain name for the first time

Don't let it appear as if Europe is "nothing" or ".eu" for that matter.
There do exist interesting websites at doteu. (although lots of citizens not always register the doteu, but prefer the extention their own country). But Europe gets more and more important. Even the Brexit is -how strange this may seem-, making the European Union more important in the world. In the meantime on our Televidion-screen, since a couple of years there's "EURONEWS" a TV-channel "in fact on 2 channels" in english and dubbed or subtitled in French or commented in French. A bit similar to CNN. We can't see here Fox News-channel.
These Euronews-TV-channels IMO make the European Union much more visible for the population of the EU.

But take a look to the most important/wellknown website about European politics is http://politico.eu so politico.eu (it has several newsletters), and is followed by lots of politicians who are interested in the affairs of Europe or better "the European Union".

And interesting site is also the site from the Greek Economy professor Yanis Varoufakis (former Greek minister of fianncial affairs) who teached in England, Belgium and Australia (I think at School of Economics or some universities). http://yanisvaroufakis.eu : If this doesn't lead you to his website. Put yanis varoufakis or yanisvaroufakis.eu in google and look for the doteu-site in the "cache". It's the personal blog of Yanis Varoufakis (or redirects to it).
Yanis Varoufakis is also known as "the rock star" of Greek (and European) politics.(Wikipedia says he is Greek-Australian). He's known for his good/sexy looks, and his motorbike (he's occupied though, cause he's married :xf.grin: ). Anyhow with his "looks" and dressingmanners, he was a breath of fresh air when we saw him on television. back in the days.
He was and is a very left wing (near to communism) politician (although he supported the umbrellamovement in Hong Kong, and doesn't love Putin very much. His viewpoint is more soialistic then communistic. He also if for a basic income for everybode..
in the time of the problems with "Greece" and the risk because of debts of a GREXIT around 2014-2016. When Syriza (the communist party) of Greece won the elections in Greece, Yanis Varoufakis ( went on his motorbike and in leather jacket to the meetings in Brussels where he had to attend to as minister of Finance from Greece 2015 on (he even secretely recorded a specific important meeting at the EU). However after discussion with his prime minister they differred from opinion on European matters and later, Yanis Varoufakis quit from the party Syriza. (Syriza is now not the leading party from Greece, and also not in a coalition in the current government). (And going back some years : he voted "remain" in the referendum in Gr.Br.)

When you look in Google, click on "images" and you'll see how he looks, and you also should see a pic of the historic handshake with Jeroen Dijsselbloem from the Netherlands a decade ago. (They differred from opinion, although Jeroen Dijsselbloems is also a left winger, but a socialist).

Recently (quote from his Wikipedia-page : Progressive International and RE-election)
Progressive International[edit]
On 20 August 2018, in an on-stage book festival interview in Edinburgh, Varoufakis pressed Jeremy Corbyn, head of the British Labour Party, to "be a bit more ambitious" and become involved in the international progressive movement, saying "We need a progressive international".[54][55] On 13 September, Varoufakis penned an op-ed piece in The Guardian about the need for an international progressive movement,[56] alongside a similar piece by fellow progressive U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.[57] On 26 October in Rome, Varoufakis announced the Progressive International,[58] which was described as a "common blueprint for an International New Deal, a progressive New Bretton Woods". The organization officially launched on 30 November in Sanders' home town of Burlington, Vermont.[5][6]

Re-election[edit]
On 7 July 2019, his party MeRA25 passed the threshold necessary to enter the Greek parliament and Varoufakis was re-elected an MP. (addendum from me : in GREECE)
Yanis Varoufakis is still "busy with" Greek and European politics and blogs about it and isn't sitting on his chair doing nothing. He has great activism, and after he gave lessons again in economics again in England, within a period that he several participated in debates around the EU, England, economics, etc.... he re-enterred parliament, with his new movemement/party that exist since 2018.

ON his website http://yanisvaroufakis.eu you will find a list you can change with several topics. Click and search for "english" to see more then 1.600 englishwrittten entries from him on his blog (see the right of the page you can choose, I think with an arrow facing upwards) from today going back to 2010.

When you go to Eurid.eu,(where you can check the whoisses) the registry of dot-eu, and you enter yanisvaroufakis.eu, you'll get to a page with information about the website. It's as individual that he registerred the domainname, and in such case with doteu you can see the emailaddress of that person. If you look now, you'll see that in the last 12 months this whoispage is visited more then 5.000 times. (that is not the amount of views the site has, it's the amount of checkers of the whois at Eurid to find his emailaddress or other reasons).

This last thing is very strange, because outside of Europe : registrars don't publish for individuals their emailaddress in the whois and opposite to that Europe (Eurid) publishes for .eu for individuals their emailaddress in despite the GDPR-regulations (privacy regulations). Probably somewhere in the States several registrars don't publish the emailaddress of anybody living in Europe (and yes also still the UK) under nearly all extentions since the GDPR exists (since 2 years or so).

HOW STRANGE IS THAT LAST THING FOR DOMAINERS or other interestedparties/persons in whois of doteus AND other extentions. SURELY SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE. It's ridiculous that for doteu, Eurid publishes emailaddresses, and so-called because of the GDPR (privacylaws in Europe since 2 years or so) Europeans don't get from most registrars based in the US for nearly all extentions their emailaddress published.
The last thing about this hasn't been told yet I think.....

I can't believe the pettiness behind the idea of suspension of the domain! EU names can be held by EU citizens living outside the EEA or by Non-EEA citizens residing in the EU.

Leave.eu as an organisation can transfer ownership of its domain to an Irish-resident person/entity, and technically rent it off them.

EUrid appears to be breaking its own rules/ breaching EU law.

Brexit has happened, and certain people/entities labelling Brexit as evil just need to let it go!
