Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Potential new strains were discussed early on in this thread...it has taken a little longer than I expected but now significant variants are popping up. The nature of a virus is to survive and constant mutation is part of that process. So far, we have been lucky in that the new strains have not been proven to be more deadly. Odds are, that will change with time.

New Coronavirus Strain Discovered In South Africa, More Severe Than Previous Variants

According to reports, the new strain of the COVID-19 virus named '501.V2 Variant' is said to be more severe as it contains a higher viral load.

Study estimates US Covid-19 infections may be 4 times higher than reported

Covid-19 infections in the United States may have been four times higher than the number of cases reported, with 1 in 7 US residents infected by mid-November, according to a new study.

As of November 15, about 10.8 million reported cases of Covid-19 were reported to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but the study suggests the actual number of infections was closer to 46.9 million.

The study also suggests that approximately 35% of Covid-19 deaths may not be reported.

Of course we hear about the car accidents that have been misreported as being covid cases.

In my world, there are 3 men that I play golf with on a regular basis. The stepmother of one died at the end of January last and although we knew it was covid related, it was not reported as such. The mother of one of the other golfers died about 6 months ago and it was not reported as being covid related although it was. The final golfers mother just died on Christmas Eve...this is the only one that was correctly reported as being covid related (now several members of that family have tested positive).

We will never know the actual numbers and nothing would surprise me either way, whether skewed high or low.

COVID conspiracy theorists mistake guitar pedal diagram for 5G chip

45faeda4dfbe45dac472ac06845ce28d

A “confidential” document being shared online that seeks to uncover an evil plot at the heart of the world’s search for a coronavirus vaccine doesn’t only distort the truth, it will also add some sick distortion if you plug an electric guitar into it.

That’s because the diagram isn’t for some hi-tech mind control chip being surreptitiously implanted in people lucky enough to get vaccinated against COVID-19: It’s for a popular Boss brand guitar pedal.

With all the people who are against or holding off on agreeing to a covid vaccine, my biggest concern is that covid-19 will keep changing because there's lots who remain open to catching it, and it mutates into something maybe much more deadly, &/or much more damaging to the health of those who survive. All while still easy to pass on. Then we could have problems that make our current ones seem small by comparison.

On something else, I gave a nurse a ride the other week to get her 1st covid shot. She was feeling a bit off before getting it, but got it anyway. A couple days later after showing covid symptoms, she tested positive. She's fine now, even though having covid at the time she was shot up.

For those wondering, I self isolated just in case I caught it from her.

Immunological memory to SARS-CoV-2 assessed for up to 8 months after infection

Abstract
Understanding immune memory to SARS-CoV-2 is critical for improving diagnostics and vaccines, and for assessing the likely future course of the COVID-19 pandemic. We analyzed multiple compartments of circulating immune memory to SARS-CoV-2 in 254 samples from 188 COVID-19 cases, including 43 samples at ≥ 6 months post-infection. IgG to the Spike protein was relatively stable over 6+ months. Spike-specific memory B cells were more abundant at 6 months than at 1 month post symptom onset. SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells declined with a half-life of 3-5 months. By studying antibody, memory B cell, CD4+ T cell, and CD8+ T cell memory to SARS-CoV-2 in an integrated manner, we observed that each component of SARS-CoV-2 immune memory exhibited distinct kinetics

Good news!

Arthritis drugs could help save lives of Covid patients, research finds

Two drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis could help to save the lives of one in 12 intensive care patients with severe Covid, researchers have found.

The NHS will begin using tocilizumab to treat coronavirus patients from Friday, health officials said after results from about 800 patients confirmed the drug brings benefits, potentially cutting the relative risk of death by 24%.

Another arthritis drug, sarilumab, appears to do the same, not only saving lives but cutting the length of time patients spent in intensive care.

Three-day lockdown imposed on Greater Brisbane [Australia] to stop spread of UK COVID strain

upload_2021-1-8_12-31-53.png

More than 2 million residents across Greater Brisbane will be placed into lockdown in a bid to stop the spread of the highly-infectious United Kingdom strain of the virus.

The tough and sudden measures have been brought in to try and contain a potential catastrophic outbreak of a highly contagious strain of COVID-19, which escaped hotel quarantine in the city. It comes after a cleaner at a quarantine hotel in Brisbane tested positive yesterday to the mutant strain and was in the community for five days.

HOPEFULY we can keep this strain out of our community for the next couple of months until we get our at-risk community vaccinated. At this stage the Australian Government is planning on vaccination program starting in late February.

COVID-19 patients with NO symptoms are responsible for more than HALF of the spread of coronavirus, CDC study finds

Results showed 59% of all spread came from asymptomatic patients with 35% from presymptomtic people and 24% from those who never have signs of illness

When the model was shifted to assuming patients were most contagious on day four, researchers found 67% of all spread was asymptomatic

Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel says vaccine likely to protect from Covid-19 infection for ‘couple of years’

Moderna’s COVID-19 mRNA vaccine is likely to offer protection of up to a couple of years, its chief executive said on Thursday, even though more data is still needed to make a definitive assessment. The US biotech company, which stunned the world last year by coming up with a vaccine against the disease caused by the new coronavirus in just a few weeks, received approval for its shot from the European Commission on Wednesday.

Given vaccines development and pharmacovigilance usually requires years, the protection duration of COVID-19 shots is a lingering question for scientists and regulators. “The nightmare scenario that was described in the media in the spring with a vaccine only working a month or two is, I think, out of the window,” Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said at an event organised by financial services group Oddo BHF.

Grim day as US, UK and Germany all see record high COVID-related deaths

The United Kingdom, Germany and the United States have all recorded their highest daily death tolls from the coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday the UK recorded 1,325 deaths of people who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 28 days, eclipsing the previous record of 1,224 that occurred on April 21 last year during the first peak of the pandemic. "We are declaring a major incident because the threat this virus poses to our city is at crisis point," Mayor Sadiq Khan said. The designation of a "major incident" in the UK is usually reserved for terror attacks or grave accidents, notably those likely to involve "serious harm, damage, disruption or risk to human life or welfare, essential services, the environment or national security".

If the UK figures look grim they pale in comparison to the United States which topped 4,000 daily deaths from the coronavirus for the first time, breaking a record set just one day earlier.

Also on Friday, Germany reported a record 1,188 daily COVID-19 deaths, only days after further tightening a national lockdown amid fears that a more transmissible variant of the coronavirus may put additional strain on struggling hospitals.

WHO tells rich countries: stop cutting the vaccines queue

GENEVA (Reuters) - The head of the World Health Organization said on Friday there is a “clear problem” that low- and middle-income countries are not yet receiving supplies of COVID-19 vaccines and urged countries to stop striking bilateral deals with manufacturers.

Covid-19: 'Act like you've got the virus', government urges

People in England are being told to "act like you've got" Covid as part of a government advertising campaign aimed at tackling the rise in infections.

Boris Johnson said the public should "stay at home" and not get complacent.

On Friday 1,325 deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test were recorded in the UK - the highest daily figure yet - along with 68,053 new cases.

Government sources say there is likely to be more focus from police on enforcing rather than explaining rules.

"With over 1,000 people dying yesterday it's more important than ever everyone sticks to rules," a source told the BBC.

Are Covid patients getting younger?

There are more people of all ages in hospital with Covid now than in the first wave last spring - that includes the young and old.

Infections have been highest in teenagers, students and people in their 20s and 30s in recent months. A small percentage of people from these age groups inevitably end up in hospital needing treatment.

But the overall pattern of those at risk of becoming seriously ill or dying has not changed significantly.

The older someone is, the greater their risk from Covid-19 - particularly over the age of 65.

For people under 40 who are infected, their risk of death is 0.1%. This rises to more than 5% for people over 80, according to Imperial College London research on the first wave.

IVERMECTIN, as of now, is not officially recommended but it looks as though it is being looked at by several agencies around the globe. A form of it might be developed that is effective...might be part of a cocktail of drugs used down the road. Several studies conclude in March 2021 and some information is below.

An in vitro study of ivermectin in SARS-CoV-2 in Australia showed a significant reduction of viral load in infected cells. Subsequently, a descriptive study of 704 critical patients with COVID-19 showed a reduction in mortality, hospitalization, and intensive care unit length-of-stay in those patients who received the drug. Unfortunately, this study was withdrawn by its authors, leaving more questions than answers.
