The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I always check companies on LinkedIn to answer your question why did i reg it.

First off, congrats on the sale!! Great sale for a VC 😁

My question is this (I am just trying to learn): So you can register a term that is in a company name, but not the exact company name?

If there was a company called specifically 'D9' then would that term have been protected and something that probably should not have been regged because of a possible violation?

I am not throwing cold water on your sale just trying to learn.

For example. I often come across companies using the term 'A Plus'
A Plus Computing
A Plus Powerwashing
A Plus Insurace

So, 'A Plus' would probably be a good domain term...maybe in any extension.

But. What if there is a company called just 'A Plus'? Then, probably avoid this term?

Everyone refers to .COM as king.

Good afternoon.

Not strictly true. I'd never heard it called that until I was a good six months into domaining. It certainly would not be known as that in the outside world...as far as I can see. You may lose sales if there are people who want to buy you domain names. You have.... gooddomainnameexample in king. What may be seen is this.... gooddomainnameexample.KING.

Still, what do I know. I'm a Newbie lol.

Referring to the King is done to avoid being indexing into search. I'm seeing this reference since 2017.

Thank you for your response. Please take it in the spirit in which it was offered. It was not criticism, it was said as a cautionary tale. I know why it is referred to as 'king' and it is said by many, not all people within the domaining community. This is just the end of my 2nd year and take it from me there is so much to learn. The global pandemic changed many things too.

There will be many hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people becoming domainers in the not too distant future and I can assure you that they may not know what 'king' refers to. These newbies will be your customers so maybe it is better to give them more reasons to buy your names. If they don't understand what you are referring to they might not ask for clarification but will just move on to something or someone who makes things clearer for them.

Just another point of view. Not necessarily right or wrong but another opinion can help sometimes.

Reddstagg

@Reddstagg Thank you for clearing that up for us newbies. There wasn't exactly a handbook or course one takes to become a domainer. I just learn new things here every day.

I'm not quite sure how to respond to that statement lol. Maybe you are just being cheeky. Everything is for sale...apart from my left kidney...bit dodgy.

All I did was to add their nameservers, and I think I applied for Sedo MLS.
Thanks....
I think not all extension sedo accept for their MLS..EXAMPLE -----.co.uk

Sometimes banks have limited budget for a project. When I sold one///bank dot eu to a bank, their maximum budget was $1000 (BIN was $1500).

I agree, even their employees don't really earn high salaries.

You are correct, the extension was .eu.

i know, i saw it was an .eu, i was just wondering what you thought of the .bank extension in general. :)

It is super offtopic here, so mods, please move our comments.
I don't know much about the .bank extension, but I think one word premium domains can have some value. One.bank could sell for $x,xxx. Full "expressions" can also be valuable, e.g. best.bank, my.bank. On the other hand, no serious bank would every touch such an extension.

Congrats. Still have to make my first sale after 2 months of return, maybe I should buy .co's too.

Thanks! Maybe you should, if you can find good ones. Lately expired ones are sniped instantly. But there should be offers here and there.

May I still suggest .coms and perhaps look at NameLiquidate. Sometimes there are gems there. Single word co's are long gone, good ones, and for 2-word you need a large budget and lots of them as sales are "here and there". Not the same % as with .coms.

Hello @twiki and congrats for your sales!

Some questions if you don't mind to answer:

1. Having a BIN for your domains in all marketplaces aren't you afraid that you will sell a domain at the same time in two different places? I also sell at BIN everywhere but after I saw an user here writing that he has been suspended by Sedo because he sold a domain both at Sedo and Afternic and Sedo was asking for its commission, I was thinking to sell with BIN just in one marketplace and have "make an offer" in all other places.

2. Where do you park your domains, at Afternic?

3. You've recently sold quite a few domains. How many do you have, if you don't mind to share that info with us?

Thank you,

Alex.

Good questions,

1. Actually it happened to me twice (double BIN) but I managed to solve the issue amicably. Worst case scenario I'm going to definitely reimburse the commission to the platform if case needs. Everybody must, however, make their own decisions in this case. (Edit: It is risky indeed - so I don't necessarily advise everyone to do so)

I'm currently working on a piece of software that will act like an alarm and let me know if something has just sold so I can quickly remove them from other places.

The best protection here is not to underprice your domains. If you price them just right, chances of double sale are very small BUT you still get that full retail price. It's a difficult art to master, however.

2) Afternic + Sedo + Dan landers at this time.

3) Unsure how much does this help, but I have about 13 K currently. However many are bought in Jan and haven't sold yet so the sales come from a roughly 8K portfolio.

It is like domain exposure on afternic is high than that of Dan and sedo.....

What do you think???
