Just want to share mistakes that Newbies normally make from my experience - Do not attack.

1. Spend time to read before buying any name
2. Cheap names are not good - Good names are not cheap
3. Stay away from Trade Mark names: Apple, Toyota, Dell, etc...
4. Ignore any Appraisal. They mean nothing - The price is set when there is an agreement between Buyer/Seller. You can sell the same name for small company for $1,000 and big company for $100,000
5. Stay away from cc/tld name - Focus on .com only
6. Understand what is a dictionary word. Adverb or adjective is not a word
7. Any sale information from the past does not guarantee the sale price in the future
8. Buy names from Forum and list them somewhere (Afternic, Sedo, etc...) You will have a hard time to sell names here as everyone here is looking for a bargain (They claimed they are Resellers).
9. You need to have money to invest before starting. You just waste your time if you only have $10 or $20. Don't expect to buy something for $10 and turn around and sell them for $1,000 - It may happen if you have experience but the chance is 1/1,000
10. AND THE NUMBER ONE MISTAKE even OldTimer Make is putting 2 Words together. It may sound good but it worth NOTHING. Ex: CasinoHusband, PlasticMoon, PaperCoin, etc...

There are many more but these are the common mistakes.

Good Luck.

I have found using "-" is really bad and have found that puting 2 words together is better :)

YES,That's true
"-" also reduces the value of the domain name

All domains are good if :-
  • They have meaning.
  • They have Commercial Use.
As a new guy, I suggest you to read for the next 2 months about the good and bad domains and buy your first domain.

Thank You

Thank you for sharing.

I come from Italy and I can tell you that, in my country, .it domains are the most common ones, but also I understand that this is a local rule and, for worldwide sells, .com are definitely better.

I am from India and local extension here is .in
I find extreme catchy and meaningful short expired names for .in which are left unclaimed for several days and weeks. Had the same names been available for .com, it would have been auctioned at SnapNames for over $1000 to be added to someone's portfolio, leave along the retail cost.
That helps me feel the power of .com.
For now as a newbie, I remain away from .in regardless the fact its my local. :xf.smile:

May bad, I should have been more clear: here in Italy, if two domains are composed by the same italian word(s), the .it one will have a greater market because we prefer .it ext above .com

I understand it may be weird, but it's how it works here. If someone is selling:

Cappuccino.it
And
Cappuccino.com

Italian people would definitely buy the first.

Thanks @johnn for your guide.
I really like this : “Stay away from cc/tld name, Focus .com only”.
I have lost quite a bit of money by registering domain names with extensions such as .xyz, .io, .us, .co, and .company.
Thank you Mr John.
