When I saw Pierluigi's tweet of making 7 figures in 3 months selling gambling domain names, I dismissed it to him having strong connections in the gambling affiliate marketers' circles.

But every time I placed a backorder or bid in an auction on a gambling domain name, I quickly got outbid and I later find out that it was sold for a crazy amount. "Crazy" based on my naΓ―ve definition of course.

Can somebody shed some light on why these domain names are so lucrative and in high demand?

Do domainers buy them to sell them to gambling affiliate marketers?

I don't know anything about these type of names. The Domain King just sold GoBet for almost a million bucks.

Certain industries have more money in general and a different way they view investment than others. And even this changes with time.

Good domains that target gambling, investments, lending etc have a better chance of finding a buyer with money than a name that targets people selling cookies.

One guide you could use is the cost per click within an industry. Cost per click for the investment category is high, same with insurance, if you have really good names for that market it is easier to sell especially to someone who spends 10k or more a month on PPC.

Look at LT.com
  • In addition, the gambling website needs a lot of domain name import traffic

  • So the demand for domain names is high

  • Gambling is well established industry with the proven business models
  • There is a plenty of opportunity to earn money and the size of the global online business is more than 50+ billion now ( source: https://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/online-gambling-market) , a lot of people love gambling and spend a lot of money
  • Having a strong keyword gives them immediate brand recognition , which in turn translate to earning potential for that company.
  • Competition for the keyword will leads to companies spending more money on advertising.. e.g: google adsense, linkedin ,facebook ads..etc. By having a great gambling keyword with them, there is a massive opportunity to reduce some of the ad spend ( domaining industry experts have demonstrated this already over years ).
... there are plenty of other reasons like this .. the list goes on..

For the record, it was 3 years, not 3 months. I do agree though that auction prices are crazy and have been for some time now.
