Is there any way to check that, like running whole dictionary words into any software to see if any .com is available for single dictionary words?

There are around 150 million .com registrations. When they say all single words are taken, they mean anything even halfway decent is.

There are plenty of obscure words and tenses, with no practical use, that are available.

If you know how to program, you can access the backend of registrars like GoDaddy through their API and automate your domain search. Likewise, you can have a bot crawl through dictionary websites and scrape names for you.

But as @bmugford says, almost any dictionary word of any value has long been taken. I know, because I have web scraped wiktionary and tried it (not all words, but about a third). Plenty of strange archaic words are available, but they have no practical use. But I do think this strategy could be effective if you look at other popular extensions. I have picked up more than a few .biz, .net, .in names that way.

I have seen a service doing what you want but have forgotten the name.

In October 2020, more than 4.9 million domain names were registered all over the world. As always, .COM is the most popular domain extension with 3.3 million domain names (67%).

  • It's all supposed to be registered, it's just a guess

.Com will be popular as long as domains are useful, but there is a big difference between registrations and ones that have potential resale value.

Someone who is a lawyer named Peter Frazier might register a domain like PeterFrazierLaw.com. It would work for his use, but has no resale value.

The vast majority of registrations are that type, not generic terms with value.

of course, there is a big difference between registrations and ones that have potential resale value.AND This is the charm of the domain name, so many domainers yearn for
