I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I got a few as well, but nothing too good as the TBR deep-diving is making hand-registrations more difficult. Plus, some of my better TBR leftovers (like the aged last-name Mattice.ca) are being picked up quicker and quicker.

It was pretty slim pickings, but my best ones were probably Bisque and Fleurant, although I like the first-name Carine (and the "Frank" foreign variants Franck & Franche) as well.

yup, .ca's are slow sellers these days. I get min bid 300$ offers on decent domains but if I counter 750$ just to get a sale in, they disappear.

Everyone is definitely looking for "Pandemic Deals", with very few actual business-level buyers. Most businesses are more worried about surviving until the vaccine hits than upgrading their online presence, so all you have left are the jackals trying to pick at the bones.

I've been doing pretty good throughout 2020, but by the end of October (last sale was Oct 27) everything just fell off a cliff and all I get are a constant stream of lowball bids - some days I get a series of weird $23-$34 bids, then nothing when I send them a highball - good thing I just bought highball,ca, huh? :xf.grin:

I've also had companies that offered $XXXX previously come back at $XXX (bad move) hoping to get a pandemic firesale price, but I just mark those idiots down for punishment later. When those domains come back for renewal I will going 5 years and upping my end price.

And it's not just in domains, but I've also received tons of letters and email inquiries asking if I need to sell businesses and that ready money is available. The sharks are definitely in the water, but all you need to do is wait bit a bit longer and ride it out.

Here's flash for Rebel:

That's not *really* a Flash Sale worth advertising, where I think $2.99 (maybe $3.99 n a pinch) would be the effective barrier to entry.

Does anyone order TBR domains from whc.ca?

Not directly, but WHC now owns Siber and they will be integrating the service into WHC sometime in 2021.

i heard about the GD offer because i'm on the email list for tld-list.com. on the surface it seemed great. you only find out about the 2nd year scam just before you hit the checkout button.

Well, it looks like there's gonna be a very expensive .CA TBR domain this week.

In the NameBio listings just posted, TaxFix.ca sold for $4000 at Sedo.
Congratulations to the buyer and seller? (anyone from NamePros?)

SportsBet at $35,000 was by far the highest priced sale (on NameBio at least) in .ca during 2020.

It contributed to the high average price of $7960, among highest of a TLD on NameBio, although was based on only 37 sales for the year.

How do people see the outlook for 2021?

Sorry, but I really don't trust those types of "sales" (there are usually reasons why these are outliers) and would rather stick with data from known domain venues.

Remember that big .CA sale from a year or two ago that turned out to be just a not-at-arms-length transfer from one related company to another?

Thanks for the comment. Not sure I agree it is a complete outlier with all of the big 'bet' sales of last while. For now at least I see the .ca is in redirect use to an .io by same name.

While always good to be cautious, NameBio do require verification of the sale. I understand why they allow the seller reporting the sale to list the venue, but I personally don't like the growing practice of a few to list the next name they are seeking to sell as the sales venue for the previous one. But that is a debate already taken place on NamePros in another thread, and not really relevant to a .ca discussion.

I think that the market should be strong for .ca in 2021. Certainly new Canadian online ventures are happening, and some small ventures will be looking to upgrade to a better name before they expand their online presence. It seems that .ca is at least holding it's own against .com in the Canadian market, and maybe more than that. So I am optimistic for 2021, but sure would like to see more regular $4k+ .ca sales being reported.

Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day, so it just could be valid this time, but I'm still not going to put any credence into that particular sales source, and I don't think a lot of other people do either.

Does anyone have a copy of the TBR list from January 13?

I have a partial list up til Sunday, but forgot to redownload it last Monday. As I will be attempting (some weekend) to bring the TBR Results pages back up-to-date, I need at least the Total Number of Domains so that the trend commentary will be consistent.

Thanks.

I don’t think much will change from 2020. I haven’t looked at stats from previous years but how did 2020 do compared to previous years?
