Hey everyone,

In this blog post, I discuss why I like the idea of lease to own domain name deals and how I landed my first one.

I also discuss different things you can also do to incorporate this into your business.

Check out the blog post here.

Thank!

Did you ask them about their end-use before agreeing to deal?

That is a very good question. In this instance, I did not. But I guess it would be a good idea to know exactly what they plan to use the domain for since it's technically still under your ownership.

It's something I may consider doing in the future.

Thanks!

It's a great idea,
The buyers and sellers are quite good

It is indeed a good business tactic.

But one risk the owner stands is buyer starting a porn website( for example) and not paying lease after 6 months.

You are left with a domain which many normal buyers won't touch. So it is better to have a perfect understanding for end-use of the domain.

I like the car shopping analogy. It's a good thing dan offers a leasing option so they know when they land that it's an option!

Yes, someone pointed this out in my blog as well. I guess it is a risk but it could be somewhat handled if you get to know the buyer and see exactly what the use for the domain will be. Also, you would hold the domain in your registrar account so only you can point where the domain name goes to.

Yes agreed! I've never used DAN but have heard good things about them.

in most cases its a bigger risk that nobody will ever offer you anything for the name. You must know your names, if its something that gets good offers you should make sure the domain will be used in a way that doesn't hurt, but most domains never get offers so when you do don't throw it away

I been following the concept for a while but i know what i could do so wary of others. I do wish it all works out for you. I have generics and exact match to suit.

We all can list some examples of what could theoretically happen, but has any of that actually happened to anyone? I've sold dozens of domains in instalments and leased many more, and not once have I had a problem like that. Considering that these deals would not have happened otherwise, or BIN would have been much lower, it's still worth the risk even if something like that was to happen to one of my domains in the future.

Agreed. Again, thankfully nothing bad ever happened in the deal I did but someone using the domain for bad purposes may be more rare then imagined. It's always good to be careful but don't miss out on an opportunity because of fear of what "could" happen.

Thanks!
