  • No, we are still in the dark ages of what is possible. Virtual world all the way.

I noticed flashplayer is being discontinued at the end of this year and call me a dummy but what are they replacing it with? Seems rash. Your thoughts? :)

HTML5. The internet archive started archiving flash so the future will still be able to enjoy peanut butter jelly time.

Just yesterday I encountered a site requiring flash for the first time in months... it was a government site... :-/
That technology has been obsolete for a long time, but it's the first time I heard about it being discontinued. I guess it refers to adobe flash plugins or something? Chrome has its own variation called pepper flash, so maybe that one will work for a bit longer.

HTML5 has video / audio playback. Flash is insecure and not needed.

All videos are streamed by a server so you don't have to download the entire video before watching. Easier to use a service but you can setup a video server; typically for intranets, niche websites.

https://vimeo.com/ is an alternative to youtube.

HTML 5 is an open standard that has been maturing for a number of years. It is simply an updated and cleaner version of older HTML. It's the base language that web pages are built on. HTML 5 has native support for media streaming services built into the language, so all modern and future browsers will render it quickly.

Flash is proprietary software owned by Adobe that requires plugins and is CPU intensive.
