I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Other than DAN (which is kinda useless for .CA, in my opinion) I utilize the each of the others in a different way.
I use Dan for a few of my .ca’s. To be honest I much prefer Epik’s landing pages or Efty’s. At least with those 2, you know who is doing the offer. Well if they are not in “disguise” that is. I had an offer last night from an Epik landing page and right away, I was able to personally communicate with the buyer through email. With DAN, that option is taken away.

Never had an inquiry like this, have any of you had this?

I am in the process of purchasing
a few hundred domains for future
use. What is the price for this domain?

It just seems weird that someone seems to be intent on building a portfolio of domains but just inquires about one single domain - from someone who also clearly buys & sells domains. Did he really think this was going to work out???

HeHe.... if he is trying to do what I do he clearly left out a zero, I traditionally start with a 5k offer, that shows the seller I'm at least a serious inquiry.

Interesting. Haven't considered Epik for my .CA's (I always register mine via Namespro). And with the PayPal issue, might be a pain to get paid out

I have been using Epik for a lot of my .ca’s. I have sold a handful through them within the last year. Excellent Escrow service with a fast payout. I haven’t used them since the latest PayPal debacle. How it worked before, you would get the funds deposited into your Masterbucks account which in turn, you ask for it to be deposited into your PayPal. Not sure how it works now.

Yeah I sold a couple on NameLiquidate and the MasterBucks -> PayPal was pretty simple. But like I said, I've never used their landers

But now, who knows. Will it be MasterBucks -> Crypto -> PayPal....or MasterBucks -> Bank Wire if the the sale is big enough

I will say Masterbucks -> PayPal but I’m not sure. Their landers is very easy to set up even with a domain registered somewhere else.

I will say Masterbucks -> PayPal but I’m not sure.

PayPal dropped them, so there won't be a direct PayPal option anymore...assuming I've understood all the back and forth I've seen lately

People are already saying they can't pay for their new regs/renewals with PayPal so I'm assuming PayPal as a payout option is gone too

I meant to type Masterbucks -> bank wire. My bad. :) I just use my credit card now for renewals. No big deal for me.

Domains No Longer Worth Purchasing

Quite a while back I made a couple of offers for whois.ca, I received a response back saying not interested in selling.

Now that whois is basically crippled the domain no longer resolves and the domain would no longer factor into my 4 point requirement for purchase.

Sucks to own that domain right now.

Anyone have similar situations where a once valuable domain is now worth very little due to changing times?

Lots of .CA domains experienced that over the years - keyword stuffed monstrosities, 12+ letter non-word domains, hyphenated domains, unbrandable generics, etc.

This brings me back to one of my favorite cautionary tales about not understanding current trends - L'Esprit Physiotherapy in Montreal - it used to operate under the short brand-match lesprit.ca, but apparently some scam artist consultant either sold them, or talked them into buying, the horrific long-hyphenated-keyword-GEO physio-montreal.ca instead, and even worse, they later dropped lesprit.ca and RLM snagged it.

That is one of the worst rebrandings I have ever seen, and the company exacerbated it further by dropping their core brand in .ca rather than paying $15 in renewal fees, thus losing all existing links and email addresses.

And worse, as Google's algorithm has changed significantly over the years, when I search on "physio montreal" L'Esprit Physiotherapy doesn't even show up on the first page of results. Good job!

Do you guys mostly park .ca's at Epik?

If you mean by parking with ads, then no. I just use their for sale landing pages. Parking with ads is too risky in my opinion especially if the name is getting low traffic. There is too much of a risk with using ads on your parking page.

ISA.ca has started moving again, and it looks like Siber is going to have a nice payday.

If anyone is tracking the MyID auctions, PM me some current results. With the basement reno I totally forgot to lay down min bids.

You will never make enough from parking to compensate for the potential TM risk. Plus, but not using a full landing page, you are hampering potential sales.

No, I do mean landing pages. But, I usually use Dan, but get most sales through GoDaddy for .ca's... Wondering if I should take the leap and park everything at Epik?

I would say give it a try with some of your names. As I mentioned earlier, I prefer Epik over DAN because I like the option of getting the potential buyers email address right away. YOU control it when you have their email which can lead to a phone call. I closed a name earlier this year because I believe the phone call helped the sale move quicker. There is also the option to not email the potential buyer and just send offers back and forth. Similar to Sedo.

Maybe they had a change of mind..... $25K later!!! Or they got hit by Covid!

But I will guess it’s a fairly big Cannabis startup company coming in 2021.

More than likely a Pothead site or some real estate agent waiting on a site redesign.

Talk about a mass coincidence, but I just saw that pothead.ca is on the TBR this week.

I had someone interested in Jimi (different spelling of Jimmy), what would you guys put as minimum offer?

Are you asking what to put on your landing page as a minimum offer price? Or what asking price you should respond to this inquiry with?

Even though the tbr isnt fully out yet im predicting that the premium domain this week will be

smartphone.ca

Safe to assume after last tbr that it will be myid that gets it lol

I wouldn't be paying too much money for Smartphone, as the old world of generics is long gone. It does have some brandable appeal for a business using Smartphone XXX (World, Repairs, Reviews), but don't be laying down piles of cash hoping for a big windfall from Apple or Samsung.

More to know what to reply next time I get an offer on it. Its a name which gives me a feeling of worth, but same time its a non traditional spelling and short.
