Hi All,

Lately i see decent .biz drops. Although it isn't without a reason i wouls like to know your thoughts. In my opinion .biz never kicked off properly but the amount of bids placed on various names through sedo raises my eyebrows.

Do you think it's still worth investing?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If .BIZ were a new TLD, the newbies would be salivating over all the possible combinations. There are too many alternative extensions but as long domain investors keep buying, more are on their way. On occasion I have seen a small business using .BIZ. Good luck trying to sell one to an end user when they have hundreds of extensions they could reg for less than $75 - a price investors who have to pay renewals cannot compete with.

Too bad it is a dead tld. It would really be nice for businesses.

@Ricardo M .biz is gone. Even keyword .biz domains aren't worth anything these days. Stay away.

.biz is quite popular in certain countries.
In Poland, for example. English keywords won't do any good here.

Godaddys influence and creating a premium category may have a long term positive effect. But I am not sure the opportunity cost is worth the long term hold.

.biz is still good ,find your niche I’m selling them for 1 to 2 grand ,but the stuff that drops is not worth owning ,so to invest 100 to 300 buying from domainers to flip for 1k to 2k plus is good in my book

.biz is great for development in my opinion. It has been around nearly 20 years now, so it has plenty of recognition. Not really a great extension for resale because there are just too many alternative extensions now. A solid one word .biz domain though is what I use for my newer sites. As a developer, one of the more annoying things for me is that whenever I inquire about *buying* a .biz domain, the owner thinks his big payday has finally arrived and suddenly wants thousands of dollars, even though there are zillions of prime dictionary .biz domains available to register and top tier domains being dumped for sale on forums for less than $50.

It was a great gTLD for 1999 but things have changed since then. Many of the older registrations are brand protection registrations and the web usage level for the gTLD is quite low compared to that of .COM and the ccTLDs. The new registration volume had been focused on discounting promotions and it takes time for a gTLD to recover from that. It looks like it is a victim of enduser shift with endusers opting for .COM and the ccTLDs. I've just run web usage surveys on 150K doms each from COM/NET/ORG/BIZ/INFO and EU/DE/ES/FR/AU/SE. The results for .BIZ are not encouraging and it looks like a high risk gTLD for investment.

Regards...jmcc

.BIZ probably was not marketed properly, it should be in the top 5 tld.

I dropped mine. It's unprofessional in my opinion, so it doesn't even fit the criteria for what it was originally intended anymore.

Unprofessional, expensive renewal (to .com!)
and recently added “Premium” via loophole.

Godaddy acquired Neustar; and now own .biz

Assume they’ll keep Premium pricing disgrace.
