There is a member here and he keep posting his B.S. in the appraisal section despite comments from many members.

He seems does not care and enjoy trolling the appraisal section.
This is VERY Dangerous to New Members as they may believe in his nonsense Appraisal and keep buying/registering crap names.

Your Opinion?

Hello,

Please use the report feature on the post(s) that violate the rules in the appraisal forum so a moderator can investigate and get more involved.

Keep the following appraisal rules in mind when reporting:
5. Domain Appraisals and Website Reviews (ยป)
5.1. All appraisals below $10 USD must include a unique and constructive explanation to support the assessment.
5.2. Rule 6.1.2 applies to appraisal requests.
5.3. No external links for an appraisal.
5.4. Post only domains you own under appraisals, otherwise use the Pre-Purchase Appraisal section.
Thanks.

Then the rules should be changed and not allow anyone just pull a random number from the hat.

Thanks.

At the moment it does not appear that they have violated one of the above quoted rules for the appraisal forum.
Something is broken with appraisal section, it causes more harm than good when people can just guess a number and give false hope to people who are new to domaining....should have to show a reason why you come up with a figure

If the appraisal was below $10, the rules do require a reason: 5.1. All appraisals below $10 USD must include a unique and constructive explanation to support the assessment.

There's another fairly new member giving guesstimates now......

https://www.namepros.com/threads/bestanimeseries-com.1213858/

Quite a regular in the "appraisal" section.....

That was a touching exchange, @NickB...
"BestAnimeSeries"
was a cute exchange. Done right. He asked for justification for the $35 appraisal, and when received it; showed many thanks.

The worst is the infamous four-figure appraisals, often garbage; given by one man.

His name starts with a "j"

The exchange Nick pointed to, was alright imo. Respect all around, and not egregious.
I know you know one guy is, (jim( . I'm seriously going to put im on the spot and ask him if he'd commit to put up 10% of the bshe's spreading

Hello,

We agree that random numbers and false hope are not helpful. We encourage you to add your own appraisal if you disagree with an appraisal left by someone else. That would be the most helpful response in those situations. Then, readers may use the information available them (e.g., the appraiser's reputation and apparent effort) to determine which appraisals hold merit to them.

We know that it's not a perfect system and could be improved, so we're still thinking about it and reading your ideas.

The problem:

Detecting a random number versus a genuine estimate would be quite complicated, if possible at all.

When it comes to appraisals, assuming good faith, there are two extremes:
  • An educated guess based on significant amounts of data and experience.
  • An uneducated guess based solely on personal opinion.
Every appraisal without established formulas, from the best to the worst and everything in-between, is a guess. The only differences are education and effort.

Readers of appraisals need to do their due diligence to determine these factors for each appraisal and its appraiser:
  • Effort: Is an explanation included with the appraisal? Did the appraiser include sources? Does the appraisal have a history of doing a lot of research before offering an appraisal? Etc.
  • Education: How long has this appraiser been studying this asset class? How successful is this appraiser? How many appraisals has this appraiser given in the past? Etc.

We don't believe that the solution to this problem is less appraisals (e.g., barriers to appraise due to restrictions on appraisers) unless they're clearly malicious. It seems more productive to make it clearer and easier to determine how much effort someone has taken to offer an appraisal and their credentials to offer an appraisal.

If any appraisers are being blatantly malicious, then please report it to us; their activities will likely be in violation of rule 1.2.

You hit a key point with the below - something like it as a disclaimer in the appraisal section where people can clearly see it would help.....

Etc.

Move the pre - purchase and professional appraisal part to the bottom of the page and replace it with a Nice, Big Bold statement/advice

Considering a lot of newbies post in the appraisal section without reading a lot of threads on Namepros and not knowing anybody's history it would help them (and anyone else) form an opinion on the poster's appraisal/comments and it's worth (or lack off)....

Yes, they can state their opinion in semi-kind way if they think the domain is worthless

Why do people look for appraisals in the first place? The seller should know and believe in the value, not look for outside reinforcement.

I have entered the appraisal section a couple of times and I am not going to lie, the domains are pretty much barely worth the reg fee. A lot of the requesters don't even have profile pictures so I am guessing they are new inexperienced people hoping someone will give them a high appraisal and buy their name. I have been messaged a few times by people trying to sell me their names because I commented on a thread.

Its not "outside reinforcement" its just a discussion

Why not allow just the Pro members to share there thoughts if they desire or some other higher standard of experience level needed before you are allowed to make an appraisal in the appraisal section. Rule change maybe required if an appraisal is asked for to get genuine / experienced feedback.?.

Not trolling, but incompetence; illusions of grandeur.

Too wishy-washy; and doesnt put money where mouth is.

Ask if will pay 10% his appraisal.

We only have an Ignore feature, which prevents you from seeing their content.

We do not currently have a Block feature, but we plan to add one soon.

It appears to be an opinion; when an appraisal is requested, opinions are invited.

There is the Professional Appraisals section to try to serve that purpose.

We hope that helps.

The reason why that is a bad idea is because there is so much other spam that goes on ..Free appraisal section shouldnโ€™t be on the list or limited....its amusing because itโ€™s open to everyone and their opinions / forecast
