Epik Fights PayPal

Just read that.

Apparently Epik lost Paypal. It might seem like a blow to Rob's business but I lost PP years ago and went 100% crypto. Best thing actually, I no longer was under the thumb of their monopoly and never again had a reversal.

UPDATE: I just spoke with Rob for a minute. He's very excited to get the message out about tyranny of Paypal. He's got a LOT more to the story on what happened. Maybe he'll post about it blog it.

Realistically Paypal is a very evil company. They are a Monopoly that has been the gatekeeper of payments online for a very long time. They set fees high, they screw over sellers, and they will lock your account for the slightest of violations potentially destroying a business.

Thankfully the past years we are seeing a rise in crypto currency and it is breaking their hold. I expect Paypal to be a small percentage of their size in the next 10 years as crypto replaces their services as an unnecessary middleman.

I look forward to the fight of Epik against Paypal. May his victory be swift and complete.

I also highly recommend if you have not tried Epik as your registrar that you do so asap. Fantastic service imho.

Thank you.

Pleasseee.....something smells here....

2 quick threads in succession, 1 promoting how good Epik is from a customer perspective, (could of just posted the feedback in their thread surely) and then this one.....

Paypal supposedly is an evil company and has a monopoly.....

Why because Epik can no longer use them and lo and behold they accept Crypto.....

Paypal the Godaddy of Payment processors

To pick their side is just plain illogical.

Epik has too many of these issues with too many people/companies.

What's more likely:
  1. Epik is the problem.
  2. All the companies and people they fight with are evil.
The simplest answer is usually the right one.

It’s coordinated effort to take out the “little guy”

I'm just saying that Epik seems to have an awful lot of conflict with different people and companies.

Haven't you ever had friends like that? Where the world is always doing them wrong, and it's no fault of their own? I don't know about you, but I get sick of those people pretty quickly.

i disagree, look at their market sector.
Only 1 more difficult is telecommunications.
This is not epik’s fault. Feels like a hit job; and i need more evidence than especially Re: “Wiki”

“Wiki” is the most irrelevant to bring up outta all
Dont agree with mischaracterization using that.
These “Other problems” are worthy causes.

Yet somehow all the other registrars manage to avoid this kind of drama...

Like @NickB said, it smells fishy.

I get that you're a fan of Epik, but you have to admit that they get into more pissing matches than all the other registrars combined.

I posted this thread accidentally in Reviews. Realizing after I posted and not seeing a DELETE option I EDITED the thread to be an actual review. Then I reposted this in an appropriate category.

Paypal supposedly is an evil company and has a monopoly.....

That's been my view of Paypal for well over a decade. I can rant for a bit on that if you need clarification on why I think Paypal is a monopoly but I just thought most intelligent people would already understand that.

Paypal the Godaddy of Payment processors

No. With Godaddy I can decide to use dozens of other registrars like Namecheap, Epik, and so many others. Who is the alternative to Paypal? So while Godaddy is the big dog in the registrar world, they are NOT a monopoly like Paypal.

Epik has too many of these issues with too many people/companies

Suppose you make a valid point that Epik picks battles and fights them. But I'm going to give you an example of the good fight...

https://bgr.com/2020/09/09/fortnite-iphone-download-revenue-apple-sues-epic/

Ironically also a company called Epic but not Rob's Epik. It's the maker of Fortnite the #1 game right now. They are fighting Apple. And there is a new coalition of app developers joining in the fight.

Sometimes an injustice is worth fighting over. We should be grateful that Rob is willing to put on the gloves.

I'm a man of few words... I sell software keys and lost almost $500 because of unjust paypal disputes in last 4 months. Paypal is the true evil of payment processing world. Never use them again.

I'm curious about this though. I'm not fanboy of Epik, but they can't be the only registrar that has a questionable domain registered with them.

GoDaddy, NetSol, etc must have some pretty nasty domains among their millions of registrations, no?

It's an admirable quality if used sparingly. For me it depends on the nature of the injustice, and how often the victim is a victim.

I feel you. I got charged back for a software development project a few years ago. And to resolve the dispute in my favor, they were asking for a shipping code to see if it's delivered! The payment clearly indicated that it's for a software. They didn't even give a damn. I just let them close my account.

Yes they do, but most (or all) other registrars have shown a willingness to take action against hateful domains or sites.

Yeah, that's what I figured. GoDaddy and others probably take them down quietly while Epik takes the request/fight public which makes it visible to company outsiders. Probably not the smartest move

Just opinion based on what I've seen in the past. Have you ever read articles about other registrars hosting white supremacy sites?

Anyway, I've said my piece. I'll bow out and let you folks enjoy your Epik love-in.

Ahh i see; “Other articles” meaning Huff?
Or.. some left MSM source with agenda;

This is what’s being done to epik;
I believe the article in question was Mashable
just a tad better than Buzzfeed.
They arent the gold standard of reporting;
If you are referring to them;

Epik is facing the same repercussions for displaying a “hint” of political

To put things into context; NYT is more respectable than Mashable..

It was all over the place... Wired, Yahoo, TechCrunch...

Yahoo isnt even a source;

they are aggregator; often against politic side
Wired and TechCrunch are OK; just not neutral
when politics intertwine. Yahoo is not a source and can be a repeating the same story..
Let me know if they arent being punished for literally slight hint right
