Who pays the paypal fees in a transaction?
I have never paid paypal fees in a transaction, and if the Auction closes at $100 and when seller gives me paypal address, I usually send $100 and that is it.

But one instance I was told in the PM to either send as gift or add paypal fees of 5%

I waited for a few weeks after the transaction to write this so I don't sound petty, but i think it is important to set this expectation at the start of an Auction, just like we add renewal amount.

The seller should indicates this if he wanted the buyer to pay it. Usually when i am after a domain, I will pay anything for it, so an extra 5% will be totally ok, it'll be like the meme 'shut up & take my money lol

True.. I also sent the money fast, but I thought this might put off some buyers. if it doesn't then it is fine

Just like escrow.com if there is a clear understanding of which who pays the fees, then that's great. Some sellers will add the 5% fees in the middle of the auction & that's where I step back & leave, not due to the 5% but I feel it's not right to change anything after the first bid. Sometimes changing some terms can end up leaving some serious buyers.

Hello,

When selling/purchasing a domain on namePros, the following rule applies to fees:
6.1.7. Sellers are responsible for paying all transaction fees except those the buyer could have avoided or the buyer chooses to pay. Sellers should take fees into consideration when choosing sale prices and starting bids. Multiple sale prices and multiple starting bids may be set based on specific criteria. Learn why. Rule 6.1.13 applies.
At any time that you have a dispute regarding fees, be sure to use the report feature or add a moderator team to the directed message so we can investigate and get more involved.

Next time I will keep this in mind

Buyers don't pay paypal fees you should have posted in the thread and contacted a mod. Always make it aware who is stating that so the mods can step in and others know to avoid.

They can't indicate that, it's against the rules, a rule that many made sure came to fruition years ago on here.

He is still actively selling even though I haven't bought from him in a while. It is still in my Inbox though.

When someone does that in pm all you do is add a mod to the conversation, so they can see and there is no he said - she said.

I know about this rule and I don't care about it, I make sure to set my price accordingly, but you know it and probably everybody knows it, in the minute you will ask a moderator to step in, the buyer will not deal with you ever again, just because of a principle. So, if it's a seller from whom you buy often, maybe it will not worth to argue about the 2-3% paypal fee...but again, it's up to each of us to decide what works better for us.

That works both ways because if a seller ever tried it with me, I would never do business with them or engage with them anywhere in the domain space, including blogs and social media.

I'm not talking specifically about PayPal fees, I'm talking about asking a moderator to step in, is a sure way to ruin domaining relationships, no matter if you are a seller or buyer, so you need to make sure that the reason will worth it.

It's worth noting that the rule allows buyers and sellers to conduct business and handle the fees as they choose, but if there is a dispute or disagreement by anyone, then the rule exists to resolve those.
