I hope this doesn't come across as childish as I'm quite a beginner. I believe patience is one of the most important, if not THE most important virtue we need to develop in domaining!
Most of the craziest domain sales we have seen have come from domainers sitting on their domains for years without little movement and then suddenly getting sold for huge amount ( e.g. CognitiveAutomation- a recent one). Reminds me of a quote from Think and Grow Rich:
"When riches come, they come so fast and in such great abundance, that one wonders where they've been hiding in all those LEAN years!" Imo this explains domaining quite well.
I have bought certain domains and want to show the same kind of patience to wait for years till they sell. But I tried to find if there's a single place where we've compiled all the true domaining stories that exemplify this virtue of patience above all others and there isn't any.
So this is the idea: let's compile a list of "patient domaining" true stories that will inspire beginners and all others alike.
I'll start:

@richasis waited for 17 years on Nium, com but finally sold it for $90k. If you read that thread, he emphasizes that fact again and again as the most important factor.
(your personal stories, friends's stories, blog links, video links all are welcome)

There is an old statement in the theatrical world " It took me 10 years to become an overnight success". I guess the same is true in the domain name industry. Probably the worst think is to have an easy high value first sale. This can lead you to believe that you are an expert, and you then spend the next couple of years losing the money you made from that sale.

That quote from Think and Grow rich is part of a book that the author keeps repeating that action is needed or nothing will happen regardless how many times you follow everything else he writes.

With domaining before you learn patience you need to learn being brutally honest with yourself. If you can't overcome that, you could wait forever, and imagine all types of richness but nothing will happen.

Once you overcome that (rare) you then are left with a small batch of names that with patience you might get a very good offer.

You could also take action. Recently someone sold a name and he reported here that he used AdWords to target potential buyers. Others do some outbound and have success, but for most, we list it on some marketplaces and wait.

If you finally have a good name, wait, it might be many years, but if its really good it will probably be worth the wait.

Patience is one of the keys IF it's a good domain name, believe, renew and don't sell cheap ... You only can sell a domain once if it's serious end user ...

Better one pigeon in the hand than 10 in the air, ... Go for creativity and quality ... GLTA

20 years here, but I never set out to be a domainer.

I had a clear business purpose for my domains as developed websites, but a lot can go wrong with ambitious goals over that length of time.

Exact same story as @CraigD and myself started same day same room and started registering them calling them out to each other. Always seemed to be another reason to get another. There were a few more of us. Best stories aren't really of patience but these proactive domainers that flip in a year.

Pretty much all my sales are patient stories. I have always focused on buying quality domains, at the right price.

The selling part kind of takes care of itself over time. When you have enough fishing hooks in the water you catch fish (end users).

Could you tell some of the timeframes? Any story that can be shared will be very valuable for us newbies!
