I checked it with Chrome on an older Mac. It looked totally right to me for both. What is Avast?

That's the point, there is no problem on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Chromebook, etc. as I tried them all they work perfect. It's only PCs with their aggressive virus protection that is causing a problem.

P.S. Avast is one of (if not the) most popular Anti-Virus programs around and sedoparking.com seems to be on their hit list.

I'm planning to clean house a little, drop some .CA domains. Not that they're necessarily poor quality, in fact some are real sweethearts IMO (ie. cctlds.ca), but I'm feeling the need to lighten the overhead moving forward into an uncertain future, pending the outcome south of the border. So, you might in fact see some of them on the TBR in the New Year. Happy Thanksgiving :beaver:

I finally had a chance to look through this week's TBR list.. and man does it suck. Certainly we've been spoiled by a couple of very nice lists over the last few weeks, but even so, this is a long fall from grace.

Only a single LLL worth looking at, and not a great one by any stretch, no premium single-words I can find, and very little in the way of multi-words that don't sound a few decades old. It's like someone overturned a dumpster full of .CAs, but that might turn out to be a good thing, as my bank account needs a break from bidding against RLM.

It looks like Sedo corrected whatever problem they had with Avast blacklisting them, and things seem to be back to normal.

Sorry but I survived, lol... And I made plans to give someone control of my accounts in case I died. Not even kidding... but it just involved leaving my passwords written down in front of my computer and letting someone know. Lol.

My gf and I jumped at 13,500 feet (with masks on). We had a 1-min freefall at 200km/hr and then around 8 mins with the parachute open. It was completely insane but very safe. I never really had any doubts, but with the way 2020 is going, you never know.

I think it's finally time to come up with a more solid plan for my domains in case anything ever happens suddenly.

I’m sure some of us haven’t though that far ahead like me! :) Although my 18 year old Daughter has her fingerprint on my iPhone to unlock it so she would figure it out. :)

That's better than nothing I guess!

Giving access is one thing, but I think the tricky part is finding someone who can actually manage your domains (and who understands the biz, at least a little). You should encourage her to buy a few domains and teach her the ropes, like @MapleDots has done with his kid(s).

Rebel's sale is still on for another 3 days... and WHC.ca will most likely have another sale eventually (they had one last November, and on Canada day this year). Maybe she'll make a sale and get hooked but at the very least she'll have a rough idea on how/where to list them, potential value of certain names, auth codes, how to check expiry dates, change contact info, etc.

Glad to hear you made it, but like you also said, in 2020 you take nothing for granted.

I don't buy any of the domains for myself, I buy them for my kids so in ten years or so they will have some money for a house and a nice life.
My entire domaining account sits in trust for my kids because lets face it with the price of real estate they will never be able to afford a house by the time they grow up. Initially I was going to buy actual real estate but maintenance, rental headaches, property taxes and such are just another thing I don't need.

I figure one word domains will appreciate and eventually the will either be worth nothing (in which case I have a nice tax deduction) or they will be worth a mint (in which case my kids have a nice nest egg).

All that said my son has his own godaddy account and at 13 years old he has some pretty decent money. Sure he gets help from daddy but I have to say he has some really good registration instincts. Sometimes I have to say even better than his dads because he grew up learning about domains, everywhere we go he says this.ca or that.com and checks his phone to see if it is available.

So I was thinking, would there be an appetite for a CA liquidation marketplace? A mixture of NameLiquidate and DNWE but just for .CA's?

Seeing a premiums drop almost every week got me thinking so I came with a concept and a minimum viable product.

So...
  • Would you list your names for a set price (like $50 to $99) to try to liquidate them prior to dropping them? $50 to $99 would be a good sweet-spot between backorder prices and trying to sell on your own
  • Would you buy from a liquidation marketplace?
  • What would be a good commission to cover the cost of operating such a marketplace and to pay for future development if it takes off? (I'm thinking 5 or 10%, nothing too high or too low)
  • Should it be curated (like DNWE) or wide open (like NameLiquidate)?
In case this comes off as self-promotion, please feel free to respond via DM

The Rebel promotion ends today if people are looking for .ca hand registrations and have not yet used their 5.

Thanks for starting the thread. I would probably not buy, or sell, much on it personally, but would follow it and occasionally participate.

I would prefer a down format with some final reserve that the seller could set. I would prefer that they not start as high as NL, maybe $300 count down to $10.

I would think something like 7 to 9% commission depends on if other charges, like payment, are handled within that or if it is just a service for matching people.

I think I would prefer something that is not as wide open as NL but not as curated as DNWE. Perhaps restrict the number of submissions per month encouraging people to submit their most likely to sell. Also allow one per week for feature status that would be in a small selection of curated names that have higher visibility.

Thanks for starting the discussion.

Bob

Well it looks like the 3-letter NOR.ca (a word and an LLL) is the hot ticket this week, and to be honest that's the only one on the list I would rate as a true premium.

Interesting, Sibername presumably picks up a couple in TBR using WHC's registrar today.

Yeah, I was going through some top picks thinking, "How did WHC grab all these... wait a minute, I get it now."

At least I hope this is just a name change for some servers + PR for WHC, and not that WHC owns them for other clients.

Not mine either.

It forwards to Vanpeople.com, an Asian site with a lot of Canadian/Vancouver news and ads/links.
