This is a total catastrophe and failure for the World and humanity at large. There are some things that surpass national boundaries and borders like Human Rights and certain Environmental issues that affect the whole Globe which surely should be of concern to all of us. Whether it’s the Oceans and Rivers that have been polluted or whether it’s our air and soil that have been poisoned, it all has something to do with human activity like the Global Warming and the Melting of the Ice Caps and Glaciers which is going to put many coastal Cities and Communities under water soon. IMO

Everyone’s opinions are welcomed, but keep your comments constructive, professional, and on topic. Personal attacks and belittling of others are not tolerated.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Before this year, 2018 was California’s biggest year for wildfires, with 1.8 million acres burned.

2020 has more than doubled previous record.

No one cares Amazon burning burning ground.
“California fires” is where at. this “New” news.

In all seriousness...
Million acres; by one fire; “gigafire” they call it.
Over 4M total acres burnt in California.

Lol maybe time for a new California thread?
California fires’ have surpassed Amazon one.

Pray for everyone’s safety; is the world ending

I for one disagree, the US election has everyone distracted. Perhaps the only one who doesn't care is President Trump.

California fires are serious, but tens of thousands of fires are destroying the Amazon, over 4.6 million acres since the beginning of this year, and with higher concentration of biodiversity and plant life it is the lungs of the Earth. It doesn't get the attention it deserves because there are less humans living there, less wealth and prosperity. You can pray or do something about it.

I actually forgot the Amazon was on fire...
Other than another country.. Cali closer ‘home’
Also I’m not sure the Amazon is still burning.

Amazon Natives would probably agree with u.

Edit: Wow 😯 😯”4.6 million acres Amazon?”
Woah. California also has 4+ million acres...
but more dense populated; so increase priority

“When will it end?”

Woah

That's just since the beginning of this year (2020).

50% of the rain forests around the Earth have been cut down and burned for 50 years to make way for cattle farming. In 2019, around 75,000 fires occurred in Brazil's Amazon rainforest.

In fact, during the last 10 years alone, our planet temperature has changed more than in the last 10000 years! :xf.frown:

Climate change (denial or simple ignorance about environment impact) has been and continues to be the number one existential threat. It's evident now in California, but because of extreme politics and the need for greed, we've buried our heads in the sand and disbelieve.

Thanks for dropping in @Samer, perhaps we can change the course of our history, or perhaps not. Maybe we can modify our modern lifestyle to lessen the impact and buy some time to come up with solutions. This isn't a political thread and it's not up for debate (we don't have time for that).

The reason we haven't noticed is because the oceans have absorbed most of the CO2 and masked our response. Earth scientists (the ones that are not bought by the oil and gas industry) say that we only have a short window of opportunity left to make a concerted effort, since it is predicted that on our current trajectory, the human species has but 60 years left - that's only 60 annual harvests before the worlds food supply will be depleted - and the planet's population is on the rise - beyond our capacity to sustain it.

Watch the video (it might help to enlighten). :wideyed:

One possible solution: we, as domainers, holding the majority of the Internet's domains could find a reputable source and shed light on the subject thru DNS management (even if for only a short period), if we we were willing to collectively focus our attention on the subject. That's one solution - FB is only one domain afterall.

We have hundreds of top web developers here, probably the best domains too.

I would be willing to donate a domain to start:

WE CAN ONLY DO THIS...TOGETHER!!

I've some work to do over the next while that'll take up much of my time, but I'll sign on as time permits.

@Cal2 mentioned 3D agriculture which uses the oceans to produce crops. This may be one solution, especially the use of seaweed as fertilizer. Seaweed can supplement the soil and be added to livestock.

I've the singular and plural of 3DOceanFarm in .com - thinking to make them part of my coming gamechangex.com and forhumanity.com websites.

Those are a great domains! We can only grow stronger through backlinks, building the sites and let Google do the heavy lifting. I will get to work on this project asap. Thank you for stepping up to the plate my friend (y)

If the adults don't do something, maybe the children will, after all, it is they (the meek) who shall inherit the Earth.

4 simple steps you can do this year to make an impact on the environment and keep carbon out of the atmosphere.

1) Plant a garden. A big community garden. No till method uses compost, cardboard, canvas, paper.
  • Requires an initial investment in compost. About $30 a yard in my town.
  • Use wood chips to smother weeds. Not clean wood chips, get them strait from the Arborist with the leaves, bark, etc. Use chips instead of walkways. Keep gravel in your driveways.
2) Plant lots of perennials. Fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, berry vines, etc.. Plant multiple varieties that ripen at different times.

3) Stop buying new stuff. When you need something you will keep for years but use occasionally, i.e. a pressure washer, utility trailer, buy used.

4) Buy a bike ( even an electric bike ) and use it instead of a car to make short trips to the store, etc.

Children learn best by example. ( and turn that light off! )

Sweet!!! I really appreciate the willingness to help @mr-x. thanks!

I have already have paid hosting and can DNS through Cloudflare (just as NP's does), but if this project gets too big for my current plan, I will need some additional space. Technical support is always a bonus.

It'll also take some planning if this project is going to be sustainable. I have government and industry contacts, universities, schools and so on that can be contacted in Canada.

US is a whole nuther ballgame. That's where you, my friends, can certainly pitch in. (y)

I'm just a schmuck with a computer. I can program in PHP, C. I know how to configure a server, firewall, etc.

I lean towards practical solutions people can implement personally and locally. Getting Brazil to conserve resources is a good goal but we can't ask them to do what we won't.

In a free market the best way to stop fracking is to reduce energy use. Millions of acres are burning in the western USA because environmentalist refuse to accept forest management is a necessity.

Oregon state and federal government didn't clean the burn piles they stacked last year. ( normally burnt during the winter ). "Conservationist" refuse to let private companies clear out the thousands of trees killed by pine beetles.

Please consider a section for content about practical conservation.

Debate can be healthy too, as long as the result improves upon the status quo and goals are within reach.

It all starts with a seed - in this case, an idea (that was planted in a dream). In my culture that is VERY significant.

Lot's of hysteria. Lot's of hypocrisy. When I see Al Gore and the rest of the talking heads who live the high life, I tune out. If you disagree you're labeled a denier.

Agree with the solutions 100% in this video. Action by normal people will save the world. Not Government, or the greedy rich flying to Davos in private jets to discuss "climate change".

Al Gore is a grifter and has done more harm than good.

The projection is '60 harvests' before the soil is too depleted to produce another.

The problem with saying 'the world's' food supply, and the population is beyond 'the planet's' capacity to sustain it... is Earth is not a closed ecosystem. Its powered by the sun, which of course is in space. When you add virtually unlimited power and infinite (resource rich) space to the equation you see there is more than enough space for people and crops to grow. The real problem is, humanity has yet to realize and embrace its Keystone Species role in expanding the spectrum of earth-life into the universe -as only we can.

One way to think about the earth's environmental tipping points is... it's Mother Natures way of saying:
GET OUT! Get The F^ck Out Da House! -- It's time to grow-up and make it on our own.

Thanks for dropping in @Samer, ... it is predicted that on our current trajectory, the human species has but 60 years left - that's only 60 annual harvests before the worlds food supply will be depleted - and the planet's population is on the rise - beyond our capacity to sustain it.

We are faced with a dilemma - how to balance the needs of a growing population within a finite space.

In order to accomplish societies goals, we must have the will and the way, but that takes time, energy and investment.

In recent years, technological development has outpaced humanity's ability to evolve and mature IMO. That pace is ever increasing and the population continuing to grow rapidly and expand it's reach, ecroaching upon nature. We have to buy time in order for humanity to catch up and/or slow down proportionately.

With public education in sustainable practices, and by reducing our ecological footprint, I believe as a species, we may well achieve that equilibrium. That is why I felt compelled to propose this project. However, as with any technology, there will be glitches and growing pains. Par for the course, I encountered some tech problems already and had to work with a backup computer. In due course, as in the past, there will also be challenges to and/or contrary interests to the public concern as human nature vs nature itself competes.

https://hbr.org/1998/05/evolution-and-revolution-as-organizations-grow

As I mentioned earlier, I would be more than willing to donate the domain, my time and energy for what I feel is a worthwhile pursuit - if it is to be. Therefore, I set up a simple landing page as a place holder for the time being while discussion regarding the direction toward a sustainable plan for the project is developed - stay tuned.

You can find the landing page here: ProjectBluePlanet.com :xf.cool:
