Thanks for the laugh. I wish this was my sale. I'm on such a cold .CA streak that I've just been diagnosed with hyperthermia

Sales are no problem for me, it's the payment part that seems to be the issue. :xf.grin:

I'd kill for a deadbeat offer on my CAs right now, just to get a sliver of excitement

Yes, but that sliver of excitement is soon followed by the soul-crushing realization that you'll never see one thin dime of that sweet, sweet money.

Is it worth it? I don't know.

I thought it would have changed by now or I would have gone there first.

yeah geez I'd have thought it'd have changed by now too. darn godaddy buyers don't know what they're doing... you'd think the brokers would follow up with the buyer to make sure everything gets transferred & updated properly...

Sure, everyone needs to worry about me, not the guy controlling the Namebio .CA sales chart. :xf.frown:

I'm not sure if anyone has figured out who shelled out for the last few really good TBR domains, have we? Maybe its you!

I'm also very interested to see what I won outright at Siber and dot-ca (they won on the WHOIS), as in finding out which of these I didn't get last-second sniped on by RLM, and have to fight it out in auction against Daddy TBRBucks. :xf.grin:

haha, i see one of my $20 bids got sniped at the last second and put into auction too. what comes around goes around :)

humorously, I see that snipers.ca is in next week.

Anyone here get in on ranger?

Me, but like I said, it was already at $1K before I even got a chance to bid.

And I forgot that DynaDot is in USD by default, so the current price for BK.ca is actually $3234.47 CAD.

I wish, but unfortunately none of the TBR Registrars will accept "GD Deadbeat Money" as payment.

Too bad, as I'm flush with that crap.

You are not going to believe this, but the CIRA is going to cancel yesterday's auction (again) and registrars are processing refunds. Looks like someone (cough*MyID*cough) had an issue and complained to their inside man again.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this whole relationship with MyId has to be investigated.

In fact the entire TBR is a joke, I can think of a dozen ways they can make it better and fair for everyone.
I'm sure if CIRA does not want to do it themselves they can pick one company to represent TBR where anyone wanting a domain can bid.

There should be an online petition where we force cira to address and overhaul the entire TBR system.

Competition is inherently good and I would hate to see a monopoly on the TBR. It would be 100X worse than it is today, and likely rife with corruption.

What the CIRA needs to do is get their own crap in order and no matter if a MyID tech was sleeping or a Siber server went offline, the results need to stand. This cancelling and re-running is 3rd World and if required the government needs to audit their operations to make sure the $$$ are going to infrastructure and not someone's offshore account.

I just asked the CIRA why this happened again this week and we'll see if I get an answer.

Are there any other tld's, cctld's or new gtlds that have a mulligan rule, if a registrar has an issue or is shut out they redo a drop?

I keep hearing this happen over and over again when MyId gets shut out. Is there any governing body or legal body that has an obligation to look into complaints brought forward against the TBR system?

If there was an issue on the drop was it on cira's side or on individual registrars side?

yeah, so myid didn't get shut out, but whoever prioritizes their TBR run must have called in sick today. That was an expensive mistake.

Truer words were never spoken.

That's the real key, and the last time it happened, it was actually MyID's fault for not including a required field, but (queue the excuse) since Fury had never been fully updated to require that field in the system before, then the CIRA agreed to cancel and re-run.

This is probably a similar case, where the CIRA made a change, some registrars forgot to update and it's "squeaky wheel" time where more excuses are invented.

Dammit, all that time and effort down the drain, and next week's list is going to be an absolute beast.

I also probably need to up the credit limit on my "limited online liability" CC to handle the double-billing, but then I won't be able to lower it for 6 months.

Thanks CIRA!

One thing I don't understand is that in previous :cancel and re-run" fiascos, registrars like MyID or Siber were virtually shutout and there was at least some evidence of a problem, but MyID got the Top 2 picks... so maybe it's Siber playing "squeaky wheel" this time?

Why do we need competition with an open bidding system?
All TBR domains would be at one registrar, that could rotate each year.

A neutral auction system similar to the godaddy one gets put into place.
We bid and the highest bidder gets the domain.

If godaddy is any indication there is a fortune to be made on expiring domains.
CIRA could cover all their costs and then some if they implemented the auction directly.
Or they could take a chunk of the profit from the registrar designated to run the auction that year.

Un-effing-believable. My rat-detector was activated yesterday at 2:25PM PST. I had an inkling this would happen but then thought, there's no effing way CIRA would do this again, would they? Dynadot and Baremetal should be protesting and requesting compensation for losing a couple premium domain auctions.

CIRA better publicly publish a very good explanation and apology to domain winners and the TBR registrars.

Are you really asking this question?

Go look up other Canadian monopolies and you'll understand pretty quick what happens. Honestly, I didn't think hardcore Monopolists were still alive.

And P.S. GoDaddy is not a monopoly, they are just one of many players in the domain industry.

And in a GoDaddy-like .CA system, MyID, Siber, NamesPro, WHC, et al would then auction off their expiring domains privately, without a TBR run, and with the ability to fully manipulate the system without any input from the CIRA. It would be a pure marketplace, with any premium domains already priced to the ceiling.

No reply to my inquiry and there was no full & complete explanation from the CIRA to the TBR registrars, just a cancel order due to technical issues.

I highly doubt we'll hear a peep from the CIRA and they will continue releasing edicts like Castro on a bender.
