Quick questions for @epik and @Rob Monster on this promo:

Will Epik do the right thing and send multiple reminders about the $299 renewal fees on these domains next year?

Will Epik have a system in place to require manual confirmation of these renewals, since they will be 302x the original reg fee?

If Epik allows domain investors to rent $299 names at $1 and does not have a system place to responsibly remind investors not to auto-renew, many people will get burned next year.

Overnight, an innocent $50 initial investment could balloon into a $15,000 debt.

Epik are good with advanced warnings for renewals
They are set to manual renewal automatically - at least for me this was the case

Edit:

And no I am not some Epik fan boy

I think, in this case, Epik should require manual authorization of renewal on these domains with a prominent warning of the renewal fee.

And, like NameSilo, Epik should offer a short window of time for investors to change their mind on renewals that have been processed.

If this is not done responsibly, many people will get burned on this promo next year.

don't you feel asking too much. it's easy to disable auto renewal on epik and most registrar, don't be lazy

I have no personal stake in this. I don't believe in the value of .realty.

I feel sorry for those who will lose funds.

Believe me, one year from now, we will hear from someone who forgot to switch off auto-renew.

If they buy $1000 worth of .realty from Epik now, they could end up owing $300,000. Very sad.

Auto renewals are not set on in my Epik account either. I am not sure if that was always the case, or in the beginning I turned it off. I always turn auto renew off everywhere. In many new gTLDs you need to be very careful of unplanned renewal, as often the ratio is 25:1 renewal to first year, or of that order (not always of course).

In this case @DomainBanana makes a good point that one needs to be ultra careful, as renewal of even 20 or 30 would bring financial ruin. So right now, if you have registered .realty, go and make sure that they are NOT set to auto renew. You can see this by on the domain clicking selection window and set renewal and see what it is. There are three options Auto, Manual and Off. Does someone know the difference Manual and Off (maybe whether get reminders?).

If you do have auto renew set at Epik they send out a notice and then implement the renewal, or attempt it if source of funds, 5 days later. I agree that some additional measures for these would be good.

The most important thing though, make sure you have them set to manual or off!

Bob

PS There is a way to filter to see if you have any in your portfolio set to auto, but I think it only works for those within 90 days of expiry?
