What did Milton Friedman say in that video that you disagreed with? (Hint, he didn't say greed is good. Nor did Adam Smith or any other respected economist I know of. Gordon Gecko did, but he's a fictional character played by an actor who was born into wealth.)
Most greedy people I run into are not rich people. They are fearful. Wealthy people generally look for things to bring meaning to life, not more money. And let's not forget the flip side of greed: envy.
For all their "virtuous" displays, I would wager most of Antifa and BLM are running on plain old envy - which is a poor-person's greed. They want more stuff. For themselves. And they hope to take it from people who have that stuff, and justify it by calling them greedy. People steal flat-screen TVs during riots, not bread or foodstuffs. That should tell you all you need to know. They are the greedy ones.
I already answered this question, however, we can delve a little deeper if you like as your question qualifies a response.
We cannot change history, but I will provide an example,
the potlatch ceremony - a way of redistributing wealth among the First people in Western Canada. The potlatch ceremony was forbidden, passed by the Government of Canada in 1885 and lasting until 1951. That is within "recorded history",
contrary to his statement in the video, and although he recived a Nobel prize in Economics, he may not have known about it. From what I have read in his works, his ideas seem somewhat general and a little vague as it applies to today's modern society.
On the other hand, can we say today that people who lived free on the land in America, with a developed society that flourished for thousands of years before Europeans came to these shores, lived in poverty?
What has been done has been done, what has been said cannot be unsaid, but we can change the way we think and thereby the way we do things in the future by understanding one another, by learning from each other and by allowing our fellow human being the opportunity to become their best person through education and economic freedom.
From what I've seen of the riots, vandalism and violence posted in this thread (99% by the Right) cannot be condoned IMO. I also see the riots being perpetrated mainly by a select set of radical youth. I don't see many elderly out there destroying property - those that have been most affected by social and economic injustice for decades.
Personally, I am not envious of the rich. I live within my means and am content to maintain a way of life at a sustainable level both for the planet and its inhabitants.
As for MAGA - shall we repeat history? AGAIN, being the qualifying adverb - a call to action. According to the evidence,
Watergate pales in comparison to the crimes committed by the current administration.
@sonatime - what part of Canada did you say you are from? I see you that you have been drinking from an extremist cesspool, hopefully never to be in my part of Canada. And if you care to
step into the deep dark forest again, I will be there, with my chess tomahawk sharpened
Peace out!
