So as most of you know I don't handreg too many domains .. but just tried now!

However at both GoDaddy and Epik it seems hand-registrations are down .. kinda curious what sort of world it would be if there was no more hand-registrations possible! Talk about an explosion in the aftermarket .. all our half decent domains would double++ in value almost overnight and only go up from there!

Anyhow .. feel free to discuss a world without handreg .. in the meantime @Joe Styler @Rob Monster @Paul Nicks @Sufyan Alani .. any idea what's going on? Is Verisign down and finally giving the world an excuse to break their damn contract with ICANN?

Thanks all for valuable feedback, I decided to not take any of the domains in the list, they are free to register if anyone is interested in them.

lawandrespect.com
lawofrespect.com
humancondom.com
nybcf.com the nybcf.org got taken by a big company
financialcensorship.com
religioncensorship.com
reversecensorship.com

already have offers
takes creativity!!
Speaking of creativity...i just hand reg'd LawandMatter.com:xf.wink:....sort of goes hand in hand with LawandOrder.com with the exception;

Valuable keyword: matter is a high value keyword that has an average sale price of $2012.

No problem with hand regging...it took me exactly 23 seconds to register and pay $8.49 for LawandMatter.com at GD.

I registered 2 domain names in .com today.
There was no issue at all.
It seems you are dreaming such a scenario, pray tell me why they will stop hand registrations?

This problem was related to CentryLink company, not Verisign.

.com is the king of all kings, and hand-regs are both good and bad. Some hand-regs sell for x,xxx to xxx,xxx others will only sell for around $500. So many domainers think that they can register anything and make thousands on a single domain but most domains your lucky to get $500 for, unless super premium I even saw an ABBC .com pattern on here go for just $535. Considering domains like those that have been sold out for about 20 years almost it's highly unlikely you can register something today and sell it for more then low-xxx. Fact is 10% of domainers are losing money each year due to "lack of wisdom".

I agree, most hand reg'd domains I see are junk that I wouldn't even spend $1 to register. Peeps have probably said that about some of my domains too, since 95% are hand reg'd by myself. As a noob, that's all I did. Down the road, I purchased some better ones in the aftermarket. It took time, and several sales under my belt to be able to discern what qualifies as good. I don't hand register domains as often as before (during my name addiction phase) since having reg'd a large quantity, I couldn't afford to renew them all and I had to drop many. Some were picked up and used by large companies and organizations, so those were actually good names afterall. It's funny because the users paid more in the aftermarket than I was asking to begin with. O_o I learned some valuable lessons along the way.

I still find a few gems every now and then when a fresh idea strikes me and I find it's still available, and only if I am confident in renewing.

I've traveled some of the same roads you have, but no aftermarket junk for me. I hand reg with a purpose in mind. I'm either searching for restaurant and food service domains, real estate and contract/builder domains, healthcare domains and sports/entertainment domains for example. I'm mostly hand registering domains that I'd use myself if I were to open a restaurant, start a real estate firm or provide healthcare services. My biggest problem to date is getting my domains in front of the "end users" who might be interested in them.

Fortunately I'm a pretty good player of games like charades, scrabble and even chess all of which require imagination, creativity and strategic thinking. I just wish I'd learned about this game earlier instead of playing Ketchup:xf.rolleyes:

Rich, not sure if you're still doing ngTLDs but starting from Monday Epik will be running a $1 .realty promo. Might be of interest to you.

Yeah I saw that, and being in the real estate business I may pick up a few to try to unload within the year. However with a $299 annual renewal I won't be holding on to any after twelve months. Thanks for the heads up(y)

I have to disagree with the original idea of the thread.

It depends. You can't turn this into a blanket statement, cause it'll be false.

If this was true, there were no domains registered in the first place. Because the first time you register a domain, it's a hand reg. That first owner sees some value in the name so they spend some $.

Now. There are two types of domains that can be hand regged. First, the ones you hope they have some value (most won't). Second, the ones you know to have value, either today, BUT - most importantly - significant value in the future. Edit: Always stick with the second option only.

Any recent trends, AI, crypto, whatever, started as handregs. Who has hand registered those and kept them, the good ones, has certainly banked on it later. So this contradicts the post. Also, new trends and new markets are being created as we speak.

In fact, I have just hand registered a lot of domains in a hot-incoming niche (won't say which, sorry) where all dropped domains are either registered nowadays, or snapped by DC. Surprisingly perhaps, I have found about 20 highly valuable 2-word domains, perfectly matched for the niche. Say like fusion (although it's not fusion). Anyway. I plan to sit 10 years on these domains if needed, because I'm 100% sure they will sell for significant profit.

I have also made good money with hand regs. Selling hand regs each month that add to the base line. Will still continue to hand reg when I have a spark/idea, although 95+% of the domains I get are pre-owned.

If you refer to top value domains, those are probably long gone so no hand regs. But even here: Unless, unless the new niche is just being formed and you're the guy with a brilliant idea, to reg that gem before the niche has even started properly.

This being said, end note, it is obvious that beginners hand reg a lot of crap (I did too for a bit) so... that part is valid.

A noggin is a persons head.

Noggin scan would be Aussie slang for thinking. So still one for hand regs.
