Dont see a huge future for this one, theee have been some nice .app sales but apps are slowly replacing websites. I'd focus on a stronger, established extensions wth a proven track record.

Many see Progressive Web Apps as a future. They are designed to replace regular apps and are built around plain domain names. You don't need a .app domain for PWA but if this is the direction we are going, .app extension is an incredibly strong and logical fit for that kind of application.

So we might see the exact opposite trend - websites replacing apps.

I see an increase in demands for one-word .app names.

I think .app domains are doing great.

There is no doubt that. App has great potential.

I have map.app ,model.app ,ol.app ,of.app ,etc. There are many powerful buyers contacting me every day, but I still intend to keep holding. I think we need to focus on trends.Google has a plan.

Wow, great names. When did you buy those? Seems I'm 2 years too late to the party for 3 and 4 hang reg domain names at the moment, although I still haven't gotten through a four-letter dictionary to try every possible word yet.

.app is a tough one.

I believe its a great extension that will have a pretty decent future for those that have really good names.

The problem is that pretty much everything that is even close to being decent are premium priced all over the board. Not really a good extension for me personally, although I really like it.

It took me almost a year to collect these domains, and I was lucky. I agree with you. App is a time game now. I have lots of buyers' quotation here everyweek, but they haven't hit my goal at present.
I suggest you buy as soon as possible, because there are many high quality.App domain names that can not be renewed in the near future, then drop.
Any way Good luck to you. :xf.grin:

The 4 .app names you have mentioned above are costing $5K per year in renewals. How long can you continue to carry such names without a sale?

You mentioned the key issue. The renewal of these domain names is not that high, and still not low.(If you have a lot of domain names, you should know the special discount of the registrant)
Frankly, I've received a lot of offers so far, but they haven't met my expectation, and many of them have reached $XXXXX. I think it's a matter of time.
At the time of purchase, I had planned to hold them for at least 5~10 years.
It's not an easy decision, but who knows the future.

That is fine, I logged into my accounts which have max level discounts one said $4,595 renewal, other said $4,700 in renewals, for 4 names that is a very high level of renewals, the issue is by the time you make a sale, all the carrying costs are going to bleed you out given the low sell thru. Sure you might hit that high one off lottery ticket type sale, but you are spending a fortune on lottery tickets in order to do so.

Yeah, some of my friends own two letter. Com. Although the renewal fee is very low, the purchase price is very high. They have covered the whole cost through sales. When your capital is relatively large, this is a feasible way to play.
As for. App, it's a matter of time i think.

When your capital is large so can be your losses, no guarantees in this business, the registries have learned how to offset the risk to the domainer with premium renewal.

Now say a buyer buys a domain if yours for $10-15k, if so you allow it, and want to transfer it to another register, say map.app, they would have to pay another $2k, and it could essentially kill their deal as most buyers are clueless to premium gtld pricing structures as they default to .com fixed pricing.

Your essentially gambling arbitrage that you make a sale before you renewal bleed you out.

Well, so before buying these kind of domain names, we need to collect the demand to judge potential buyers. Fortunately, some of them have contacted me. This is basically in line with my expectations.
Anyway, nothing can be absolutely certain. At least the arrival of the epidemic has changed some things.
But the demands for domains is still huge. So...
