I have heard that certain domains are SEO friendly? Is this true or just marketing gimmick?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You can have an exact search match with high searches on keywords not the results but the amount of people looking it up in a month. These are strong domains as it is easier to rank them but it doesn't guarantee end user could rank a common phrase over the actual content of the results of a search.

Exact match domains coupled with strong content can help.

There is also DA domain authority ranking which used to be PR page rank often these will be rated by bots which doesn't really always make sense when you see what is offered. Advertisers like these as they advertise the score but often they will try advertise casino traffic or something else that has nothing to do with what they really have.

EMD in .com extension

Other domain extensions become more and more difficult to rank even if they may be EMD.

Good unique content and genuine back links are required in any case for SEO.
EMD helps in reducing the SEO burden only to some extent.

Marketing gimmick part depends on how much the seller knows about SEO. Some domains help SEO very little. SEO power of domains is very low. You can safely assume it is zero most of the time when buying domains.

Technically speaking, domain is just a tool that converts server IP address of a website into human readable and memorable and typeable form. Websites don't need domain names in order to function. Hence its SEO power is very little. All domains, and all extensions are almost the same and the biggest difference between domains is age in terms of SEO.

I suspect that domains that have misused a descriptive name may be disadvantaged in Google. You may have to persuade Google to reset its opinion of the name if it has become toxic.

EMD are still ranking high in search engines (in most niches, but not all) couple it with ccTLD (if your business is country-based/restricted) and your position will be (bit) higher in search results.
