I registered several .bet domains years back. Been renewing them since.

completely forgot I owned them honestly. Why? because the sales history for .bet domains was pretty lack luster with only 6 recorded sales.

What a difference a few years makes.

It seems that Afilias has finally been selling their .bet domains and for an incredible premium at that.

Please note in the past as I have checked. All .bet domains that Afilias secured for themselves prior to launch of .bet normally have a Premium Pricing.

meaning. Whatever price they list the domains they reserved for themselves. THAT is the price the registrant will PAY YEARLY FOREVER.

let that sink it for a bit first.

Therefore any and all .bet domains sold by Aflias will be earning .Afilias whatever sold price is listed on Namebio for that domain.

see for yourself below.

The "sweet spot" seems to be $3,250 and $3,125. Granted most of the recent .bet sales were for 2 letter .bet.

But even so at $3,250 to $3,125 year? That's a nice chunk of change for Afilias.

The domains that stick out for me as far as sold price are Africa.bet for $3,250 and Bingo for $3,250 and Joker.bet $3,250. These are not 2 letter domains.

Takeway? Buyers/Investors believe that paying $3,250 YEARLY for .bet domains is a "GOOD IDEA".

This means if you own some .bet at the very least you can sell realistically now sell it as high as $3,250.

Because................. All domains not owned by Afilias carry the renewal fee of $15 - $18 per year not the $1,000 to $3,250 a year price.

So if you send them to auction now. As part of your "sales pitch" you simply mention the list below. Before? I would not have bothered with just 7 recorded .bet sales.

Now? it's a respectable amount.

At the very least a .bet auction starting at say $100 has a good chance now than before.

At least this is how I see it.

Feel free to comment and disagree.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
All this is largely irrelevant to domain investors. Afilias owns the registry and has no carrying costs basically.

I think you are missing the point with respect.

any and all lucky domain investors who snagged some nice .bet domains that Afilias "missed" are in a great position to sell .bet domains with this "data".

Yes Affilias is the registry that owns .bet and they hold no carrying costs. Agreed.

We domainers aren't a "registry". A registry would cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars even millions to start. As far a I know.

and yet some have snagged some nice .bet domains.

I compare this scenario with the US Mint allowing "mistakes" to go into public circulation like coins with double stamps or incorrect marks on them.

The US Mint should never make mistakes.

Afilias had the opportunity to register any and all .bet domains it could prior to launch where anyone can register .bet domains.

To miss some is pretty rare.

The value here for a buyer of a .bet domain OWNED BY DOMAINERS is that they WON'T have to pay the hefty renewal pricing that Afilias has set for the .bet domains they own.

If an inquiry for a .bet domain OWNED BY DOMAINERS ever comes in. This simple FACT should NOT be overlooked.

A seller can say. "You are buying a .bet domain OWNED BY A DOMAINER and not AFILIAS. You only pay one price and then renew for $15 - $18 a year for a .bet not owned by Afilias.

For example, I own Line.bet.

If I sent this to auction with no reserve and a starting bid of say $50 and my "pitch" is that had Afilias secured this domain. It could have charged $1,500-$3250 a year to renew this domain.

And now YOU can possible own it for $50.

Also in our "industry". We always sell on the reseller market based on "trends".

If there is a new "trend" like "crypto" or "coin" or "Bit" where domains containing these keywords consistently sell for big money doesn't that always bode well for all the rest of us who own crypto, coin,or bit domains?

The list I provided simply means one thing.

"People are buying .bet domains."

And that is good news for all .bet domain holders.

Edit: only one caveat.

All these sales bode well. only for .bet domain holders with "good" single word or short domains that are relevant to gambling.

words like

Poker
Casino
Jackpot
Dice

etc etc.

Maybe even brandables like my Royale.bet

or even better my Deposit.bet

Look how few domains on that list were not sold by Afilias. On top of that a huge amount are LL.
I don't think the sales are all that impressive personally.

Have you checked what's on these domains? Just a couple developed, most owned and offered for sale by domainers. Hardly seeing any enduser activity so I'm not convinced .bet is a good investment.

The only .bet I know of is sports.bet that redirects to sportsbet.com
That name would be IMO the premium name of the entire name space.
I'm not knowledgeable about gambling so there may be more out there that I am oblivious to.

I think you have a good one (deposit.bet) but the space itself is obviously limited to the number of related names.

Personally, I think most of the sites will never be developed because the betting industry is tightly regulated in many countries, and it costs a fortune to setup these types of operations on a professional level.

I think the thread started by OP @WhoaDomain.com is very relevant to domain investors, and I am thankful he shares his observations.

I, unfortunately, have only a few .bet names, (large.bet, and planet.bet), but I love the extension, and I just kind of missed the train in this extension honestly). I already got several xxxx offers for those names via LinkedIn, so not anonymous/fake offers you get at some marketplaces. I rejected so far, as I think they are worth at least low-mid xx xxx for the online betting operator in 2020 and they can go even for more in the future. They have $15 renewal each, which is absolutely nothing, for the quality of the names. I consider such names as a very good investment.

I know several private investors who also paid attention at a time when it mattered and got some good .bet names with standard renewals of approx. $15. So what OP is saying is, once you have the opportunity to get a good domain name in .bet, simply get it. The standard renewal fee for .bet is very low, while the betting industry is rich and end-users can spare some very good money on domain names they like.

The fact that Afilias is reporting their sales in a regular manner in venues like namebio.com is very good, as many other registries are not that proactive in reporting. This way, this particular registry helps also us, private domain investors, in a big way, as they provide us with nice comparables for our names as well :)

Agreed.

But for me I never look at it that some big huge company will buy from me. but a tiny minnow with aspirations on creating say one of those affiliate websites like using the script below.

take your pick below.

https://www.flytonic.com/
https://pokatheme.com/
https://themeforest.net/search/casino affiliate
https://vegashero.co/
https://slotgen.com/

All the above were found just now using the Google Search results below.

lol why does it matter who sold it?
domainer or Afilias.?

still doesn't change the fact that these sales ultimately means that "people are buying .bet domains"

in fact I don't see the Afilias sales as a negative but a positive because the Afilias domains carry a holding yearly cost of $3,250 not $15.

I mean we can't just ignore that fact even if it is someone's "play" on securing 2 letter .bet's.

Doesn't even matter what the buyer's reasoning was to buy 2 letter .bet's.

Again all that matter's is that "people are buying .bet domains now at a huge premium and a yearly holding cost".

Not too shabby if you ask me.

In a world were people spend $10,000 on OKBoomer.com is it really difficult to be optimistic when we see increased sales for .bet domains?

I have seen some ridiculous prices for .com domains in my time as a domainer that still boggles the mind.

So when I see single word .bet domains selling. I can't help by get excited.
I think your price expectations are disconnected from reality for those domains, but best of luck.
