Can we use .ORG extension for naming a domain name website ? I'm thinking of using NameSmart.org as my domain name/ branding website.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Sure, why not? If you like it then go for it :xf.cool:

I've seen a lot worse.

.org is no longer considered to be solely for use by organisations or for non-profits.

It is a bit more expensive to renew.

Yes you can, but at first your visitor or potential client will think you are a non profit organization

I would say go for it if i owned NameSmart.com and the more you promote it the better i would do. In other words why promote the dot com by making a brand.

looks good from my personal opinion.

It isn't even generic meaning you could buy a dot org that was and would be a better choice.

my opinion: no, I never choose a org for domain / site

.org is a nice option if you're not getting the desired name in .com or .net

Sure, but I would only do it if you had a seriously top tier term or brand. I don't think it works with just some average term.

I see poor advice offered let me explain if you had a generic term in dot org and not a brand you might have something that you could use to still promote another primary site. Right now your asking if a dot org will work with someone using the same brand. It is a really poor decision that will have you working for nothing.

NO, if you want using that name to sell domain portfolio. unless you only sell .org domains.

YES, for anything else..

What are you selling?

If .com names, how do you persuade clients to pay you xxxx for it, if they can hand reg exactly the same in. org for hand reg fee?!

They will think if .org is good enough for a branding expert to start business, it is good for me.

My opinion: your portfolio page domain should match the extension you are focusing on as your product.

Could also be taken as NamesMart. So not a bad name regardless of extension. But for a dn site, personally feels kind of odd to base the name on the .org tld.

I would consider in the .shop/.store/.online extension which is currently avail at hand-reg, and makes a bit more sense to me in terms of what you want to use it for. Also avail in the .domains extension.

Of course! It will depend, however, on how well and how good you handle the website.

I will avoid a .org. If it is a service can still work, but if you are selling .com names with a .org name it is a no-no. IMHO

How about a .NET extension?

I agree with this. If a significant portion of your planned portfolio is to be in .org, I would think that your name being .org is totally correct. But if you plan on 99% .com, probably not.
My opinion: your portfolio page domain should match the extension you are focusing on as your product offering. For most that is not .com, but not always. I find it a bit of a mismatch those who sell a lot of new extensions, but don't use one themselves.

The one other exception though would be if your planned eventual business had some sort of dispersed organizational structure - such as a crowd sourced segment (like the contests at SH), or a system of links almost like a series of franchises.

Nevertheless, if you can get a much better name to left, I would not absolutely not rule out .org, but tend to prefer a .com, .co or your own country code in general.

Best wishes whatever you choose!

Bob

Please dont, unless you plan to donate domain names! org is still linked to non profit for most people so it will be weird to see a website for selling domains with .org, personally I have never seen one!

.org is is not a taboo for domain names websites.
