To Mask or not To Mask... is there even a question?

Do you wear a mask in public?

Hello Mods and Mems,

Well here we have it. Mandatory mask wearing in public.
Now most of you that know me understand that I am not the kind of guy that welcomes new laws...
infringement on personal freedom... that kind of stuff.
However, their are some laws that have been passed in my lifetime I believe are just plain common sense.

Car seats for kids.
Seat belts.
No riding in the back of pickup trucks.
No smoking in public places.
Stuff like this saves lives.

Wearing a mask in public is not so much for your own protection, but for the protection of those around you.
This is not my opinion. According to the medical professionals, this is a fact.

Lets hear from you.
Without turning this into a political pissing match, those of you who believe against wearing masks in public, please justify your position.

Please keep it civil... no personal attacks.

Thank you.

Peace,
Kenny

And hook it up to a battery. Save some energy, save the planet :).

Yes use a manual treadmill that is powered by you running on it, these actually give you a better exercise as you have to use your own energy to make the treadmill belt turn. The faster you run the more energy you can create and store in the battery.

I'm not sure that's the best place to be 'storing' your mask when you're not wearing it as you're supposed to sneeze/cough in your elbow. Funny vid though :)

Dollar Tree, Family Dollar reverse mask policy again. Now requiring customers wear masks amid COVID-19.

Maybe they have been reading the threads on NamePros :xf.wink:

Policies that are based on logic and compassion are ultimately going to win despite all the nastiness that is thrown into the debates by some people along the way. (y)

@Kenny , I believe that you and all the other members here who have been trying their best to create awareness around the necessity of wearing Masks have done some good for Humanity.:angelic:

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/08/09/world/doctor-runs-with-mask-on-trnd/

Dr. Tom Lawton wore a three-layered cloth mask during two runs, totaling 22 miles.
(CNN)A doctor in England wanted to prove that face masks won't impair your oxygen levels. So he ran for 22 miles while wearing one.

Throughout his running journey, Tom Lawton used a pulse oximeter to monitor his oxygen levels. The medical device measures the saturation of oxygen in a person's red blood cells and typically clips to your finger.
"The mask didn't come off at all (no food or drink) -- and oxygen levels were stubbornly 98% every time I checked," he tweeted last month.
In an on air interview with CNN Sunday morning, the ICU doctor said he wanted to show everyone that masks are safe to wear and are a necessity in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

Top health officials have changed their minds about face mask guidance -- but for good reason

Health officials urge people to wear a mask not only for themselves but to protect others. This guidance has been met with controversy over the past few months as people are refusing to wear them.
"I was frustrated because I've seen some photos where people who sat at a desk wearing a mask and claimed that the oxygen levels dropped just simply wearing a mask," Lawton said.

Duly inspired, Lawton donned his three-layered cloth mask one day and then ran 8 miles to work while monitoring his oxygen levels. After work, he ran another 14 miles. While he does admit the mask was rather uncomfortable, he says his oxygen levels never dropped.
"I don't think that masks are going to solve this on their own," Lawton said. "We need to keep distance, comply with isolation, wash hands and wear a mask."

I really respect you @AbdulBasit.com

but this post is utter nonsense
maybe you use the wrong mask

the mask I use lets me breathe with ease
all dentist in Germany wear these masks since ages
day in day out
while treating patients
same is true from many other health care workers

to remove governments
is a very different topic
has nothing to do with masks at all

maybe your government should be removed
-I know nothing about your government-
my government has done an astoundingly great job-
I was not a fan of them before corona but now I think of them with respect.

Holocaust
-well, you seem to know nothing about it-
not the right term to be used here

you indeed are a potential danger to other people
w/o your knowledge
me too

and I find it easy to accept
and act accordingly

I have a hard time to accept all this nonsense
by you guys who think differently

thanks @abdulbasit

1) I have no time to read through all of that
2) do you trust a .news? having not even a good keyword?
-I don't-
3) I have evidence from other sources, that masks offer great protection
4) I now heard, that even simple masks grant protection not only to others but to the owner, too.

to me it's obvious

and even if they don't protect
( which is unlikely )
I can see no harm in giving it a try

I once worked a couple of months spraying crops in Sydney in humid 35-40C heat.
I was wearing one of these masks and an agri spray suit.
These masks can be quite physically draining if worn for extended periods of time.
Make sure you get the correct filters!

the trick is fixing the metal part on top of the nose
in a way that it doesn't leak

I went to the dentist today - she was wearing two masks - one n95 under a surgical mask, which IMO would seem sufficient.

This article was sent to me re face masks and a ranking of the various types of masks, best on down.

https://www.komando.com/coronavirus...ium=nl&utm_source=notd&utm_content=2020-08-12

We use the second top ranked mask because the top ranked mask is near to almost impossible to acquire in any quantity.

Thought it was a pretty good article about masks, testing and might be interesting or useful to some here/

Yeah, never seems to work for my nose.
I'm just using the medical disposables - it's more about protecting others than myself.
I've heard that wiping an oil or anti-fog solution works, so must give that a try :)

I just checked, yup, mine has a one-way valve so no go. I'm flying cross country this week, so rather concerned. I figure I otta be okay with two layer masks (n95 under surgical).

I find if I tie a knot in the ear straps (on a surgical mask) into an open hook, slipped on to my eye glasses arms prevents irritation behind ears for extended wear. :brb:

Duke University Face Masks Study: Which Work the Best?

The study found that the most effective mask when it comes to reducing the transmission of respiratory droplets was the professionally fitted, non-valved N95. Three-layer surgical masks and cotton masks were quite effective as well. Surprisingly, a few masks were found to be quite ineffective, specifically folded bandanas and knitted masks. Valved N95 masks also “decrease protection of persons surrounding the wearer” because of “the exhalation valve, which opens for strong outwards airflow.”

People are cutting their socks to use as face masks.
That's probably not a good idea!

There's a shortage of decent masks here in Australia and around the world, and a recent Tik Tok video has gotten people re-purposing their (clean) socks as masks.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-14/tik-tok-sock-face-mask-trend-wont-protect-from-coronavirus/12550778

IMO, Tik Tok videos should come with a disclaimer stating "I am not a health expert."

Our governor said if you don't have a mask, you can use a bike helmet. Ha!

We should be happy that the World has now moved from whether to wear Masks or not to debating as to what kind of Masks are better to wear, I believe that that's a big improvement in people's mindsets and attitude.

I'm sitting in an airport surrounded by a sea of masks. Interesting to see the plethora of designs. Last time I flew in March, I was only one of two passengers that I saw with a mask on. People looked at me very strangely then, and now it's mandatory on flights.
