Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

According to the article, 38 adult volunteers, who participated in clinical trials, experienced 141 side effects.

This sounds pretty scary, especially if it's only been tested on 38 people.

Lenexa company receives FDA approval for COVID-19 saliva test

LENEXA, Kan. — Clinical Reference Laboratory in Lenexa is joining the fight to combat COVID-19.

"Last night (Thursday) we got approval for our saliva based COVID test," said Robert Thompson, chief executive officer at Clinical Reference Laboratory. "This is an at-home collective test where you literally just spit into a tube and mail it into the laboratory."

Once a sample arrives, the lab will test it. Thompson said results are given within 24-48 hours via their app.

"We've automated the process so that it's really a matter of having the equipment online and most of it is run by robots that are supervised by professionals," Thompson said

This could be a solution to the problem of inadequate testing and slow results. The company is able to perform 20,000 tests a day and hopes to increase that to 50,000 per day.

Scientists See Signs of Lasting Immunity to Covid-19, Even After Mild Infections

Scientists who have been monitoring immune responses to the virus are now starting to see encouraging signs of strong, lasting immunity, even in people who developed only mild symptoms of Covid-19, a flurry of new studies suggests. Disease-fighting antibodies, as well as immune cells called B cells and T cells that are capable of recognizing the virus, appear to persist months after infections have resolved — an encouraging echo of the body’s enduring response to other viruses.

Although researchers cannot forecast how long these immune responses will last, many experts consider the data a welcome indication that the body’s most studious cells are doing their job — and will have a good chance of fending off the coronavirus, faster and more fervently than before, if exposed to it again.

A new strain of the novel coronavirus that is ten times deadlier has been detected in Malaysia. Existing studies on vaccines might be ineffective against the mutation.
https://ca.style.yahoo.com/worse-come-malaysia-detects-coronavirus-061800712.html

It may be a long battle with the coronavirus...
And this is why I never go to Yahoo to check the news. That's a completely joke source of news.
If you make a search to contrast this news, you will see that the article is about a Facebook post, where the "Director General of Health of Malaysia" talks about a "mutation" that is "10 times easier to infect other individuals and spread easily".
So, in my undestanding, it's a "little" difference, between "deadlier" and "easier to infect, or spread easily".
But of course, for Yahoo is very normal to replace "easier to spread" for "deadlier".

Another Coronavirus Casualty: Florida Tourism

The decline of tourism has had a profound impact on Florida's economy. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector. The cratering of tourism is also hurting state and local governments that depend on sales and hotel tax revenues. Florida's Office of Economic and Demographic Research says sales tax revenues were down $1.6 billion from projections, largely because of the decline of tourism.

Although cases of the coronavirus are now declining in Florida, tourism officials have said it may take years for the industry to rebound. Demand for hotel roomsremains at less than half of what it was this time last year. Although theme parks have reopened, they've seen low attendance, below the limits set to allow for social distancing. Disney World announced its reducing hours at its parks next month. And Universal Orlando recently told guests it will be temporarily closing two of its hotels and moving their bookings to other properties at the resort.
