Hi, wondering if anyone can chime in on where might be a good place to use to buy a domain from someone and stay completely anonymous to the seller (and keep the whois private) throughout the sales process? I'm thinking about using a broker through escrow.com (as the buyer), but does anyone have any experience or advice about this process of trying to keep all of my info private while buying a domain from someone in a private party sale? TIA

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Why?
And why would the seller cares who you are?
I sold thousand of names and I don't really care who the buyer is.

Thanks, but in my case, I do want to stay completely anonymous from the specific individual I am trying to buy from. Just imagine I'm someone who needs to stay completely private during this process.

I don't want any info to leak about myself during me buying the domain from them. Are there any sites (e.g. escrow.com, sedo.com, etc) that anyone can recommend which will make this possible?

Not Escrow or Sedo.
Use a private broker so the name can be transferred to the private broker account. Then he/she will transfer the name to you to complete the transaction.

I was thinking about using a broker with Escrow to try to achieve this, but is there somewhere else you can recommend to get a broker to facilitate this?

How much is the name worth?

How much is the name worth?

I guess it depends on who you ask : ), but those online valuation things (like estibot) say between 10-15k (though I personally think it's worth quite a bit more).

I found a link on this site about selling and staying anonymous, but nothing about buying (it won't let me post the link into this thread though).

Depends on a critical piece of missing info. Is it a MakeOffer listing, or you are acquiring at the BuyNow price?

Go to Godaddy.com.
Choose Domains
Select Domain Broker
$50 fee plus 20% commission (assuming being anonymous is that important)
Whois can be changed to private after domain is transferred.

If domain is listed with a BUY it Now price at Godaddy the seller typically has no interaction with the buyer and the buyer can ask for private registration.

Try reaching out to @Rob Monster or someone else at epik...they might be able to help. Several employees are active here.

I should have specified this more clearly. I just cold emailed the email address that is listed under the whois (with a dummy email address) and asked if they would sell. So it's very much a private party sale, but I just need someplace that can facilitate this and keep my info private.

I was actually debating on using either Epik or Escrow, but wasn't sure if either could keep all of my info completely anonymous. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you have reached a price agreement with the seller, you can tell them to list it for the agreed BuyItNow price at Afternic (Godaddy company) and you will then be able to buy directly at Godaddy and Afternic. You can also use Godaddy broker to buy it as mentioned by @garptrader above. For Afternic/Godaddy BuyItNow purchase, the seller will have to pay 20% commission. For Godaddy broker, you will have to pay 20% commission plus a $70 fee. I believe Godaddy/Afternic don't share buyer info with the seller. You can ask @Joe Styler from Godaddy/Afternic for any concerns you may have.

I believe Epik will also be able to facilitate an 'anonymized' transaction, for a low commission. You can also reach Epik staff here for details.

You can also use a reliable private broker and ask for anonymity.

I'm going to look into Epik, thanks for the suggestions.
