Revered domain investors!

Please take a split second to answer this poll so that we can try to evaluate the magnitude of the unfair competition created by discriminate selection for granting users GoDaddy API access.

The GoDaddy auctions API looks like a nice tool to have when investing in domain names. Some have access to this nice tool, which is designed to simplify auction purchases at GoDaddy. Wonderful! Others are denied it and their businesses are struggling to compete. Not so wonderful. And not so fair.

In my case, I have been denied access around 10 times during a long period of time. The explanations have ranged from the instability of the system to covert and uncalled for allegations of possible abuse. (Which in itself is a description of a flawed system.)

The issue is not new. It has existed since GoDaddy stopped granting access years back. Something @DomainVP has tried to draw attention to here https://www.namepros.com/threads/the-disgusting-godaddy-auctions-api-issue.1186700/

I think that this is a real problem that highlights an unduly perpetuated unfair competition, and I would like GoDaddy to pause and reopen when they have a service that can be offered to everyone that have a proven daily need for it.

Without some sort of documentation it is always hard to make a case. So please take the poll.

Because surely it can not be the case that the market leading registrar beloved domain investor community, particularly the investors that are in growth mode, are really not that important at all in the bigger scheme of things?

Thank you.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Asked a few times over the last year. Always some excuse or another. The latest blaming it on covid....classy GD classy.🙄

Hello Ryan,
Thank you for contacting Aftermarket support, and I apologize for the mix-up. Unfortunately, we are not currently adding new API accounts, as we are in the middle of a complete system rebuild. We hope to offer API sometime in the future, although I it will not be in 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for contacting GoDaddy Aftermarket.

Unfortunately, we are still working on adding the new API accounts. We hope we will offer this service, however we believe it will be not available until Q2 (summer) 2020 at the earliest.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hello Ryan,

Due to the global pandemic, that has been placed on hold. The last I heard from the development team, it would not be in 2020. I honestly do not know when we will be able to offer new API accounts to our customer base. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this Covid situation has caused a lot of our plans to be delayed.

I'm sure come 2021 they'll have a new excuse...

Side note, same problem over at NameJet but at least they don't make up an excuse and just flat out tell you that you don't spend enough money with them to get it.

Godaddy discriminates,

Not “privileged” enough

I voted What is API? (even though I sort of know :xf.wink:) as the best response for me. I am not involved enough to need or request it so voting no seemed to give wrong impression. I do agree that it seems unfair for some to have API access and some not. Thank you for starting the poll, @trelgor - hopefully enough will vote to make the results significant.

What's the update on Godaddy and the API, did they get rid of it or are they going to level the playing field and allow us all access?

Still there. Still the same. I feel that the GD stance is pretty much ”Oh, let’s wait another decade or two before we decide to think about this.”

@Paul Nicks answered it in interview

Q6) API access for bidding on auctions, is it open to anyone? I have read conflicting reports on Namepros and would love to know if you can clarify?

It’s not open to everyone right now because we’re rebuilding it as part of an overarching Auctions re-build. Once we have it available then it’ll be live for anyone with an Auctions acct to sign up and use. The existing one is very limited and isn’t able to handle the load of many users.
