Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Oh, I see...

This is a very important read if you know anyone suffering from macular degeneration.

I've never heard of the term 'complement' in relation to the immune system. Thanks for the interesting read.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complement_system

The complement system, also known as complement cascade, is a part of the immune system that enhances (complements) the ability of antibodies and phagocytic cells to clear microbes and damaged cells from an organism, promote inflammation, and attack the pathogen's cell membrane. It is part of the innate immune system, which is not adaptable and does not change during an individual's lifetime. The complement system can, however, be recruited and brought into action by antibodies generated by the adaptive immune system.

It was odd how I came across that article...I was researching for a completely unrelated domain for a friend.

It has info I had not heard before and thought it might be helpful for someone in encouraging a friend and/or family member that suffers from macular degeneration to be a little more vigilant re masks/distancing/sanitizing.

'It's just madness': bikers throng South Dakota town despite Covid threat

At least 100,000 people are expected to attend the 10-day annual Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota’s Black Hills from Friday, as opportunities for the local economy have overridden concerns it could become a coronavirus superspreading event.
This year is the 80th anniversary of the event that in normal years sees upward of 500,000 motorcycle enthusiasts descend on the small town of Sturgis and the surrounding area. The rally injects $800m into South Dakota’s economy.
Local authorities expected fewer people to attend this year, and before the event halved the number of vendors allowed to participate.
Yet on Friday, a worker at the event told the Guardian the crowd seemed larger than in previous years – and warned that Sturgis attendees were paying little heed to medical advice.

Looks like there's going to be a huge spike in infections in South Dakota in a month or so.

I'm afraid the gathering this year will result in spikes in many areas once the participants return home. I finally had an opportunity to go this year but opted out (of course). This will likely be known as the, or one of the, biggest super-spreader events of the year.

Here are a couple rally links: https://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/ https://sturgis.com/

Duke researchers put masks, face coverings to the test

"The bandana face-covering did not do well in the study. The researchers said it may look fashionable, but it did very little for protection."

https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/duke-researchers-put-masks-face-coverings-to-the-test/19225401/
Well, anyone who is taking this pandemic and public health seriously, should use a cloth mask, a surgical one, or a N95.

The bandana face covering is just too thin.

"The cloth masks were pretty good," said Duke Dr. Eric Westman, an internal medicine physican. "They were pretty well. They blocked most of the particles."

"The mask that stood out by far is the N95, the true fitted N95 mask," Fischer said.

Fischer also said surgical masks "did a really good job."

"Mostly propaganda." :xf.laugh::xf.laugh::xf.laugh: You literally posted Covid information from a Flat Earth site in the other thread.

And the other stuff you posted (cigs, alcohol, auto accidents) has nothing to with Taiwan Covid death. You couldn't deal with a logical explanation to your question, so you call it propaganda, then started talking about other stuff.

I have Compassion on Ignore, but I still sometimes catch some of what he says before I sign in. I don't know which he's worse at - bad lying, or bad critical thinking.

No need for panic people.

No panic here...just rational, intelligent people exchanging thoughts, news and information that will allow for making personal decisions regarding any precautions or preparations they may feel is necessary.

It took the world 6 months to see its first 10 million cases of Covid. It only took 45 days to add another 10 million cases.

Previous vaccines and masks may hold down Covid-19, some researchers say

"When we looked in the setting of Covid disease, we found that people who had prior vaccinations with a variety of vaccines -- for pneumococcus, influenza, hepatitis and others -- appeared to have a lower risk of getting Covid disease," Dr. Andrew Badley, an infectious disease specialist at Mayo Clinic told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Monday night.
It's what immunologists call immune training: how your immune system creates an effective response to fight off infections, Badley says.

Asian countries have mandated BCG vaccine for children for decades now. In one way, is that the reason for low fatality rates vs population strength?

That sounds plausible. It will be interesting to see what further studies reveal about this.
