I think Epik is building the best ever Domain Lander in the history of domaining, and it really needs to be talked about extensively. That's why I am creating this discussion thread. A lot of thought process really goes into the project. And I can see (for the first time) a landing page that is built from the stand point of domainers rather than for just the marketplace itself.

Everything you have ever dreamt of getting or seeing in a professional landing page can be found in the new Epik marketplace landing page design.

Some of my Favorites Features:

1. The ability to optimize your "domain for sale" landing page to actually rank on Google, displaying your sales pitch/domain description. I just did that with few of my generic domain names such as ASAP.TV, targeting certain keywords, and they are showing pretty well on Google. That's a huge plus in my marketing effort.

2. Being able to change background image is another huge one for me. If you are good with pictures and images, you will surely find this very useful. I did that with Nagasaki.org and the result was truly amazing, showing the city of Nagasaki right at the background.

There are too many positive features and I don't want to mention all of them, all alone :xf.grin::xf.grin:

So I am leaving you guys to share and discuss what you loves most or dislike about the new Epik marketplace and the landing pages.

The only negative for me is the checkout process. There are too many terms and conditions buttons to tick before checking out. It will be nice if they can streamline those into one beautiful big button :xf.cool:

They also need to place the checkout button directly under the payment options. Right now it is awkwardly place somewhere below at the sidebar, which I don't find cool at all.

Sales experience is also welcomed in this discussion. I haven't had any sells so far at Epik because I started using the marketplace just recently, but the future is looking so bright.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I too like the look of masterbucks...it would be helpful if the pdf could be made clickable when looking at an invoice/expenditure.

Also, I will add that the timeout after logging in (at FedId or Epik) is much too fast. Can it be adjusted by the user? If I am researching a name it could take over 15 mins easily...thus far I have had to log in over and over.

Masterbucks is great! I've been using income from my first lease option to buy more domains. Wonder if you can use Maserbucks at other places such as Godaddy and other marketplaces.

We do have plans for partner integrations, starting with parking companies who want to pay out parking revenue daily instead of monthly.

We also anticipate partner integrations with other domain marketplaces, e.g. to fund an account at another domain industry supplier.

However, already today Epik customers can buyer any Sedo or Afternic MLS name using their Epik Masterbucks and can do so without markup.

Definitely check out the new Masterbucks.com -- it is slick with more on the way.

I have asked engineering to review two things: (1) default session length, and (2) the option of staying logged in until you log out. I agree that will make the experience more frictionless especially when a user is bouncing between different services throughout the day.

Do they still charge like $35/yr for .com?

Although retail customers do pay a higher rate, NamePros members get domains at cost. Just contact our support team @epik and they will get you set up or PM any Epik rep. There are a number of them here.

Fantastic! The more partners, the better. Also, I understand Epik marks up MLS domains when you buy them at Epik.com, so are you saying I can use Masterbucks when checking out at Sedo.com and Afternic.com directly?

Bad experience with epik :
1) they are not ready to sell external domains during the icaan locked period.
2) have to transfer domain on epik when it's sold (takes much more time and $ than a simple push on the external registrar)

pro: good chat support

David, thanks for your comments. To the best of my knowledge, it's on engineer's agenda to automate External Sales of Locked Domains. These are tricky situations that need to be handled case by case as there's a few tricky points we need to watch out for, such as:
  • The buyer of said domain may not be willingly to receive the domain at the registrar the domain is with and would rather have it at Epik (most do prefer this way);
  • The registrar the domain is with may not allow internal pushes during the 60 day ICANN Lock Period;
As of right now we handle these situations manually and we can do an internal push if the domain is locked, eligible for internal pushes and the buyer agrees to it. Just reach out to us via [email protected].

Please shoot me a PM with your ticket # and I'll review it ASAP.

Downtime or maintenance???
Epik is not loading for me as of now...

This site can’t be reached
The webpage at https://www.epik.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR

p.s. No problems with domains parked on Epik, they work...

I'm not exactly sure how good Epik's drop catching abilities are but here's an experience I've just had.

Placed a backorder for a .tv domain with Epik.
I beat Epik's dropcatching service by manually refreshing and hand-regging the domain on Epik.

Can't log in, get a message saying change your password to activate your account ! Change my password before logging in !? That's safe then ! Activate my account that was already activated !

Just keep being told to clear the cache/cookies & it'll be fine, the issue is fixed ! Tried that multpile times, still being asked to update password !? Anyone any ideas !?

They shouldn't even be offering 'dropcatching' for anything besides .com. I have the same experience with .org domains. They miss the drop window and probably don't even try again within the hour.

I've mentioned it to them multiple times but it's not very high up on their to do list as it seems.

How's their .com dropcatching? Tried a few 4Ls but of course they lose to Dropcatch, trying a few others later.

Anything good will be lost to dropcatch, like you experienced. I haven't tried for 'just ok' domains but for domains where you competition are just domainers trying to catch them on the drop they should be ok.

It's a neat service for .coms as long as you have realistic expectations.

I've been using the Epik Dropcatch/Backordering service for awhile now with mixed results.

The reasons for using them are: It's cheap, easy to use, directly connected to my main Epik account & I really wanted to test it out.

After almost 400 backorders (I have some domains currently In Progress) I'd say it's still a work-in-progress and needs a lot of rethinking and additional resources to be ready for prime time. And before anyone thinks my criticism means I'm not a fan of Epik that would be wrong. Overall I really like Epik and I sincerely hope they take note of my criticism and fix these glaring problems.

I tried to backorder several different extensions but .com & .net where the ONLY 2 that they ever caught successfully. In fact every other extension just gets stuck in In Progress mode and never finishes so I was forced to cancel these backorders every time.

For me that's very irritating because these backorders disappear from the list which messes up the success ratio. To get the missing backorders I'm forced to use the transaction report to find them so I can figure out the success ratio.

So I'd say totally forget any other extension at least until they make some much needed improvements.

Also, and this is probably by far the most important short coming...

Epik's Drop catch system simply can't compete with the other systems and they can't be counted on to catch the very best domains.

I've yet to catch any domain I really wanted. If you really want to catch a really valuable domain it just won't happen with Epik so don't use them for any critical grabs.

I wish Epik was better at this but it's pretty clear they won't be competing with the big boys anytime soon. That's because the big boys have invested heavily in resources that allow them to always win and they usually do.

Here's a screenshot of my Epik Backorder csv report that I just generated from my new system.

Just sold a name on another venue. Since I bought it not that long ago I had to contact support to be able to expedite the transfer. Amy was superb, @Rob Monster approved and the domain was transferred instantly. Top notch!

It appears that Epik domain forwarding server at this time responds to both http and https requests.

Did Epik implement https forwarding as a part of DNS management service?

If there was no such intention (not a common service), then the forwarding server should stop responding to https requests, as it just causes browser warnings (certificate mismatch) for visitors who decided to visit forwarded domain using https.

However, if Epik started implementing this as a part of domain/dns management - then it can be only appreciated. A lot of traffic is lost if https is not forwarded. Epik might become the 1st registrar on the planet with such a service...

On my initial test:

- Epik did not yet obtain (auto)ssl certiciate for the domain I played (DNS+Forwarding) with, even though it points to Epik dns. It however added CAA records allowing letsencrypt to issues certs, so it may just a matter of time for the ssl forwarding to appear? Without ssl cert for the domain in question, browser obviously showed an error.

- Forwarding setup allows configuring forwarding to non-https destinations. Even though it is technically OK, some browsers under some security configurations would show a https warning or would not forward https in such cases at all (if https is forwarded to http). If I want to forward to http destionation (not https) - then the system should prompt me to opt-out from https forwarding.

- Forwarding setup allows wildcard (*) forwarding. In https case, it should be processed differently. Namely, even if we have a wildcard certificate (*.domain.com) obtained and there is * in DNS, then forwarding would work only for something.domain.com, but not for www.something.domain.com (extra subdomain). Wildcard ssl certificates do not cover "deep" subdomains.

The last but not the least, Epik DNS management section should be revised:

Clear comments about https forwarding?

Alias record did not work for naked domain (at least in my setup attempt).

One TXT record disappeared with no apparent reason, so I had to re-add it.

Forwarding setup suggests to select between three types of forwarding, and while the third type (masking) and second type (url) are obvious and in common use, the 1st type (Epik calls it simply "domain forward") is not too obvious... how is it different from url forwarding?

Anybody knows if there is a way to delete Forwarding in bulk or do we have to do it for each domain individually. If that's the case it will take a long time to make any changes to Forwarding when it's for more than just couple of domains.

IMO

I was just looking into this myself and about to go to either plan "B" the API or plan "C" something outside the box :)

Why this internal redirect chain (additional unnecessary redirects)???
See screenshot... I just set Epik forwarding per this domain...
On subdomains it must be the same as on root, just instant redirect to the assigned destination...

After redirect to Epik main page via Affiliate URL - AffID is displayed in the address bar...
It is better to not show it... just cookie is enough...
Was asked in January...
Still not fixed.
