What’s your name?
A: Mark

Where do you live?
A: New Jersey/New York depending on the day :)

What’s your level of expertise?
novice, intermediate, expert, etc.
A: Super novice, just starting out.

How much experience do you have in the domain industry?
years, experience, etc.
A: As of today, a solid one week.

What would you like to specifically learn first?
how to buy a domain, domain history, best selling strategies, government policies, etc.
A: Ideally, the best selling strategies. Buying the domains is the relatively easy part, its selling them that seems tough.

Are you currently working on any projects or ideas?
A: I am working to develop my website, fyredomain, in order to be able to list my websites up for sale and hopefully enter this field head first.

What are your short-term goals in the next year?
A: Ideally, I would want to get to the point of selling roughly 1-2 domains per month, although that is very optimistic.

What are your long-term goals in the next 5 years?
A: I would hope that in the next 5 years I can see whether or not domaining is truly for me. If it is, I would want to be invested in this fully and ideally run a team of individuals who can help me with this full time. Regardless, if everything goes well, I wish to use this as a job and functioning company.

What was your first domain you purchased?
A: Long story :)

Why did you start investing in domains? Please tell us the story.
A: I recently started working in marketing, and after seeing first hand the process by which a company spends thousands to buy a domain, I decided that I wanted to give it a try. I heard about this before but I never really bothered to dive deep into at as I never had the resources until now. Looking forward to learning all I can here and seeing where this new path takes me! Thank you guys for all of your kind words and support in the week I've been a member of these forums.

Hi @Mark Umansky .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

Working in marketing should give you a huge head start with domains. There's still a lot to learn and figure out, but having a good grasp of marketing will make a big difference. Take time to read all the corners of NamePros .. then also check out the blogs and podcasts! :)

What sorts of domains did you see bough/sold? What sort of price range? (List a few if you're allowed .. lol)

Anyhow .. best of luck to you on your journey forward! :)

Thank you for the kind words everyone! I haven't been here long but I can see already that this seems like a very welcoming community, so I look forward to talking with all of you guys in the future! I'll check out that thread shortly @J Sokol, thanks! And @Ategy.com, though I can't be too specific :) the domains were mostly in the healthcare industry. Seeing the boss hand over several thousand for a domain name (which in my opinion was practically worthless) really got me thinking about this and honestly served as the push to get me into this.

re your: "I would hope that in the next 5 years I can see whether or not domaining is truly for me."

WHEN we are truly open to seeing the results of an experiment (like a true scientist is) we have already succeeded - because we can see things just as they are, not as we hope they are.

Actually, seeing things as they are (true observation) is the greatest skill a domainer can have.
