Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Here you can see too some photos of people wearing face masks for the 1918 pandemic. 100 years ago people already knew the importance of face masks to stop the virus spread.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/03/us/mask-protests-1918.html

By the fall of 1918, seven cities — San Francisco, Seattle, Oakland, Sacramento, Denver, Indianapolis and Pasadena, Calif. — had put in effect mandatory face mask laws, said Dr. Howard Markel, a historian of epidemics and the author of “Quarantine!

By the end of October, there were more than 60,000 cases statewide, with 7,000 of them in San Francisco. It soon became known as the “masked city.”

“The Mask Ordinance,” signed by Mayor James Rolph on Oct. 22, made San Francisco the first American city to require face coverings, which had to be four layers thick.

Mask court

The penalty for violators was $5 to $10, or 10 days’ imprisonment.

Jail terms of 8 hours to 10 days
were given out.

By the end of 1918, the death toll from influenza had reached at least 244,681, mostly in the last four months, according to government statistics.

Well, I guess that was the self made Personal protective equipment (PPE) 100 years ago. They made it with what they had, but the purpose was the same... protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garments or equipment designed to protect the wearer's body from injury or infection.

U.S., state of Kansas
I'm just looking at the graphs for Kansas now.
It looks like your state is also going through a second wave, but hopefully getting towards the end of it.
I hope you stay safe!

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/15/how-taiwan-beat-the-coronavirus.html

How Taiwan beat the coronavirus

“There was easy access to almost free and rapid testing centers,” said Han Jin, founder of a start-up in Taiwan called LucidPix. “At every building, including restaurants, gyms and offices, they check your temperature — and you cannot enter without face masks.”

There’s also enforcement for those who don’t follow the rules. There are huge fines if people are caught not wearing masks in designated areas, such as the subway, and for breaking quarantine.

Social pressure also plays a part. Jin said that it’s become part of the culture in Taiwan to name and shame those who are not wearing masks in the subway or are breaking quarantine early. Those who do so might see their face pop up on a social media app.

Getting ahead of mask shortages

As countries around the world feared they would run out of essential supplies, including masks, Taiwanese citizens used their national health insurance cards to purchase their allotment of masks.

..Shu noted that in addition to ramping up production, the government also introduced software tools, including maps with real-time updates about mask inventory nearby.

In resume, Taiwan took VERY SERIOUSLY from the very first second the USE OF FACE MASKS.

Mostly propaganda.

Perhaps the healthcare of Taiwan is superior to the good ol' USA? After all Taiwan ranks much higher in quality of care. USA is dead last among first world countries.

Could it be true that more people die of pneumonia or influenza or cigarettes or alcohol or auto accidents (all individually) than the invisible enemy? (Data says yes.)

"Mostly propaganda." :xf.laugh::xf.laugh::xf.laugh: You literally posted Covid information from a Flat Earth site in the other thread.

And the other stuff you posted (cigs, alcohol, auto accidents) has nothing to with Taiwan Covid death. You couldn't deal with a logical explanation to your question, so you call it propaganda, then started talking about other stuff.

Study suggests embryos could be susceptible to coronavirus

Genes that are thought to play a role in how the SARS-CoV-2 virus infects our cells have been found to be active in embryos as early as during the second week of pregnancy, say scientists at the University of Cambridge and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The researchers say this could mean embryos are susceptible to COVID-19 if the mother gets sick, potentially affecting the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Serum Institute to price Covid-19 vaccine at $3 per dose for India and lower middle income nations

Mumbai: Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by volume has capped the price of Covid-19 vaccine at $3 per dose for low and middle income countries, including India as part of a new partnership with Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
