Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

The device might be similar to an ion (ozone) generator, bound particles (dust, pollution, germs) coalesce, become heavier and drop. An Ion generator with hepa filter and UV light will help clean indoor air. I use them, just not sure how effective they are against Covid-19.

I understand the theory behind ionizer and UV light (radiation), but the principle as is explained in these articles... it's not physics as I understand it.

Edit: I'm referring to the physics described in the articles about the 'carona canon'

Birx warns US is 'in a new phase' of coronavirus pandemic with more widespread cases

A new ensemble forecast, published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, projects more than 173,000 American deaths by August 22, and former US Food and Drug Administrator Dr. Scott Gottlieb warned on CNBC last month that the coronavirus death toll could double to 300,000 deaths by the end of the year, if the country doesn't change its trajectory.

People wore masks during Spanish Flu, 100 years ago.

And despite the threat of the flu, fans turned out at Georgia Tech. The photo that accompanies this story is of an undetermined 1918 Georgia Tech home game that was taken by a student, Thomas Carter, who graduated in the 1920s with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. It’s clear that the vast majority of the spectators in the photo were wearing masks in what published reports said was the peak of the flu in October and November.

Mandated Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination predicts flattened curves for the spread of COVID-19

Abstract
BCG vaccination may reduce the risk of a range of infectious diseases, and if so, it could serve as a protective factor against COVID-19. Here, we compared countries that mandated BCG vaccination at least until 2000 with countries that did not. To minimize any systematic effects of reporting biases, we analyzed the rate of the day-by-day increase in both confirmed cases (135 countries) and deaths (134 countries) in the first 30-day period of country-wise outbreaks. The 30-day window was adjusted to begin at the country-wise onset of the pandemic. Linear mixed models revealed a significant effect of mandated BCG policies on the growth rate of both cases and deaths after controlling for median age, gross domestic product per capita, population density, population size, net migration rate, and various cultural dimensions (e.g., individualism). Our analysis suggests that mandated BCG vaccination can be effective in the fight against COVID-19.

My direct ancestor on my fathers side of the family (grandfather) died at the age of 26 during that pandemic. He left behind two sons with one on the way (his wife was 4 months pregnant). There are several fascinating books with pictures and facts available with stats and information. Yep, masks were an essential part of stopping the spread...even 100 years ago that basic fact was understood.

Stability of SARS-CoV-2 in different environmental conditions

No infectious virus could be recovered from printing and tissue papers after a 3-hour incubation, whereas no infectious virus could be detected from treated wood and cloth on day 2. By contrast, SARS-CoV-2 was more stable on smooth surfaces. No infectious virus could be detected from treated smooth surfaces on day 4 (glass and banknote) or day 7 (stainless steel and plastic). Strikingly, a detectable level of infectious virus could still be present on the outer layer of a surgical mask on day 7 (∼0·1% of the original inoculum).

I now walk around with a pocketful of tissues. From this study, it looks like I may be able to save them for re-use the next day.

I think it may sadly go even higher than the 300,000 prediction.

I agree. I keep reading about large parties where attendees don't wear masks or social distance. How many deaths does it take for people to wake up?

I live in Australia, and I don't know if you heard about our state of Victoria. It started from a quarantine hotel a couple of months ago, and there were a minority of people who would not conform to stop the outbreak. On Sunday evening the Government decided enough was enough, and introduced stay at home orders and a curfew for the next six weeks. Essentially a total lockdown.

We thought that we had this beat three months ago...

Yes, I remember commenting on that early in this thread. Sorry to hear about the latest outbreak.

I'm expecting a return to "Phase 2" in my county any day, as the cases numbers have not been contained. People don't seem to understand the concept of six feet.

We have been very lucky to date with only 200 deaths nationwide, but I fear it will start climbing because it is now in our aged nursing homes.
