How do you manage domains?

google-sheets, as well as excel workbook, is what you require. but, if you have a small portfolio - you can skip this step. And, just follow the data at the registrar itself. And, pay attention to emails from the registrar. Keep minimum number of registrars preferably under 5 is also helps in simplifying.

While I'm a pretty good name picker, I really don't manage my domains. I own about 1,000 domains half of which are registered at GD and the other half at Epik. I neither have the time or desire to manage them myself and that's why I'm seeking a partner with technical and organizational skills far superior to mine.

I use to own some real estate/ rental properties and at times I would have a "Property Manager" who would help to manage my properties. It seems to me there's a great opportunity for someone to be a "Domain Manager"......where are you

Keeping track is a no brainer - not just from accounting perspective, but also from having an overall view of one's holdings.

Excel for me.

These are the tabs:

1) php dashboard to track amounts : spent, revenues, benefits (for every patterns I buy)

2) php+api (or csv import file for service which dont have api) to add/edit/delete domains

3) php+csv for parking domains (renew decision)

No need to tell us which brand you use. This isn't a M$ sales platform so far as I am aware.

I use a spreadsheet. Not a proprietary one but I'd back its capabilities against the one most mentioned here, and against the biggest constraint on free trade which was the second one mentioned.

Monopoly is akin to feudalism and fiefdom, not capitalism. Spurn it. Capitalism is about competition and innovation. Monopoly is its antithesis. It is as extreme as communism and fascism.

I am actually new to this too, have about 10 domains for a start. Aside from listing them in a private Excel file, I found it helpful to list them all in Afternic as domains for sale. They will provide you a site with your special link which you can share so prospects can see your portfolio in 1 page. And they can buy any of your domains from that page.

This is actually very useful because, I just started domaining seriously.
Have been buying great domains since 10 years but not to sell the domain to others but as a collector.

Since i started this seriously since the past 2 months i bought 1000+ Domains and finding it hard to keep track.

Any suggestions folks. ??

Like a single place, it has been real confusing keeping track of marketplaces, registrars .. etc.

That's one option but it's stored onine and if your account is compromised...
There are other options like MSoffice, OpenOffice(Apache) etc.
So I export my lists from registrars, import them into a speadsheet, and organise them using tabs.
I've found that you really need two screens (one large - 50inch tv) to see and use them effectively as I have a lot of columns of information and notes.

That would be a big issue for me next year as i expect them to be close to 10000...

You can choose what data to export then import into your spreadsheet.
I export/import the expiry/renewal dates, DNS info etc and try and keep that updated

I should point out that it is not always a clean import. Sometimes I have to clean or bulk edit data in textpad or another utility, sometimes i need to manually fiddle with data in the spreadsheet. It can be a headache to start with, but the end result is very useful, and can be stored on a memory stick.

I am almost at 6000 names total.

While I do export lists from time to time for various reasons, I don't create any particular spreadsheets.

I use my registrar web panel for keeping track of things. Since 95% of all names are with GD, that works fine. I also have the rest split between Epik and DD mostly and often consolidate back to GD for ease of management.

I don't keep track of the cost of acquisition etc. I can just search in my email to find that data if I need it (mostly I don't). And don't feel any need to keep track of valuations, extensions regged etc.

Eventually, I will have a custom script built that will pull all the relevant data and also spit out actionable guidance. But until then don't see reason to spend more time with this.

My portfolio:
I own around 160+ domains. Few .Com and most of one word or two word exact match/keyword premium .Co names.

Before Acquiring names:
I gather as much data as I can about the possible domain names in Microsoft Excel. I look after past sales, comparison sales for that specific keyword and industry niche. Godaddy and Epik Appraisal. I primarily use NameBio.

After Acquisition:
1. I add that name in my portfolio excel. Columns are, Domain name, invoice number, date of purchase, date of expiry, Registered email, Registrar, BIN price, Sales amount, profit % Etc

2. I list my name on Godaddy Auctions. Then I add them in Afternic (via sync from the same Godaddy account)

3. Then I change nameservers and put up a lander using DAN with BIN.

4. Then I register names on Epik platform.

After Sales:

A. I makes the sales entry in excel, I calculate profits and add notes about the sales experience, time and commission fees

B. I immediately remove listings from other platform

Hope this information helps you. I have been learning a lot from fellow domain investors on this platform. Hope you find my information resourceful.

When you have more than 1000 domain names, you could manage them conveniently and quickly. When you have more than 3000 domain names, you have to set up your own website to manage them. If you have more than 8000 domain names, you have to hire someone to help you. That's it.

I use NameSilo's Domain Link Manager. Its good enough for sorting and most of the important data like creation date, expiry date, registrar, etc.are filled automatically once you add domains and it also sends automated email alerts when domains come near expiry.

I believe even with 100k names you could manage fine by yourself using auto-renewals and maybe a little custom script.

Hiring someone to manage names for you could also pose security issues.
