Any outbound prospect does not need your domain. You are contacting them because you need money to pay renewal bills. They were managing ok without your domain. Most end users do not place much value on domain names and will settle for reg fee options and then spend many thousands of dollars on SEO services, Google Adwords, lead generation programs, and all kinds of traditional marketing - billboards, radio, TV, etc to make up for an inferior domain. They just don't get it but that is why we were able to more easily acquire domains. There are a relatively limited number of individuals registering domains for resale. However, with all the extensions available end users now find it much easier to come up with reg fee options without having to consider aftermarket domains. Yes at an aggregate level there are sales but industrywide it is likely less than one percent annually of the average portfolio. Implications - don't keep renewing low-quality domains. Don't load up on domains with premium renewals. Be realistic about sales prices because there are fewer end user buyers than we are led to believe by sales reports.
