My formative years were in the eighties and I always thought those years had the best music. But I am thourghorly convinced that today we have the best music. Here is a list why.

Godfathers of progressive rock:

Genesis - especially Peter Gabriel years
Yes
Led Zeppelin
King Crimson

Current active masters of progressive rock:

Spock's Beard
Devin Townsend
Sons of Apollo
The Neal Morse Band
Flying Colors
Dream Theater

You can check them out on YouTube. I'm sure I'm missing other bands. As an amateur musician I am amazed at the level of the quality of their work.

I will leave you with a masterful rendition of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir by Sons of Apollo.

Here is a beautiful song performed by 2 incredible bands. Orchard of Mines.

The original is by Globus. It is a conglomerate of musicians that perform for major Hollywood instrumental productions.

The second is by Asia. Although it has alternated band members, the original line-up is made up of progressive rock legends. They reunited for the album Phoenix. RIP John Wetton (vocals and bass guitar).

Both versions are unique to each band's style and uniquely inspiring.

Listen to them before YouTube takes them down. LOL
