Brad Mugford is a domain investor who runs DataCube.com. DataCube.com is the 68th oldest domain name ever registered. I interviewed Brad back in 2012, and now 8 years later Brad was kind enough to do another interview. How has his portfolio changed? How has his approach changed in an ever more crowded space? Interview 1) […]

:)

There are many parts of the website that could certainly use updating.

I also own many domains that are still not listed on there.

Awesome interview. Great job, both. Thanks to Brad for the insight.

My takeaway was question and response on niches that are overvalued and over hyped, specifically the "new investor trap". Totally agree.

Still though, nothing on the history of the name "DataCube"- and how it came to be. Would love to see it touched on sometime!

Good stuff.

Lol, I agree. He touched upon the subject a while ago when I asked him but I have no clue on what thread that was. I'm sure he will elaborate a bit more on that now that you mentioned it :)

Good interview . Thanks. Only gtld Domains like life.insurance as he says in his examples does make sense but like he says variable prices for renewal makes the gtlds a lot more undesirable. Even from a beginners perspective who’s learning big by bit here and there, only .coms have a reliable sale at the end of the day.

Hi

I've been following Brads posts since I started domaining, over various platforms.

so, Great job, Ray!
and thanks to @bmugford for sharing his thoughts and experiences over those years.
his replies always come from a common sense perspective, which are based on facts and proven sales.

imo...

If Brad's so smart why doesn't he even have SSL setup on his website

Valid point. It is basically just a portfolio site that does not capture any sensitive user data.

Like I said the website itself has not been updated in awhile, but it is on my to do list.

Thanks,
Brad
