In January, at a restaurant in Guangzhou, China, one diner infected with the novel coronavirus but not yet feeling sick appeared to have spread the disease to nine other people. One of the restaurant’s air-conditioners apparently blew the virus particles around the dining room.

“We conclude that in this outbreak, droplet transmission was prompted by air-conditioned ventilation,” the authors wrote. “The key factor for infection was the direction of the airflow.”

However, none of the staff or other diners in restaurant X were infected. Moreover, the smear samples from the air conditioner were all nucleotide negative. This finding is less consistent with aerosol transmission. However, aerosols would tend to follow the airflow, and the lower concentrations of aerosols at greater distances might have been insufficient to cause infection in other parts of the restaurant.

Well, I guess those tiny droplets were airborne all over the restaurant and the bus, just following the air direction.

Spain's large-scale study on the coronavirus indicates just 5% of its population has developed antibodies, strengthening evidence that a so-called herd immunity to Covid-19 is "unachievable," the medical journal the Lancet reported on Monday.

The findings show that 95% of Spain's population remains susceptible to the virus. Herd immunity is achieved when enough of a population has become infected with a virus or bacteria -- or vaccinated against it -- to stop its circulation.

The novel coronavirus can live for days on animal skin, according to researchers from the biggest US military bioweapons laboratory.
In Fort Detrick, Maryland, army researchers tested the virus on the surface of various substances, including uncirculated paper currency supplied by the US Secret Service and unused cotton-polyester fabric, according to a non-peer-reviewed paper posted on the preprint site medRxiv.org on Friday.

They found that of the samples, the virus could survive the longest at room temperature on pig skin – up to four days. And it remained stable on the skin in refrigerated temperatures throughout the two-week experiment.

Australia Closes Interstate Border Because Of Coronavirus Outbreak

The border between Australian states Victoria and New South Wales will close because of a spike in coronavirus cases, officials announced on Monday.

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said the closure is for an undetermined period.

Victoria, whose capital city is Melbourne, has logged 127 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, which accounts for more than 90% of Australia's infections during that period, according to national data.

I could not find the word "unachievable" in Lancet. This is all I could find that mentioned herd immunity. Quote from article from Lancet:

"At present, herd immunity is difficult to achieve without accepting the collateral damage of many deaths in the susceptible population and overburdening of health systems. "

And that is why the susceptible population should remain in isolation until herd immunity is achieved. But the rest of the population needs to go back to work. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail, and doctors are hammers. They would happily let us all starve to death locked in our homes.

And this Lancet quote says why herd immunity is achievable:

"Seroprevalence was close to 90% after 14 days since a positive PCR test, which is consistent with a recent study concluding that SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies are detected in more than 90% of infected people 2 weeks after symptom onset,29 and the recently reported 99% of antibody response among confirmed COVID-19 cases.30 For the few patients who do not develop antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, it is unknown whether they are susceptible to reinfection.29, 31, 32 Prevalence in those participants reporting negative
PCR was higher than in those without a PCR test, which might be explained by delayed PCR testing that yields a negative result or by imperfect sensitivity of PCR tests."

This morning I had to pick up a few parts for an old Ford truck I am preparing with oversize tires, cattle guard, etc and I was shocked at the people not wearing masks. In this state, county and city they are mandated. As we know, it is to protect others when we wear a mask.

I overheard the clerk telling one couple (maybe related, maybe married or both) that the store policy is to wear one. They had a few expletives for the poor guy and he was so shocked he could not get an immediate reply out. So I let them know it is like someone being a drunk driver...if you, as a drunk driver, want to drive into a tree in your own yard that is okay with me. But you do not have the right to be on the highway driving drunk and endangering the lives of others...that why we as a society are working together by wearing masks.

This moron turns and gets in my face...I let him know I felt threatened and I would only warn him once to step back...also told him if he touched me I would react accordingly. He called me a few names, grabbed his sister/wife and stormed out, knocking over a display intentionally.

The bummer is I got a whiff of his breath because he was so close...also got a hint of cheap whisky. Just as I was getting ready to let the police know a drunk driver was getting on the highway (nice long stretch that runs through a small town that HATES drunk drivers) the clerk said 'don't bother'. It turns out he had them on the phone during the whole exchange and told them the guy was drunk and which way he was headed. I doubt he will get bailed out too quickly...maybe being confined with random strangers for a day will make him rethink his position.

Very good analogy. It's amazing how still there are people don't getting it. It's for those people that the mandatory of wearing mask in public must be along with a quite high fine amount for those not wearing one, so they finally can understand it.

Alcohol weakens the immune system.

I haven't drank alcohol for six years. Not one drink. I feel vibrant, look healthier and younger, more so than I did ten years ago and my mind and body are thanking me.

Agree on this. Alcohol weakens the immune system and the rest of your body, like liver and kidney.
And congrats for not having drank alcohol for six years!

But the drunk driver analogy totally works here, as you are wearing a face mask to keep safe and don't kill people around you, same as a drunk driver, that will kill not only himself, but a good family going with their car the same time and place as the drunk driver.

So, please people, think also in your neighbours and in the other good people around you, don't drive drunk, and wear a face mask when in public with other people. You can save a lot of lives by doing this. Thanks!
