To Mask or not To Mask... is there even a question?

Do you wear a mask in public?

Hello Mods and Mems,

Well here we have it. Mandatory mask wearing in public.
Now most of you that know me understand that I am not the kind of guy that welcomes new laws...
infringement on personal freedom... that kind of stuff.
However, their are some laws that have been passed in my lifetime I believe are just plain common sense.

Car seats for kids.
Seat belts.
No riding in the back of pickup trucks.
No smoking in public places.
Stuff like this saves lives.

Wearing a mask in public is not so much for your own protection, but for the protection of those around you.
This is not my opinion. According to the medical professionals, this is a fact.

Lets hear from you.
Without turning this into a political pissing match, those of you who believe against wearing masks in public, please justify your position.

Please keep it civil... no personal attacks.

Thank you.

Peace,
Kenny

Donald said he would wear a mask if he looked like the Lone Ranger, only one problem with that.

I can't believe people associate wearing masks with losing their freedom or rights.

There many sides to look at when talking about masks though. I see the importance of them, but I also see how they can be bad for you.

The importance of wearing a mask depends where you are in the world, what you're doing and your own situation. Some places where covid is to the extreme, I'd probably wear a mask as often as I could while in public, but I'd be super careful with it.

A lot of people don't understand masks. People just don't know how to wear them. I see people adjusting them as they slide around their face. Touching your face is a big no-no. I wouldn't be surprised if people are more likely to catch covid by wearing a mask. Simply because they are touching their face more often. Without a mask, they probably wouldn't touch their face at all... well, they probably would. I mean, who can't put their phone down for 5 minutes? Seriously though. If I go down to the grocery store without a mask, I won't touch my face once. But, if I wear a mask, there is a high chance it will make me touch my face, either to adjust the mask or to scratch an itch.

Masks are probably best for people are who sick, helping prevent the spread from sneezing or coughing. So the idea isn't really about wearing a mask to avoid covid. They are for those who are sick, have symptoms or were possibly exposed to covid. They should wear a mask to avoid spreading to others.

Some people think if you wear a mask, you're 100% safe. A mask gives you a false sense of security. Your eyes and ears can expose you to covid as well. You could sit down on a bench and your pants could take covid home with you. Your grocery bag could pick it up. It could be on your shoes and you walk around your house with it. It could get on your pet and spread it around your home. So many things can happen.

Most masks don't even protect you from covid. If it lands on your mask, chances are, you'll still get it. I mean, you have to touch your mask sometime - even just to remove it. A lot of people reuse masks too, so they take them off and they probably put them in their pocket, bag or purse. It will then spread to things you touch frequently and you're doomed. Some people might even put their mask in with their laundry! Which can infect their clothing.

Ok, that's enough! Before I ramble on anymore.... :xf.grin:

I live in Thailand, we locked down in March. Closed the borders. Masks were, and still are compulsory in many places along with lots of sanitiser, social distancing etc.

Many businesses reopened at the end of May.The big danger areas of pubs and clubs have just opened but with precautions in place.Kids went back to school last week ,again with precautions. Public assembly, ralies etc still basically banned. Basically a military govt here so compliance with regulations was pretty much 100%.
I wore a mask this morning in the shop to buy milk.

Thailand with a population of 70 million has had less than 3,000 infections and under 60 deaths.

Congratulations to your Government, because your country is exactly an example of how to proceed, and it clearly worked 100%.

1. Block borders and lock down at the very first. Yes it can hurt tourism, but it will save a lot of lives and it will be good for the rest of the country, life and industry.
2. Compulsory to wear face masks, along with sanitizer and social distancing.
3. Keep doing it until the vaccine is ready.

As you said, Thailand with a population of 70 million has had less than 3,000 infections and under 60 deaths.

Clearly Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan... knew how to proceed from the very first second in order to stop the virus spread. No playing, no delaying, closing borders, mandatory face masks and social distancing from the very first second, that's it.

Totally on the contrary. Is just precisely because wearing a face mask, you are not going to touch your mouth and nose directly with your hands.
If you don't wear it, you can bet you will touch it, minimum 10 times when going to the grocery.
Masks are probably best for people are who sick, helping prevent the spread from sneezing or coughing. So the idea isn't really about wearing a mask to avoid covid. They are for those who are sick, have symptoms or were possibly exposed to covid. They should wear a mask to avoid spreading to others.
And is precisely because NOBODY knows if they are infected or not, why EVERYBODY must wear a face mask.
80% of infected people are asymptomatic, they don't have any symptoms of the disease, but they can fully spread the virus.

So, precisely because the most of the people don't know if they are infected or not, EVERYBODY must wear a face mask to not infect the rest of the people around them.
Most masks don't even protect you from covid.
What most masks do, is protecting others from you. You wear a mask to protect the people around you, so they don't get infected.
So if everybody around you wear a face mask, you will be protected. That's the point.

That mask will protect everybody around you, from your breath, air droplets, coughs and sneezes. That mask will protect everybody around you from getting infected, that's the point.

it won't protect them.... try spray painting with one of those masks on and tell me if you:

#1 cannot smell paint
#2 do not get paint inside the mask from breathing

You still don't get the point.

Using your example:
1. Spray using a mask covering the spray valve.
2. Spray without a mask covering the spray valve.

Then tell me, how far goes the spray stream, with a mask covering the spray valve, and without a mask.

You obviously don't understand what I'm saying. I'm not talking about directly spraying the mask.. you can spray away from the mask and the spray paint will still get inside the mask... you're talking about directly spraying the masks themselves, and when you do that, you are making the point that masks don't work.

Let me spray you in the face with a mask on, and tell me if it helps you not smell like paint all day long.

Man, I can't do nothing, if you really don't get it.
The point is to block your breath, your cough and your sneeze to go out freely from your mouth, and infect the rest of the people.
I think it's not so hard to undersand.

I mean masks obviously only do so much, at first here it only seemed to affect anti-Trump supporters and still does too.... spray paint something with a mask on and tell me if you don't smell paint, or even if you don't get paint inside the mask when you breath... it's impossible unless you have no sense of smell and you tape all around your face.

The masks HELP if used correctly in certain situations, but the bottom line is this.... masks that do block out this type of disease (as it's labeled) are few and far between. These would be found usually with government officials only and would have 30-day expiration dates, yet I see people wearing the same dirty mask, not because it's a health practice but because it's a scare tactic and requirement in some places and no one wants to keep paying $7 for a new mask that before all this happened were around $0.09 - $0.33 each.

When this all started (in October) it was ignored and even covered up when it was being exposed. Then the US was slow to do anything really, and when South Carolina told their people to use common sense to beat the virus, I knew it was all a bit much.

We went from alcohol kills it and 80 degree weather kills it, to now it's summertime with nothing to do but drink, and somehow people are still getting sick. Somehow rioters and looters aren't spreading it, but anyone else who so much as sneezes in public is labeled as a terrorist.

Bill Gates after his Chinese nuclear failure, now is all the sudden throwing money at vaccinations while talking about blocking out the sun... that's a lot of money to be throwing around when really pedophilia being exposed was the bigger story to throw money at.

ID2020 is linked to Gates wrongfully as some claim while the organization itself in 2019, started a new digital identity program in collaboration with the government of Bangladesh and a vaccine alliance. The Rockefeller Foundation provided ID2020 with seed funding in 2017 and has been an ongoing supporter of ID2020's work. (while no one wants to be chipped and vaccines are proven to be detrimental....even flu deaths tout a number that includes flu vaccine deaths to scare people into taking a flu vaccine.)

Timeline of events.......

2017 - seed funding started for ID2020

2018 - "Bill Gates calls on U.S. to lead fight against a pandemic that could kill 33 million"
washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2018/04/27/bill-gates-calls-on-u-s-to-lead-fight-against-a-pandemic-that-could-kill-millions/

August 2019 - Epstein didn't kill himself (and is probably alive on a military base somewhere as he did have some of highest US government clearance)

Sep 2019 - Gates backs blocking out sunlight

Oct 2019 - Bill Gates-backed pandemic simulation in October and also Coronavirus hits China

November 2019 - Gates China nuclear deal goes bad

January 2020 - While Jan. 20th was said to be the first US case of coronavirus, the CDC the next day claimed they had been preparing. The virus also is extensively referred to as "2019 coronavirus" despite the very slow scare which didn't come here until the ending of February 2020.
cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/p0121-novel-coronavirus-travel-case.html

February 2020 - very little hype finally starts about something so serious and dangerous

March 2020 - virus directly started to widely affect police, military, EMT, judges, prosecutors, jailers, and people who were anti-Trump (it was obvious it was US military that did this) while Bill Gates goes against the US Presidents plans
news.theceomagazine.com/politics/coronavirus-bill-gates/ (article title since changed)

April 2020 - people are being pushed to wear masks and support first responders, while Bill Gates is spending 'billions' to ‘save months’ on a coronavirus vaccine ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/bill-gates-coronavirus-vaccine-152251369.html

May 2020 - first responders start attacking and murdering people even who support them

June 2020 - Restaurants start opening up for dine-in despite the growing number of virus tests that are positive, while Black Lives Matter fundraising handled by group with convicted terrorist on its board. Also dirt blows from the Sahara in Africa while people are made to believe a 6-feet distance can help stop a virus.
washingtonexaminer.com/news/black-lives-matter-fundraising-handled-by-group-with-convicted-terrorist-on-its-board

AND ALSO people who know Bill Gates start dying by suiciding themselves...

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/23/us/three-family-members-found-dead-in-nj-pool-trnd/

July 2020 - Football games are suspended for the year here, but you can still eat inside a restaurant, and can even bust explosives all over while the wind pushes all the contaminants all over the neighborhoods, but god forbid you do it without wearing a mask because then you're putting others in danger........

It's amazing how people will just spew out support one way or the other without actually basing anything off of actual science, but rather what someone else has told them.

I'd like to know how many anti-Trump people support masks, along with how many people have vested interests in masks who are also in support of masks being worn (mask domain names, stock to sale, etc)... it's sad that you even have to ask this but it's clear that some of the responses here come without any critical thinking or critical data, but rather more so personalized opinions.

So someone here is arguing with me that I can't spray through a mask going outward, but they refuse to even try to understand the concept of spray going into the mask....

It's one thing to argue with me that maybe the mirror is a reflection and is shown backwards, but when you come at me backwards then try to argue you're the mirror.. it just doesn't work that way... just like masks, they don't work that way.

They don't protect you from a virus. They (may) help some but to actually prevent and protect, no that's false... anyone claiming that would get visited by FDA and could get dragged through court even for making such statements that are totally false.

CDC Recommends Cloth Face Coverings for Use by the General Public

"The CDC recommends that members of the public use simple cloth face coverings when in a public setting to slow the spread of the virus, since this will help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others."

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices...-respirators-surgical-masks-and-face-masks#s2

Surgical Masks

"If worn properly, a surgical mask is meant to help block large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatter that may contain germs (viruses and bacteria), keeping it from reaching your mouth and nose. Surgical masks may also help reduce exposure of your saliva and respiratory secretions to others."

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION DATA SHOWS: ASYMPTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS VERY RARE

After all, even with the fudged death numbers, this is just a new strain of a coronavirus. Total Mortality statistics are not elevated.

Is that check or checkmate on your king mask wearers?

1- The average masks can't block the virus

2- Masks are effective in preventing the transmission of Covid 19

People are fighting over which one of the above statements is true, each side makes very convincing arguments to support their stance, but the logical conclusion that I arrive at tells me that both statements are true at the same time.

Well let me explain:

The average masks cannot block particles that are below a certain micron in size whether it's paint particles that have been atomized or whether it's Coronavirus which is microscopic in size these all can pass through the kind of masks that are available to the general public, even the N-95 masks which claim to be able to block 95% of these microscopic particles will still allow 5% of them to pass through (hence the name N-95) the only way to be 100% protected is to buy one of those masks that are used in biological labs.

But the average masks even the homemade cloth ones can and do block the Larger Droplets that come out of our mouths which might contain the virus. These droplets can easily get airborne when people are sneezing or even talking and can be inhaled by others if people are not wearing masks especially when people are in very close proximity of each other.

Keep in mind that if a mask is dense enough to block all the virus particles it might interfere with breathing, so it's best not to go to the extreme especially if a mask has to be worn all day, as long as everyone wears a mask that can block the Larger Droplets that are released in the air from our mouths while talking or sneezing then we all can help protect each other and take the load off of the many medical professionals and first responders who have to take care of us once we get sick.

So everyone should do their part in containing the virus by wearing a mask, washing hands, and obeying the physical distancing rules.

IMO

Be observant of those who wear masks. You will see them touching their face frequently, usually to adjust the mask because it moves. I see it all the time when I'm outside and I don't go out very often. I see people often taking their mask off to talk. Then they touch their face while putting it back on. When I go outside, I don't touch my face. Ever. I have disinfected wipes in my pockets so if I do touch anything like door handles or whatnot, I wipe my hands. When I get home, I immediately wash my hands. I then wash my keys or use wipes. I then wipe my door handle and anything I brought into the house. Maybe I'm over doing it, but it takes very little effort. While there is a tiny chance of getting covid where I am, there is still the regular flu.

Totally agree. From your article:

"That’s why masks are important, he said, especially when you can’t stand or sit at a distance from others."

“There is this period of time, you know, where even a professor of infectious diseases themselves wouldn’t know that I’m getting COVID,” Ryan said. “You’re not aware of your status.”

“It’s because the disease can spread at that moment that the disease is so contagious,” he said. “That’s why it has spread around the world in such an uncontained way.”

And I would add, that while the seasonal flu just has up to 3 days of incubation, the covid-19 has up to 14 days of incubation, 2 weeks of fully asymptomatic infected status but with a full spreading potential of the virus.

Add it to the fact that 80% of infected people will remain asymptomatic, and you have an spread machine ready to move, travel and infect faster than a jet.

And this, is why it is so important the use of a face mask, in order to stop this spreading machine that is covid-19, until there's an effective vaccine.

The data is there, the writing is on the walls for those with the eyes to see it. Like say....Sweden

Do you trust a US Senator who is a Family Physician or would you trust the mainstream media instead!? This doctor shares real data and facts....(and of course he is targeted because the truth out of the mouth of a senator doesn't match the puppet master divide and conquer fear mongering agenda)

(PS I agree the WHO isn't the most dependable source)
