Here's my question..what is the value of domain hack? I've seen some good domain hack and i was wondering about the value of it. I myself own one and i'm not sure whether or not i should get more. I haven't seen any sale of domain hack. Why do we register domain hack? Is it because the domain looks cool or because there's a potential end user who's willing to buy such domain?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Didn't come across it (altho funnily enough, going through the names that will be updated on the site tomorrow, now)

The main focus on Nami.ng are one-word English dictionary names (corporate URL shorteners and Personal names), so it wouldn't really match the criteria right now.

We are aiming not only to grow the awareness, but also to provide an outlet to help sell domain hacks, so watch this space :)

Glad to see you're promoting Domain Hacks to the public. I feel DH's will become a new hot trend as they are cleaver and pleasant to the eyes. After seeing a domain hack that I like, the first thing that comes to my mind is "Why didn't I think of that?"

I wish I had gotten some hacks when I few years ago. Oh well. Maybe I can find a cheap one or two. I know of one that's available to register. Just trying to decide if $35/yr is worth it. It's not a super premium, but it is a single word.

Well I have asked this in Beginners Domain Hack thread as well but would like to know the expert opinion of this thread participants. A I am new to this domaining and particularly domain hacks but have reggd few of them which I have shared at NPros already which are in .DE. Now for the following hacks I am considering them as :

Ostud.io
(Ssuitable for startup particularly in media industry, OnlineStudio, Just Single alphabet Studio etc )

Lastud.io (Los Angeles Studio or Last Studio etc)

Bestud.io (Best Studio or Be Studio etc)

Pocketstud.io (App, Smart Phone films or Media company etc)

I also found that the same key words and same name already exists in other TLDs.
Please guide me in fact direct me :) . Shall be grateful

You'd think Cryp․to domain hack was related to cryptocurrency, but it's actually a personal site by someone who was definitely ahead of time.

Check out this week's update of Nami.ng, which includes more gems like Cine․ma and Casi․no

$5k a year renewal is a lot. I wouldn't consider it unless it was going to be used for a personal business. I wouldn't register one just to add to my portfolio in hopes of selling it higher unless the domain was "D.NA"

It's ours ;)

By the way we've sold emo.to for $x,xxx via Dan.com.

Congratulations on that sale. (y)

The sales do come, just have to be patient like ALL domainers. Waiting for the $xx,xxx on our prized one. Waited 11 years and will wait another 11 if need be. LOL

You are right. That's what the dotcom boys did. Hopefully what we and Alex are working on will increase the value of domain hacks and you won't have to wait another decade.

Hacks are cool. A brands got to have guts to launch on one though. If it is a creative industry then it is easier.

Personally own just the one, which we acquired for high XXX for a few years back.

Some posts back there was discussion of the me.nu sale, and whether the price should have been higher.
Perhaps someone previously posted this and I missed it, but thought I would add the following sales stats, at least as reflected by sales on NameBio (obviously probably less than 20% of all retails sales):
  • 0 domain hack sales above $200,000
  • 3 domain hack sales above $100,000
  • 23 domain hack sales >= $20,000
  • 53 domain hack sales >=$10,000
The me.nu sale placed between the wall.et sale from last year and the wi.de sale this year, in the top 10 of all hack sales on NameBio.

Note the NameBio seem to define hack in the narrower way, a single word broken by the dot, and not the way some do that also include two word terms separated by the dot.

Here is the list of domain name hacks on NameBio.

@Bob Hawkes - I am one of those who think it sold 'under' its' potential.

Of course the problem being that all domains (cognitive, hacked, or otherwise) has the value decided when a seller and a buyer agree a price and NOT what the perceived value might be by others (i.e. me or others). I guess in this respect domaining is one of the last true bastions of free market economics. And just like economics there are a multitude or 'armchair experts' not involved in the negotiations who think they would have done 'better'. Perhaps, but the fact is the sale has been done and to hold out for a higher amount might have lost the buyer.

I doff my cap to the seller and buyer, both I am sure are happy with the deal, and that in the end is what matters. (y)

A dutch agency contacted us to acquire it for one of their clients. Not sure who the buyer is.

I agree that those domains were undersold. Supply vs demand and we all know that in domaining, the supply of each domain = 1. Every domain name is unique. It's not like bitcoins with a 21 million supply and the price was as high as $20,000 each.

Well done it, put up Fig.ht & JesusChri.st for offers.

I personally count Go.LA as a 'cognitive domain' or 'domain hack', and hopefully within the week that will be the only domain in our portfolio (one domain though doesn't quite seem to qualify as a 'portfolio' does it - LOL).

Strange, there has always been a certain pride in owning 'JesusChri.st', even though I am in no way religious. :xf.confused:

Wouldn't it be ironic if some political activist group got 'Fig.ht ', I mean it would definitely identify the multitude of different purposes it could be used for - they could change what they were fighting for weekly (as many of them seem to do). :xf.laugh:

If I send you a small list of domain hacks, would you consider having a look and think if any of them is worth brokering for you?
