To Mask or not To Mask... is there even a question?

Do you wear a mask in public?

Hello Mods and Mems,

Well here we have it. Mandatory mask wearing in public.
Now most of you that know me understand that I am not the kind of guy that welcomes new laws...
infringement on personal freedom... that kind of stuff.
However, their are some laws that have been passed in my lifetime I believe are just plain common sense.

Car seats for kids.
Seat belts.
No riding in the back of pickup trucks.
No smoking in public places.
Stuff like this saves lives.

Wearing a mask in public is not so much for your own protection, but for the protection of those around you.
This is not my opinion. According to the medical professionals, this is a fact.

Lets hear from you.
Without turning this into a political pissing match, those of you who believe against wearing masks in public, please justify your position.

Please keep it civil... no personal attacks.

Thank you.

Peace,
Kenny

For those that don't live in the U.S. - let me fill you in.

Our country is FILLED with selfish and entitled individuals.

My wife and I were talking before all of this even started in the U.S. about how there was no way that people here would do what they had to do in China/Italy to fix the problem.

Behold, we were right.

All we have to do to stop this spread is THREE things:
1) Social distance 6ft minimum when indoors.
2) Avoid continued contact while indoors (with people who don't follow these rules)
3) wear a N95 mask when in public (Good luck getting one)

Three little things... and we can't do it.

The shutdown does not need to happen, but what needs to stop is LUNACY like this:

I pretty much dont wear a mask, and I'm proud to see that in my city, there are more people not wearing masks than are.

Our idiot president has politicized 'being safe'. COVID doesn't care if you feel like a tough guy for not wearing a mask - it just wants in.

Herman Cain, who was at Trumps latest rally, now has COIVD. He was an avid supporter of the no mask wearing team - now look at him.

This isn't a psy op, a conspiracy theory, false flag, or any of the lunacy people devise.

This is a deadly disease which happens often over history - deal with it or die.

To be fair, this whole thing has been a learning experience for all. The initial thought was that most transmission happened via surface contact. It wasn't until later that the experts discovered how much it's being transmitted through airborne particles.
Disagree. Everybody with a minimum of science or medical knowledge (not to say a minimum of common sense) already knew that face masks work to stop the virus spread. This is not new. Why do you think nearly 100% of the population at Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, wear face masks? for fun? They know it works since year 2000 and their experience with SARS.

In fact, everybody knows face masks works since 100 years ago, when they were crucial stopping the 1918 flu virus spread.
But initially, when covid pandemy begun, there were not enough face masks for everybody, so they priorized the mask stock for medical people, and they said they didn't work for the rest. Mistake. It would have been better just to say the truth from the begining. Face masks work, what happens is that we don't have enough masks for everybody now, just that.

I wear a mask in public out of common sense not fear. There were idiots marching in Florida for the right not to wear a mask. I saw a tweet that compared that to being about the same as people marching for the “right” to drive drunk. I agree.

I absolutely hate wearing a mask in public although, I've been told I have a face made to be masked!

Yet, I wear a mask 100 % of the time when in any and all public environments.

And I have been wearing a mask in public since early March at the latest.

We go out of our way to avoid folks and potential problems by shopping online for everything conceivable, including my new computer and two new Smart TVs.

When we go out and grocery shop etc we are masked and wearing nitrile gloves. And I wear wrap around sunglasses and a ball cap, and never in my life have I previously worn a ball cap into a store.

When out, we each wear 1 mask per store, 1 set of gloves per store and toss same immediately when back at car and use hand sanitizer to wipe down hands and then onto the next store and repeat.

I am considered " high risk " and don't want a fellow shopper's illness, Covid or other-wise " illing or killing"
me via their unmasked sneeze, cough, loud talk, etc.

And in turn I do not wish to gift strangers with any air-born ailments I may potentially harbor and spew out.

We prefer and try to only use businesses that have mandatory employee masking.

Wearing a mask in public is the very least I can do to help minimize the spread of the C-V-D.

Along with, of course, social distancing and keeping hands clean.

So we are all inconvenienced for a few more months by mask-wearing, so what.

Previous Generations.........

When I think of what every previous generation especially the Greatest Generation " gave up and sacrificed " for their country why the hell is wearing a face mask in public too much of an inconvenience or sacrifice for people today to " endure ".

I hate the mask but wear the mask.

Canada barely has people;

More people live California than all Canada.

NHL chose Canada their bubble; also low rates

prob why the NHL chose Canada their bubble
"Hey, Prime Minister, should we tell Canadians the truth about masks?"

PM - "Heck no! We don't even have as many people as California! Our people don't deserve the truth."

Yeah. That sounds right. :)

Same logic “more tests, more positive results!”

Less people, less rates. Country few people.
Grand country; reminds of Greenland :)
Also many favorite, finest NP from Canada.

I'm not sure what point you're making. I'm trying to understand if you and @Sutruk think the Canadian government concealed the truth about masks.

Less people = less positive results;

Has nothing to do with masks

(but i bet it helps) I think u cherry-picked CA.

You mean less total number of infections? That's a separate topic.

I was saying that the US and Canadian governments didn't know masks could be very effective back in March.

It's not about conceal the truth, it's more about prioritizing. Even Canada didn't have enough stock of face masks for every canadian, so they just wanted to keep the stock for medical people. Just that. And I understand it, but it was just not truth, they knew, everybody knew. At that point, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, China... everybody there was required to wear face masks. And you can bet that it was not for fun.

So you say our governments were deliberately misinforming the public about safety guidelines.

I just want to make sure I'm clear on your opinion here.

lol man... it was not just your government, it was the WHO who said it. Canada and everybody else of the occidental countries followed the instructions.
But again, I will tell you again... it was a question of PRIORITIZING.
Occidental countries were out of face mask stock, simply that. So in that case, medical people are the most important people to wear and use the face mask stock.
If all medical people fall sick, you can bet everybody in that country will be f*cked.

Alright.

You're certainly entitled to your interesting viewpoint.

I think I'll bow out of the discussion here. Seems to have gone off the rails a bit.

I do, pretty much just because most people here are wearing them and i don't want to make people feel uncomfortable around me. I don't like wearing one though, its 98 degrees here daily.

Why do you think nearly 100% of the population at Japan.

Japan didn't lockdown, Japan didn't social distance, Japan brought in masks way late into the charade and even with the fudged CV19 labels, Japan demonstrates a control to the experiment played in most of the world. And for those who have visited Japan, we all know how tight and cramped many areas of the country are.

And Japan has less than 1000 deaths with a CV19 label out of around 127 million people.

And let's all remember that the creator of the RT-PCR CV19 test, you know the Nobel Prize winner said from the beginning not to use it because it isn't reliable.

But facts don't matter when a lie is repeated enough, people will eventually believe it.

ΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦΦ

Hitler's Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, said,

“If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes accepted as truth.”

And it is fairly common knowledge, but just in case you didn't know - the Nazis didn't lose the war, they relocated to the Americas.

My friend lives in a country that is the epicenter of COVID in Eastern Europe, yet hardly anyone wears masks, they have large gatherings (up to 20,000+) and 80% of the capital is infected. I was shocked.

Japan didn't lockdown
True, and that was BECAUSE THEY STARTED WEARING FACE MASKS from the very first second from when they knew about the Wuhan virus.

Japan brought in masks way late into the charade
FALSE.

Japan were using face masks even before the covid pandemic. And EVERYBODY KNOWS IT. That's a CULTURE there.

And when the Wuhan pandemic started, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, everybody in those countires started wearing face masks FROM THE VERY FIRST SECOND THEY KNEW about the Wuhan virus.

Why? Because they already were awared about new virus coming from China. They had the experience of the SARS from year 2002.

I wear a mask for a few reasons -
1. To protect you and whoever you go home to.
2. To protect my family, of which some are in a high risk category.

I’m in the States and people are just dumb here. Some governors opened bars and restaurants only to have idiots flood them, as if COVID 19 was gone. Those same states are now closing up shop because of huge spikes in cases.

It’s very simple... wear masks, keep your distance, wash your hands.

My kids and I wore masks at the bicycle shop today. An older guy said to my kids, thank you. You wear that mask to protect people like me! He was thankful and exactly right!!!

Well here we have it. Mandatory mask wearing in public.

Forgive me for my ignorance but is it mandatory by law to wear a mask when you're out in the US now?

Over here it's only mandatory when you use public transport, or when you cannot keep a safe distance. At first basically because if everybody would start wearing them there wouldn't be enough left for the medics etc.

I must admit I never had the need to wear a mask during this pandemic and like to keep it that way for a little longer but I wouldn't object to it either. It's all about keeping yourself and your loved ones in special safe. Better to be safe than sorry. Wearing masks isn't the solution but it definitely is part of it, especially in crowded areas.
