Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

US buys up world stock of key Covid-19 drug remdesivir

The United States has purchased nearly the entire worldwide supply of remdesivir leaving none for most of the rest of the world.

The country has bought up the drug, proven effective for severely ill Covid-19 patients, for the next three months, reports The Guardian.

Experts and campaigners are alarmed both by the US unilateral action on remdesivir and the wider implications, for instance in the event of a vaccine becoming available.

Just 'pulled the plug' on a two week trip to Myrtle Beach...family and friends had gone in together and rented the top floor of a resort...got a super good deal...but now 20 (about half) of us have decided not to go. I think most, if not all, of the others will pull out as well with only a core of one group going (nephew the surgeon and niece the nurse are part of the group) as they need the break desperately. They know there will not be another chance for them to get away again anytime soon. Oh, the reason we all have decided not to go is their refusal to require masks locally or state wide...a friend lives there and is active in the gov and she says it comes up every day in a meeting and slowly, one by one, council members are wanting to add the mask ordinance. They vote again later today in Myrtle Beach on whether to have masks or not...I pray they do for the locals and the visitors coming this weekend.

It is happening all over the country. The answer is simple: those hosting/organizing the party should be locked up for 30 days immediately (let the legal case takes its own course with its own added penalties). It doesn't matter if you are 18 or 80, if you are having or participating in these 'parties' you should be fined and/or locked up.

Young people who get infected with Covid will likely not even get sick, and if they do get sick, they will survive, and when they recover they will have immunity and can work at jobs where they can have contact with people without the fear that they will infect anybody. This is what we should want, herd immunity.
Once enough young people have immunity it will be safer for the elderly, fat people, diabetics and those
with weak immune systems to come out of their homes. They can't stay in their homes forever. Masks prevent herd immunity. We are extending the lockdown by preventing young healthy people from getting Covid. It may be that all flu viruses are ended by the people getting herd immunity.

Wrong. France, Italy, Spain went the mask and lockdown route and it worked. Those that did not/have not are experienced surges and in the US we now have ONE FOURTH of the cases in the world.

We really don't know if it worked. Doctors are saying that Covad will return. Will they have another lockdown and wear masks again, and then again? Herd immunity may be the only real solution. And cases are not deaths. The death rate is going down because more young people are getting infected.

In the absence of an effective vaccine(s) there are usually one path a pathogen like this can take. One, which happens often, is that it will 'run its course' and die/fade out on its own. In our modern world this could take years to circle the globe to achieve this end.

But...big but...if it mutates, it could continue for many more years although it generally gets weaker with each mutation. We (humans) can speed up the process of letting it 'die out' by not providing hosts...isolation is how this happens. That is why hospitals have 'isolation' wards for containing whatever they are keeping from the rest of the patients.

Those in charge in the countries I listed above know/knew this and opted to take a financial hit up front while in America, Russia, etc., the decision was to take another course. The impact will be much worse for us in the end...unless, of course, someone is an executive or worker in any medical related field (or if someone owns stock in or owns that particular entity).

Having said all that, Americans are generally innovators and the financially strong and/or smart will survive and new services, products and industries will emerge....but it wont be easy and there will be quite a few deaths along the way.

Coronavirus: What does Covid-19 do to the brain?

Stroke, delirium, anxiety, confusion, fatigue - the list goes on. If you think Covid-19 is just a respiratory disease, think again.

As each week passes, it is becoming increasingly clear that coronavirus can trigger a huge range of neurological problems.

Several people who've contacted me after comparatively mild illness have spoken of the lingering cognitive impact of the disease - problems with their memory, tiredness, staying focused.

But it's at the more severe end that there is most concern.

Talked to my cousins in Germany earlier.

Have 1 cousin using a 3d-printer to make masks.

Another cousin told me when somebody tests positive, they find the people they were in contact with and those people go into a 2 week quarantine, and they have somebody do the grocery shopping, fill prescriptions for them etc. during that time.

They seem to be better organized on a National level to handle this. We're not. We have people filing lawsuits against wearing masks and doing other dumb things, like having who can catch the virus parties.

Treatment with Hydroxychloroquine Cut Death Rate Significantly in COVID-19 Patients, Henry Ford Health System Study Shows

DETROIT – Treatment with hydroxychloroquine cut the death rate significantly in sick patients hospitalized with COVID-19 – and without heart-related side-effects, according to a new study published by Henry Ford Health System.

In a large-scale retrospective analysis of 2,541 patients hospitalized between March 10 and May 2, 2020 across the system’s six hospitals, the study found 13% of those treated with hydroxychloroquine alone died compared to 26.4% not treated with hydroxychloroquine. None of the patients had documented serious heart abnormalities; however, patients were monitored for a heart condition routinely pointed to as a reason to avoid the drug as a treatment for COVID-19.

The study was published today in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, the peer-reviewed, open-access online publication of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID.org).

Patients treated with hydroxychloroquine at Henry Ford met specific protocol criteria as outlined by the hospital system’s Division of Infectious Diseases. The vast majority received the drug soon after admission;
82% within 24 hours and 91% within 48 hours of admission. All patients in the study were 18 or over with a median age of 64 years; 51% were men and 56% African American.

“The findings have been highly analyzed and peer-reviewed,” said Dr. Marcus Zervos, division head of Infectious Disease for Henry Ford Health System, who co-authored the study with Henry Ford epidemiologist Dr. Samia Arshad. “We attribute our findings that differ from other studies to early treatment, and part of a combination of interventions that were done in supportive care of patients, including careful cardiac monitoring. Our dosing also differed from other studies not showing a benefit of the drug. And other studies are either not peer reviewed, have limited numbers of patients, different patient populations or other differences from our patients.”

One wonders how many people died because they believed the politically motivated campaign against
hydroxychloroquine that the anti-Trump media like CNN and MSNBC broadcast daily using their whore doctors to validify.

It is not an overstatement to say the media is evil.

I've thought about doing this myself. Is your cousin making the masks for personal use or selling them commercially?

Seriously, Just Wear Your Mask

Seriously, just wear one. Almost any mask will do, really. N95, surgical, spandex, homespun cotton. For people who aren’t front-line health care workers, what matters is whatever you can get your hands on that fits over your nose and mouth.

As the nation plunges for a second time into the depths of this brutal pandemic, officials worry we’ll soon have as many as 100,000 new cases every day. Summer won’t save us. Neither will bluster or bleach.

It’s easy to want to give up, but it would be wrong. Wearing a mask is not only simple and cheap, it’s also proved to be effective in slowing the virus’s spread. It will protect the health and even save the lives of your loved ones, your neighbors and people you don’t know.

One wonders how many people have died because of people still believing that masks doesn't work.
Because this ignorant people, the ones who doesn't wear a mask, not only put themselves in danger, but also the lifes of innocent and good people around them.

That's the true of all this mess, the big ignorance of some people nowadays.

I've been tracking the spread of the virus in my county since the pandemic began. In the early days it would go up by maybe 15 to 25 cases a day. Once the lockdown ended the incidence rose to 40 to 60 per day. Yesterday it was 175.

This is truly alarming, and I'm guessing we'll be going back to a partial lockdown soon. A guy in my office who lives in some imaginary retro world doesn't use hand sanitizer because he believes it's "unmanly". This is someone who lives in a household with two high-risk people. I wonder if he thinks it's manly to infect others with a deadly virus.

Coronavirus is airborne say 239 scientists in a letter to WHO

In an open letter to the World Health Organisation, 239 scientists from 32 countries have outlined evidence that coronavirus is airborne.

The scientists plan to publish their letter in a scientific journal in the coming months but extracts have already leaked to the New York Times and other media outlets.

The WHO has said that coronavirus is spread through respiratory droplets, expelled when infected people sneeze or exhale.

In their letter, the scientists outlined evidence that even smaller particles are infecting people.

The scientists say they think the virus can linger in the air for long periods and float for several metres, infecting anyone nearby.

In their letter, the scientists outlined evidence that even smaller particles are infecting people.

The scientists say they think the virus can linger in the air for long periods and float for several metres, infecting anyone nearby.

There have been already a few reported situations of mass spreading through the air indoors, like an infected man dining at a restaurant, and infecting 10 people around the local, from end to end, not just those sitting near him.
Same situation at a bus, where just one person infected 9 people from end to end.
On these situations, there were a recycling air conditioning circulation (not coming from outside, but recycling the inside air), where the airborne virus circulated from end to end in the dining room or the bus, infecting half of the people there, not just the ones sitting near the infected person.

These cases, explained and linked on the two following posts, have been reported on April 20th and March 10th. From those dates we have evidence of the airborne virus transmission.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/20/health/airflow-coronavirus-restaurants.html

In January, at a restaurant in Guangzhou, China, one diner infected with the novel coronavirus but not yet feeling sick appeared to have spread the disease to nine other people. One of the restaurant’s air-conditioners apparently blew the virus particles around the dining room.

“We conclude that in this outbreak, droplet transmission was prompted by air-conditioned ventilation,” the authors wrote. “The key factor for infection was the direction of the airflow.”
