I wrote an article about First Name Last Name Domain Names on the blog, you can read the full article by clicking here, but let's discuss over here at NamePros.

Do you register the First Name, Last Name Domains?

Whats the Sales / Drop like?

Are you only registering Dot Com?

Do you do research before you acquire i.e. Look at who owned it, how many years was it owned etc?

What's the sweet spot for sale? is it a quick flip at $99, $250, $500 or $1K+ etc.

Let's discuss...

Wasnt going let full name away. Dam right i reg'd it, It's one of those investments you know you'll never sell... but help long-run avoid litigation, hostage negotiation buyback off had the intuition to reg'd before you. These should be avail to hand-reg; dont be that cheap.

Nice names. Link to their twitter please?

I sold a name+surname domain for $1999 last year & have sold others for low to mid xxx.

Haven't had luck selling a first name .co yet. Well I've been lazy with outbounding. I have a few like Khabib.co, Mahmoud.co, Reynold.co which I tried outbounding to some rich people on LinkedIn.

One of them, a high profile Fintech investor from Abu Dhabi replied saying he wasn't interested, although I stalked him & found out he was trying to start a personal website & the first name word .co would have been perfect :xf.cry:

I wouldn't advise to squat on someone else's name as only reserving it for them. Will you try fight or ignore anything but offers? What ever is cheaper to get it eg same country law or low ball. I have found some single names when actually looked first and surnames have a female name domain and a surname domain.

First Name Last Name domains tend to look like cybersquatting in ways that single names don't.

Consider JuliaRoberts.com Vs Julia.com or Roberts.com. Two look good. One doesn't (UDRP wise).

Some sellers pull off selling First Name Last Name domains, but I will generally advice against it.

here's a hint.

price point here.

Say you are bit time name like a celebrity or even maybe a CEO? but either your name is so generic and so many people have your first name or even last name like John or Smith.

This is where a domainer can make money.

Many of these people will want a .com no a .co or whatever

.com is where it's at.

No expert here but I feel any domain that ends in ........................

360.com
TV.com
24.com
247.com
365.com
VR.com
app.com
s.com
co.com
1.com
123.com
inc.com
company.com
sucks.com

and also domains that start with............

the

24
247
360
365
TV
VR
iam
im

would have some value in this "space" where someone needs a .com with their name but can't afford it or is just overly price borderline ridiculous.

and they are not familiar with .co or .tv or don't like .net or .org and simply want THE BEST.

I think it depends on the popularity of the name & if any public figures bear it. Popular names like JohnSmith.com etc have possibly millions of end users although only one of them can own it and the rest would have to append something if they want to use their name in their business e.g JohnSmith[insert job role].com. Unlike business names which generally get trademarked, I personally see nothing wrong with first+last name domains as trademarking a legal name which anyone can have is silly.

And cyber squatting is generally regarding business names and trademarks. I wouldn’t consider it malicious cyber squatting. It’s just being the supplier for the demand, just like the registrars are although they may charge low registration fees compared to our resale price.

I agree when they are popular names like JohnSmith or names like Jane Doe.

Other names outside of those feel like they are targeting one or two people

so what's the threshold for cybersquatting
1 - 2 people - bad

2 - 4 people - still bad?

10 - 100 really nice?

I own several 1-2 word person names and sold a few to date. Overall, I saw male names do sell well compare to female.

I own my first name in .com and use it primarily for email [email protected] but will have a website there soon.

But I guess that is not what was asked. I do have first name domains and last name domains, but primarily because they make great brands, imo, like Dell, Bloomberg etc. Often, good brandables turn out to be also names somewhere in the world, because the names are forms of brands too, just personal...

I don't register random First Name/Last Name .coms for resale, no.

I won my own name in .COM, my first name in .ME, and I have a few first name .COs:

Luisa /co
Javier /co
Lupe /co
Katrin /co

I sold Anna (.) co and Carly (.) co.

I feel like First Name/Last Name .coms are a bit of a shot in the dark, and I'd feel kind of uncomfortable owning someone's name, rather than keywords.

What were the sale prices on Anna (.) co and Carly (.) co. if you can share, were these inbound or outbound sales?

All of my sales are inbound. Anna was a few years ago, listed at $10k BIN at Sedo, and Carly sold for $1500 last year through GoDaddy's Domain offer/broker service.

I undersold Carly bigtime, and should have countered with a higher figure, but it's ok, and it wasn't a name I was attached to.
