I never play names in a language I don't speak... well.
Online translators do not always get it right.
I'm sure you have seen a few that were Chinese to English that get hard to understand.

I can't say if it would bring you any value because it is limited to a german speaking market who might use the term if it is correct.
But I would bet that HOLOGRAFISCH.DE would be a better bet. But you never know.
Back to... I don't play names in a language I don't speak... well !

Hello @VRdommy ..you are right but HOLOGRAFISCH.DE already resisted so I think the person who will take ".de" domain...definitely he would interested to acquire ".com"

Well, if that is a target, Nothing ventured, nothing gained. But don't forget a competing entity.
But you will have to look where they speak the language.
I could not get the .DE to resolve so I'm guessing it is still in the hands of a investor.
Perhaps in a few years when AR gets it's foot in the door, you will see movement.

Well, just got a email
APPLE WWDC is on for June 22... All online

Part of the agenda is presenting new capabilities for developers.
So we could get a clue on the Apple VR/MR device.
If there is a open link to watch it, I'll keep you posted. If you see it please post it here.
I would imagine regular news will pin this faster than I can post it here if anything great is announced..

4th annual VR awards

...LOL... I did not know about the first 3. I might remember the first one.
https://www.roadtovr.com/fourth-vr-awards-vrchat-2020/

There are 2 stories here.
The 1st is the awards. The second is the platform they use for it. VRCHAT.
In the beginning of this VR resurgence, outside of trying to get the pinnacle hardware names, and those were limited and mostly taken. But I did achieve one that I followed for 5 years (not often enough) and suddenly it was available for a hand reg in 2011. Persistence pays.

You quickly say what will you do with this VR stuff ?
CHAT and Chatrooms was on the top of my list, along with most anything/word that denotes where people would congregate, like ROOM.
I have about 5 killers in this area, but there is time to think about it if you want to enter the space. But not much time.
While you may not hand reg many if any, there is a desperation in the aftermarket if you act and take advantage of it while the iron is still a bit cool.
Why am I bringing this up now ? That news reminded me... Been seeing a lot lately because of covid.

Looking out for the next 5 years, VR & VR/MR is it. While AR is coming, the hardware we all envision as great AR has a hefty price tag for that kind of display tech. Outside of consumer reach. Even though we will see AR devices in the coming few years, not ones that sport that which we wish it would be or dream about.
So, the time to play VR is now for investor buyers. IMHO... Just a heads up, I think this space may be first for high demand in names. Next year we will see 3rd gen of VR hardware. That is where it gets really good.

The format for most of mine is:
VR + (thing to do) + (place to do it)

ie VRPokerRooms VRSportsArena

Well, I am not motivated to sell any of my names. I feel I have good ones and will wait till the end user price is right and that is likely when this has been well populated. But as I say, others are looking for a short term ROI so it's your game to play for a short time.

This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds... good luck

I can say that VR technology has already made major strides in the sports industry. Baseball, in particular, has been using VR technology for pitchers to simulate strike zones and help improve control and accuracy. Not too long before it sweeps the entire industry. In our niche, having sports domains with vr attached to the name is very valuable. For example, we own vrmma.com.

Facebook Enhances Oculus Business VR Capabilities
https://www.uctoday.com/collaboration/facebook-enhances-oculus-business-vr-capabilities/

One can see that Biz is looking to VR for solutions from pandemic and only a few can fill that void.
Probably nothing new in this, just a acceleration of existing work.

I'm ok with whatever moves that needle forward. But hate to see it go to only the big dogs that have kept this a big player only game. It's bad for names

‘Star Wars: Squadrons’ Will Have VR Support On Both PC And PS4
https://www.forbes.com/sites/joepar...rons-will-have-vr-support-on-both-pc-and-ps4/

If a Star Wars VR game can't make traction, we are doomed.
But likely a hit this xmas season. I have one concern that we may have data on soon enough...
HMD sales for the 1st half of the year.
I know that they pretty much have caught up with demand and covid now so the numbers might look a bit off as we know it. So we will have to keep it in context.

A side note...
VR vacations provide comfort from being stuck at home: 'The first time I tried it I saw a city in Spain'
https://www.cnet.com/news/vr-vacati...-first-time-i-tried-it-i-saw-a-city-in-spain/

We need more content for this to work. Chicken or the egg ?

HolodeckVacations ...LOL...

This has already happened last week!

This is a huge step towards integration, a new milestone in the industry:

HTC's Vive XR Suite lets people work together even if they're not all in VR

"Today’s announcement is all about Vive XR Suite, which is an upcoming subscription package consisting of five VR applications that cater to various work and social needs. Think of it as the Microsoft Office for VR.

More importantly, these apps won’t be limited to PC VR systems nor standalone VR headsets of any brand (including Oculus, Valve and Windows MR), as they can also be viewed on a PC monitor and even a modern smartphone, meaning you can still somewhat interact in the virtual worlds if you left your goggles behind."

There's a post by Palmer Luckey somewhere that even if we drive down the price of vr headsets to 0 still it won't make it mainstream.. implying that content and the quality of experience are the main barriers today.. that's what has reflected in the above decision imo..

First of all, that article is almost two years old and secondary, Palmer Luckey is a very practical person/inventor/businessman as we can see in this 2019. máj. 22. interview:

This is why we have to read the mentioned blogpost with great caution, but ok let's do it!

30, October 2018 - The blogpost from Palmer Luckey:
http://palmerluckey.com/free-isnt-cheap-enough/

31, October 2018 - A good extract from Matthew Handrahan, editor-in-chief - gamesindustry :
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...ardware-is-good-enough-to-go-truly-mainstream

"Luckey clarified that he remains a "True Believer" that VR will become staple technology in the future, but he also set the "hypothetical ultimate ceiling" for the VR market over the next two years at 50 million active users."

26th October 2018 - additional article from Rob Fahey, contributing editor - gamesindustry:
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-10-26-has-the-vr-boom-hit-a-wall

"Until we can get to the point where VR headsets are less like cumbersome helmets and more like sleek goggles - a casual ski mask rather than something that looks (and feels) like a bulky medical device on your face - I'm not sure consumers are ever going to get past that. With our existing technology, that isn't possible. It will be some day; perhaps that's only a few years down the line (waveguide technology is fascinating but still very early, for example) or perhaps it's another decade off, and by the time VR hype builds again the late-2010s VR boom will be remembered much as we recalled the Virtual Boy when Oculus first broke into the market.

When we do get there, however, whenever that may be, the knowledge and understanding gained from the recent VR boom is going to be invaluable to making the experiences that really sell a platform that's finally reached the right stage of maturity for the mass market."

You have to understand Palmer Luckey's viewpoint in 2018.

He wrote about mainstream usage.

Mainstream usage definition should be the date when VR will be as popular, as the smartphones nowadays.

Palmer Luckey prediction in OCTOBER 30, for the end of 2020:

"If I had to make a concrete bet, I would put a hypothetical ultimate ceiling for VR in the next two years at perhaps 50 million active users"

Back to domaining!
We have stats and Forecasts:

statsia_stats.png

https://www.statista.com/statistics...tual-and-augmented-reality-headset-shipments/

If the numbers are correct, in 2023 the predictable VR/AR/MR/XR/Holo unit shipments will be more then 68 million.

Not a bad number, especially we have to add the previous shipped units (in all years) to this.

The statista research department's prediction for 2023 is more than 160 million existing VR/AR/MR/XR/Holo devices.

Will that be enough?

Mainstream definition:

"The ideas, attitudes, or activities that are shared by most people and regarded as normal or conventional. "

To complete the expectations of mainstream definition, on the planet (not only the US) should be more than 1 billion VR/AR/MR/XR/Holo devices in households and in everyday use.

When will this happen?

Nobody can say exactly, but as a smart domainer you can analyze the VR/AR/MR/XR/Holo industry stats, trends and you can place your bets!

I wish you success!

I don't understand why everyone sets 'undefined' targets like the term 'mainstream'.
So when anyone uses it, ask them to define 'mainstream'. So you know what they are really talking about.

I would agree that there is a shortage of 'compelling content'.
I define 'compelling' as something so useful or just damn cool you 'want it'. Even if you do not 'need it'.

We all know things that it is capable of, but so far we really have seen little more than a uncompelling or only lightly compelling proof of concept. Think vr chat rooms.

Let me give you a example...
We know about gaming so I will not go there. That is where the current demand is.
But if 'mainstream' means anybody would want it...my example...

Let's take virtual touring... from vacation promotion to seeing sights you might not ever see in you life in person. So we have 'some' content, but it is very limited. If you don't like one of the dozen or two places they have content for. There can't be much to compel you for the want. They (VR) are as nearly expensive as a cruise ship tour to go all in.
One more...
We all know the potential for sporting events live in real time.
We have only seen a few limited examples. There are plenty of folks that would 'buy-in' at prices higher than most would pay in person. It's just not there for various reasons. There are a lot of tech issues with some content that makes it cost prohibitive. And again, of the few who have a HMD, how many will pay a premium to watch sports this way. It would be compelling if it were delivered in the way we all envision it. but where is it ?

While you might think that folks like Oculus have bettered the industry by buying content makers... it's not so.
They end up making content for only 'their product' to give them some kind of edge in standards creation and choice when selecting a HMD. And as I have stated for over 5 years, standards creation will change a lot. We need it NOW. So dev's don't have the need to create a new program for each HMD. Everyone wins except for those that loose (LOL) and the chance of loosing is why nobody really pushes that button.

You have the classic chicken or the egg
Not worth many dev's and content creators to make content when there are so few to sell it to.
We do not have enough competition in the hardware market as well, and no standards.
I did not really think we were going to have standards till after the 3rd gen of HMD's when it will be clear it is beneficial.

But I think it's magic breakout point is within hand as we see HMD sales, currently hampered by production problems caused by the pandemic starting to flourish and the latest sets of numbers will be encouraging to dev's since they have a nicely increasing audience to sell to.

Now is that a mainstream moment... probably not. It may be the start of more content creators and that is the key to achieving some compelling content in wider variety.

This may be encouraging.
But I always take these reports with a grain of salt as the often to not consider everything that would add to the plus side and do not include tech/cost issues that hold back segments because a lot of the data is polled from co's in what they think they are going to accomplish and some is wishful thinking.

One more VR acquisition...

Facebook acquires VR studio behind ‘Lone Echo’

edit:
BTW...
In my post 2 back, I might mention my definition of 'mainstream'

When the average non tech weener can find more than one use for a VR HMD, that is compelling enough for a 'buy-in' and that my friends is mainstream.
Think smartphone. You might notice we lack content for that.
