Hi,

I want some advice.

I have had a inquire via Godaddy message sent to me, from a Broker (work as a broker of International clients in Japanese hosting company - Heteml Inc. (part of GMO Clod) wants to buy one of my domains for xx.xxx for her client.

but she says her client needs a certificate, reason

"
This is the requirement of the buyer's bank. Without this document there is no guarantee it can be legally used in the buyer's country. There is no problem to buy. But if your domain has legal restrictions or TM conflicts for the buyer's country my client will loose money and domain.

"
https://merchant.authorize-international.net/start.html

Has anyone heard of this before certificate before?
Has anyone heard of or used merchant.authorize-international.net/start.html ?

The Certificate is $299 in ETH.

Also has anyone heard of brokers working at Heteml Inc. (part of GMO Clod?

Thank you,

This question comes up several times a week. Why don't new members just do a quick search before starting a new thread?

This is attractive stuff and also common question from new name investors. We have to know that domain name appraisals is a business, and unfortunately some people don't always care about its legitimacy & rightness. They usually play with numbers in order to make it exciting and attractive for newbies, to make them spend more money afterward.

Most of the domain certification services are money pits, meaning you spend money for nothing. It doesn't guarantees or certified anything. These are not legal documents. Appraisals coming out of it don't have any real value except the amount you paid for it. One thing I noticed back then, when I started, was all the scams around these phony buyers asking for certificates. I learned that most of these buyers were the owners of these domain "appraisal services". Once you have paid for a certificate, the buyer then back off on the sale. You lose a sale and money.

So what now! Let's make it clear & easy to understand.
What we have on the table at this time :
  • A domain name
  • A seller
  • A buyer with big wallet
  • A broker
  • A bank
Every big & deep pockets are surrounded with qualified people for legal things. They will never ask for a cheap certificate to confirm a domain name value.

What you need in this case is either :
  • A lawyer
  • An escrow service
  • A well-know independant broker
  • A known third party, offering all the transactional service like SEDO, Dan, Epik, etc...
This kind of thing happened for sure to much people here on Namepros. Namepros is a good place to learn, and have a third look on the market.

Thank you for your reply!

I agree with you, and yes Namepros is best place to learn and take advice and learn from other experienced domain investors.

but phishing email i received showed its from Godaddy, but on the reply all it had the Japanese email address.

The worrying things was, the email, has my Godaddy customer number, my real name and my email address i ONLY use at godaddy. I have never use of advertised that email and customer number.

I have reported it to Godaddy, but they give me the usually, report it to abuse email and we'll get back to you.
